Flashes of light in the sky
Just stepped outside to get some fresh air and was looking at the stars. No lights around me..sky is completely clear. I noticed there are flashes of light in the sky...like a faint lightning...cant explain it. Location is Western MA...anyone else notice this?

Re: Flashes of light in the sky
I have seen strange white explosions in the night sky, it looks like a somewhat slow/quick flash from a camera flash. I saw two such flashes out of the corner of my eye on two occasions.
:KD: IS amused.

Don't there have to be clouds for heat lightning? It does kinda look like camera flashes..they are really faint.

And if you're seeing what I've been seeing, then it's not heat lightning. I've seen heat lightning plenty of times.

The past few nights I've been seeing the entire sky flash and light up. No clouds in the sky. And NO LIGHTNING BOLTS. Just a bright flashing light persistently lighting up the entire sky. No thunder. No sounds accompanying.

And last night there was a power outage. Very strange indeed.

Ok I just came into the house. Was out there for about ten minutes. I saw one flash very distant within the first couple of minutes. I didn't see any more, but what I did see sure didn't look like heat lightening because what I saw was small in comparison and only was but a flash. It is a beautiful night and all the stars are shining. I may even go back outside.

Re: Flashes of light in the sky
I thought I was crazy. Last Friday, in Central Texas, my wife and I saw the same thing....we haven't had storms or rain in months.....lived there all my life and never saw anything like it. The whole sky or just portions of it quickly light up in the blink of an eye, over and over again. I think it is high amounts of solar activity causing northern lights way further south than normal. We have extreme heat in the summer and days on end of 105 is not uncommon...but now TX and OK are getting days on end of 105 to 112.....I'm not claiming that it is from outside sources but, it is not common in the summer. I think we are in a transition and every one whats to blame some bogus bullshit like global warming....I think they knew it was coming and invented some psuedo-science to explain it without causing panic....we are all such friggin sheep.

I've seen them and more than usual lately. I've also noticed sparrows that fly around inside my home near the ceiling but disappear. I catch the flashes of light and see the sparrows often now just out of the corner of my eye.

Re: Flashes of light in the sky
Incidentally I noticed it in the daylight a couple days ago. I thought my eyes were going out on me. It was in the bright blue sky, not a single cloud around, and it was like a patch of sky flashed a lighter shade of white for a moment, barely noticeable unless you pay close attention. Glad I'm not the only one noticing it.

You might have been seeing the storms that passed to the south of you. The cells had very high cloud tops and I noticed the lightning flashing completely across the long island sound from connecticut to long island.

Re: Flashes of light in the sky
About 6 nights ago the sky's were clear and I asked for a flash and got one high up, like a camera flash and thought wtf. So I asked again and same thing same place. But nothing after that. Something is going on. If you hold a quarter out at arms length, that would be the area it took up.
