well at first i thought of an Aurora but thought it couldn't be as I am in southern ca we don't get the northern lights down here !! it just came and went in like 3 seconds !

I suppose we'd have to classify this as some strange unexplained anomaly. Light is produced by energy, so some type of energy is involved here.
There's definately a lack of cases involving aurora borealis sightings in southern california...

I saw it too, about five years ago. My sister and I were walking in our neighborhood somewhere between 9-10p. I don't remember the time of year, but the sky was dark and clear. It appeared out of nowhere and within less than two seconds, it zipped through the sky and disappeared. It was the color of a blue LED light- like the color of a blue laser pointer. The color and width were consistent throughout the sighting- it did not have a fading tail. It moved through the sky very, very quickly (like warp speed, if there ever was such a thing) but appeared just long enough to make a "dash" in the sky- seeming to be very far away in space. I don't know how else to describe it. There was no noise and the surrounding sky was not effected by this light. It was very strange. I was glad to know that my sister was looking in the same direction as me at that very moment and witnessed it to. At least I know I wasn't imagining it.

My thoughts are:
-Space shuttle
-Satellite
-Aurora or some sort of electro-magnetic space phenomenon

Nothing on the web seems to explain it...

I had a similar experience. Same deal I was walking outside after dark and I happened to look up and saw a blue streak but it wasn't in a straight line. It was almost like whatever it was, it took a u-turn and it dissipated within a second. It was a beautiful light colored blue or the color of the Cookie Monster if you will but a little lighter. Ill never forget its color and movement.

THIS EXACT SAME THING JUST HAPPENED TO ME. And my roommate who was on the other side of town!

There appeared to be something only perhaps a couple hundred feet in the air, wide blue light, which illuminated my whole yard!

Then I told my friend about this, and he experienced the same thing, about 15-20 miles away at the same time!

I should note, that I live in Central Ohio, and this took place around 11:10pm

I also just saw it walking my dog at 140 am. northwest ohio

Dang - I'm not too far from the Mexico border in So Cal, myself - wish I'd been outside - there's not really a good place to go out and view the sky where my apartment is located, tho - unless I walk across the way, but that is only the NW and NE sky I can see, really - that must have been pretty trippy

I just went outside, but there is just a glow overhead from the city lights reflecting off the marine layer that comes in at night around here - supposed to be some drizzle next couple of days. I would so love to have a porch or deck to sit on and and look up at the skies.
