Actor. Matt Damon Defends Claims Against Teachers (His Mom Teaches)

Footage from the 2011 SOS March. Matt Damon spoke. Matt Damon did interviews. Matt Damon defended teachers against a [expletive] cameraman!

Maybe you're a shitty camera man.

Re: Actor. Matt Damon Defends Claims Against Teachers (His Mom Teaches)
On July 30th, 2011, teachers, parents and advocates such as actor Matt Damon, author Jonathan Kozol, and historian Diane Ravitch gathered for the Save Our Schools Rally outside the White House. The purpose of the event: "To put the public back in public schools."

Reason.tv was on hand to talk tenure, the role of money in education, and whether parents should have the right to choose where their kids go to school.

Approximately 6 minutes.

Produced, shot and edited by Jim Epstein. Hosted by Michelle Fields. Additional editing by Joshua Swain; production assistance from Kyle Blaine.

Not going to lie here, despite the shitty journalism I can tell you right now that there are without a doubt shitty teachers out there, however I would not necessarily put the blame on them as it is the education system itself which has created a shitty assembly line of standardized competitive mentalities which ultimately propel good hearted individuals to teach in such shitty manners. It's not their fault, never was. A lot of the time is how we the students interpret the teachers with the limited knowledge we have regarding the system itself. The curriculum is in FACT a fraud and children rather learn hands on education rather than years of theoretic mechanics on how mathematics and science work.

HERE IS FIDES
AGAIN ON THE REVERSE OF A PAPAL COIN

[link to www.biblelight.net]

It is important to note that in the symbolic woman's hand, is a cup, as illustrated above on the coins, and just barely visible with the statue above and at right. The depiction of the Catholic faith (FIDES) as a woman holding a cup appears to be quite common, and yet is apparently unique to the Catholic Church.

There is a remarkable and direct correlation to these depictions of the Catholic faith as a woman, and the woman described in Revelation 17

As one gets into higher and higher mathematics, hands on just doesn't work. By this point students NEED to have the ability to deal with theoretic mathematical ideas, which means that such learning should be encouraged even at the levels where it is not strictly necessary.

Believe me, even a carefully crafted, hands-on lesson once a student reaches Algebra frequently falls flat if the foundational material is not strongly understood and if the students have no experience connecting theoretical and concrete ideas. Try finding real life, hands on lessons to teach about conic sections (primarily hyperbola) for students to do, or logarithms, or absolute value functions, or cubic functions. (really, the list just goes on and on)

This isn't to say that hands-on learning isn't important, just that it isn't the end all, be all of education.

Absolutely, I could not agree with you any further. Listen, education is virtually unlimited. Every paradigm has its mechanics and theories. The question here is... How much of this information is actually healthy for a child's developing mind? Undoubtedly there are kids who will be fine in life if they miss the opportunity to learn advanced knowledge of theoretical mathematics and science. It's what we are teaching the Children, especially at a standard assembly level that makes the teaching process all together a dull experience. For example, before obtaining a Florida Drivers License, I must study a theoretic rule book and then have a physical driving test. Just because I read the book enough times to pass the test does not ensure that new laws will not be implemented a week later, whom will ultimately challenge what I thought of as correct a week prior to the present where I now find myself having to defend myself in court against an officer who is trying to make a buck for the city he works for. Granted, hands on education seems to be most affective due to its psychological attributes considering one has the ability to hold, feel, and perceive the object or target at a more personal perspective aside from 4th dimensional thoughts who are in themselves quite a challenge to control, especially if you have advanced concentration problems.

The majority of things we do involve physical movements, if this was otherwise, then we would lotus all day and experience astral or playground worlds of our unlimited imagination. Perhaps there should be a strict approach on attributing common sense to education. Human beings should be educated on what they themselves ultimately feel they can contribute to society, no matter what their age group happens to be at any given time. If you want to be a 'Psychopharmacologist, why should odds be stacked up against your costly educational path with non related subjects? It's the entire system itself which is damaged therefor we see events such as the one up above. Teachers complaining about certain factions of the system but ultimately things can be near perfect if the proper attitude and intention is met. The system can be fixed, no problem. Now who is going to do it without upsetting those with the assembly line of assassins?

Summary - It's not JUST a weak pay, but a weak uncustomizable education.

We didn't need TV to enlighten us to the fact that there are some crappy teachers out there .....just like in every profession. It starts in grade school and goes right up through college level programs.

As for Mr. Damon's assertion that no one would take the job unless they loved teaching,BS. A teaching degree is easy to get, they are in high demand and the pay and benefits in most jurisdictions is pretty damn good. Sure beats working as a nurse (much study and VERY LONG HOURS)or working in a business environment (where you are assessed constantly for you ability to contribute), construction (harsh working conditions and hard labor), retail ( having to deal with customers in a service role. All in all teaching is a pretty good gig. You cant get fired unless you screw a student. You work nine months a year. You are in a command role with your customer.

The guy is out of touch.

Oh one more thing. The cameraman is shitty at his job. He let someone else get in frame to block his subject and somehow neglected to get the reporter's fabulous rack in frame.

Not only this but the Cameramen filming for the interviewer should not get involved in defending the interviewer just because he wants to get laid at the end of the day. I will have to side with the FACT that things are always changing and we are still trying to hold on to the idea of what once was. Education is crumbling in my eyes and those who have been cheated and are currently paying for it understand. If you want a real, unbiased education... Welcome to the internet.

Maryland for one. I have a sister in law who is dumber than a left handed screw driver and managed to get and keep a job teaching at a high school.

My son's college level IT instructor does not understand how email works and the entire course was reduced to watching YouTube videos. That was money well spent.

Teachers are ALREADY very well paid for their PART-TIME jobs. The actual number of days they work in a year is small, kind of like Obama.

The vast majority of teachers I had in my life did nothing more than " assign work ".

I have gained the most KNOWLEDGE by studying on my own.

I would have to agree with you! Most of the valuable knowledge I have learned thus far has been through the use of the internet, not only as a supportive backbone to my own personal experiences but as a colossal of knowledge that ultimately surpasses institutionalized standardized education. The way I see it... I can be a doctor if I put my mind to it, now will I enjoy being a doctor? No. Will living in a home based on a doctors salary engulf my mind into thinking only doctor related subjects, hell no. That is why, education should be customized to the certain individual here to experience.

Let people become masters at what they set their eyes too and when they become bored, allow them to educate themselves on something else. This is why one's cultural language compared to other things appears to be so easily mastered. Why? Because the child needs to physically talk to get an idea across. Provide custom, individual educations and observe as the number of NEW teachers rises and NEW innovative ways of thinking are assembled.

As a former teacher who got the hell out of teaching, I can tell you a few things.

First, it's run by bleeding heart liberals who believe that because Johnny acts like an asswipe, he'll still turn out to be okay. No, Johnny is a thug and doesn't give a rat's ass about anything, but he's coddled and endlessly psychoanalyzed.

Second, that they are the worst money handlers of all time.

Third, that they advocate teaching crap in schools, like homosexuality in kindergarten, but are always up in arms when you actually try to teach things like the constitution and critical thinking skills.

If you are anti-Obama, WATCH OUT. You quickly become marginalized and excluded.

You cannot ask a stuent's legal status. YOu also cannot tell a child's parent that their daughter if the daughter told you in confidence.

That last one was when I got out. No, wait, it was when the thug hit me, THEN I got the hell out.
