Good deterrent. I've got an old router broadcasting from upstairs that isn't plugged to anything as a decoy and actual router not broadcasting that is named "dial-up"

I just now noticed a new wireless network in my range called "Surveillance Van #4"

Who's networks are these?

According to a media report out of San Antonio, the man recently accused of planning to assassinate a Saudi diplomat in Washington, DC, was not the sharpest tool in the box. However, if neighbour accounts are to be taken at face value, the same could be said of the FBI agents tasked with foiling his alleged plot.

It's unlikely, however, that those accounts are worth face value.

From a story on MySanAntonio.com: "Neighbours, however, said it had been years since (suspect Manssor) Arbabsiar lived in the stucco house he once shared with his wife on a suburban cul-de-sac. They said it appeared as many as 10 people were living in the house, and lately there had been some signs of suspicious activity: When residents looked for available Wi-Fi networks, names like "FBI Van 1" would pop up."

Tampa police arrested an expelled high school student and charged him with planning to blow up Freedom High School on the first day of class next Tuesday.

...

On Sunday evening, he posted this interesting item on his Facebook status page: "The weirdest thing happened today ... when my homie was trying to connect to a wireless network the connections list came up and one of them was called: FBI_SURVEILLANCE_VAN… It was weird..."

If they want to be secretive about their montioring, why don't they pick a more nondescript name?

Now it's obviously someone's goofy network name.

No agent worth their salt would advertise their presence.
