New Florida law forces cities and counties to repeal local gun laws

Under a new law that takes effect Oct. 1, all of the state's cities and counties must repeal local rules limiting gun ownership. Although the state has claimed sole right to regulate firearms since 1987, this year's new law adds fines for local officials who fail to comply, and gives gun owners a right to sue for damages if they believe their rights have been violated........

When asked why it why it was OK for state leaders to allow cities to beef up their local laws on a host of other issues, such as where sex offenders can live, but not gun control, the NRA's Hammer replied, "sex offenders are not protected by the Constitution."

She added: "The right to keep and bear arms has Constitutional protection and local governments have been violating the Constitutional rights with no punishment."
