I think it is obviously that Obama and his pose do not want a debt deal and they want default. They will blame the entire thing on the the Republians and especially the tea party and then the thing they want most, chaos!

One house of congress is trying to pass a bill right now.
Both houses need to pass any bill for it go to the president to be signed into law by him, or vetoed and not signed, but that is another story.

Once a bill is passed by either branch of congress, "the House of representatives" or "the senate" then it goes to other one to get voted on. If there are changes made it goes back and forth until it passed by both the senate and the house clean with no more changes...or doesn't pass, then it's dead.

What you saw here was a vote to "End debate" then there would have been a vote to pass or fail, then this bill would have went to the house of representatives for their vote.

They didn't get enough votes to "end debate" so the bill essentially sits there and they try and make deals and changes until they think they can get enough votes to say "it's done, now we vote"...or if they can't get enough votes and cant make deals?...the bill just sits there and is dead.

Just to recap for those coming in late: The Senate defeated a Reid's proposal to raise the debt ceiling by a vote of 50 to 49. It needed 60 votes to advance.

In other words, they had to make Harry feel like he was a real man if only for a minute.

Elements of his sucky plan will likely be kept in the bipartisan deal which could be completed this afternoon.

Supposedly, they are poised to jump on this once this "deal" is reached.

Because some of us believe that the only way to put an end to this long day's journey into night that began in the Summer of 2007 is to just plain default.
It's like the rotten tooth...just pull the mother and go from there.

You have to remember...most people are NOT like us on GLP..they are not as informed...How many people do we ALL know that are "old school" and have a trust in the Office of the President of the United States because it's what they have been brought up to know for 50-60-70 years?...there are a lot...and many of them ARE afraid...

Any deal to raise the debt limit by August 2nd will now require "unanimous consent" in the Senate. Senate rules allow members unlimited debate time, barring an agreement to contrary or a "cloture" vote to end debate.

A cloture vote requires not just 60 votes, but also a one-day "ripening" period, and still allows for 30 hours of debate after the vote. If one Senator unhappy with the plan currently being negotiated by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and President Barack Obama objected to ending debate, a final vote would not be held until Wednesday — assuming cloture is filed by 11:59 pm today.

No deal will be reached, it will be in eventual "default" 5 minutes before midnight on August 2, 2011. And it will be in default for 3 months, according to my sources, that I have and these are not earthly sources. And the ensuing riots, looting, muggings, killings and etc... will happen.
And Martial Law, will eventually be called after 3 months of hell in the U.S.A.. You can bet the farm on this.
