What is Asthmanefrin and why should all preppers have it?
[link to www.survivalblog.com]

Since there isn't Primatene Mist any longer, you need a way to bronchodialate the channels that send air to and from the lungs. Coughing can best be helped by opening the airway. This is far more effective than cough medicine. I've tried to teach you ways to thin the mucus, to increase water vapor, to breath in from a bowl of steaming water and herbs, but this method is the fastest method.

Please read about it. I am not saying to buy it. I'm saying you need something to open up the air passage. A trained herbalist would carefully use jimson weed (see previous postings) to do that in an EMERGENCY without a physican post-collapse.

In the meantime read the article and think. Be a good critical thinker. Don't believe me, but investigate it.

If you have children, read this story to them. It's about a person struggling to stay warm and the dangers of freezing to death.

Teach them "to build a fire".
[link to www.jacklondons.net]

I was nine when I read it, and it had a major impact on me. I understood that all of our technology was worthless in the woods if we couldn't start a fire quickly. The rest of the kids were distracted but I was spellbound. It made me who I am today.

If you arrived here looking for diabetes help, look for topics on bitter melon, fenugreek, plus the refrigeration tips to chill the insulin.

Eat bitter melon each meal and supplemented with fenugreek. Most of you can dramatically lower your blood sugar naturally. You'll need that because you'll have limited insulin. Fenugreek has a maple syrup like flavor. Bitter melon is an acquired taste. It doesn't matter; it will keep you alive.

Agave nectar has a low glycemic index. It can be grown as a sweetner. It's a good alternative for diabetics. It has just as many calories, which are needed for doing a lot of work to boost energy, but isn't going to overload which is VITAL for a diabetic. It tastes good too.

The main secondary issue is circulation. There's little you can do about your eyesight. A diabetic needs to be vigilant about leg circulation. You will sleep with your feet propped up since most of your blood stays there pooled, you want to get that back to the heart to be repumped through the liver and kidneys and remove cellular wastes.

Massage the feet and legs of a diabetic daily in a post-collapse.NO EXCEPTIONS. They will be working and on their feet for many hours to grow enough food to survive. A small lesion can easily form and cause a life threatening infection. These happen between the toes. Don't let that happen.

Cracking in between the toes will happen due to lye soap and dry conditions and too much standing. Jojoba oil will really help lubricate the skin and prevent this and only takes a drop.

An stitch in time saves nine.

I've written a short post on dehydration and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) as a result of starvation post-collapse. It also details the extreme vulnerability of the average unprepared person versus the prepper. I also show how to do a good chokehold with a rapid response to the enemy.

See:
Thread: *Prep Moochers: When People Think They're Going to Live Off "Your" Preparedness Supplies...* (Page 2)

But read back what I posted describing the effects of dehydration prior in that topic.

This is why a lot of sheep will die because they don't have water and food. By the time they realize the seriousness of their situation, they're doomed. Their response if attacking you will be coupled with:
Blurred vision, hallucinations, low blood pressure, dizziness, no upper body strength, etc.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
We have forgotten
That once we were wild spirits
All pervading fierceness
Warriors
We may not have fought often
But protected our families
We grew our food
We raised our animals
When things broke...
We repaired them
When children misbehaved,
We disciplined them
But rarely for we didn't have to
We loved our wives deeply
Because they were as tough as us
It was their beauty
We focused upon
For they inspired us

Then we believed their lies,
Worked in offices
Detached from the Land
Our souls so full of ennui
Doubt
Slow rage for no reason
Mindless entertainment
Some mindless whore on the screen
Instead of delight
We became corrupt
And shadow-men

Wake from your slumber
The soporific no longer satisfies
Reclaim your destiny
Seize it

The importance of a fire reflector

A lot of you know, I'm a big proponent of the Dakota Hole Fire. They have little smoke, burn hot, catch quick, naturally work well for pot cooking, can't be seen far away since the flames are below ground, simple to make etc.

The problem is in Winter camping, you can't make them. Also, if you could manage, the ground would be icy hard, so slow to create, and on top of that, snow will drip into your hole.

You need a different fire, and likely you need a fire reflector.
[link to www.survivalistssite.com]
[link to www.7tharochdale.org.uk]

You need a roaring fire in Winter, for the chill will wick away your body heat and you could easily die of exposure.

Don't waste that heat, bounce it back at you and your loved ones. This one is doing double duty. It's blocking the wind which really helps when first lighting it. You don't dare let it go out, not if lacking tinder, and much of that is covered with snow in Winter beside being wet.

Practice making one, and have your children replicate it. Also, after making the form of it, have them fill it in later to make it more windproof. Be careful. Don't get it too close. Don't use igniteable pine since it has resinous pitch inside.

Due to the proximity of the reflector, it will slowly get fire-hardened. That's a good thing. You might use those for tool-making later, and then trade out the pieces to fire-harden more.

Some of you may have seen this article explaining the superiority of the Finnish (Finland) method of public education versus the USA. I know many of you home school. I think anyone could benefit from an examination of what is WORKING versus the broken system of the US educational methodology.

I think you'll find it enlightening and can alter your home schooling to match some of the principles. It might result in a serious increase in your child's education and practical knowledge.

Post-collapse, we'll be reforming the tribes and forming real communities, and we could use their ideas and create a uniquely new alloy of American and Finnish education. Please consider it. I am.

Education will radically change post-collapse. Much of it will be practical. It also MUST by definition be about taking pre-existing technology and MacGuyvering it, for much of our industrial ability will be limited. That means we need creative children who can look at broken junk and transform it into a useful device that will save time, be safe, and do more work than many hands.

The children must learn the integration of ancestral knowledge, but also be critical thinkers who can examine those ways and improve them. It's a dynamic process, not a stagnant static one.

Because most survivors post-collapse won't have practical skills, the school will be just as much a resource for adults. All of you will be cross-training in first aid, animal husbandry, agriculture, hunting, trapping, fishing, but also maintaining the culture and history and science and spirituality. There won't be colleges anymore except what your tribe and community makes.

In history, the first colleges were created by spiritual people. They were learned men(priests and monks) and women(nuns) who might offer enormous benefit to the community after they went to the monastery, nunnery, or abbey to learn and then come back to teach all of the things above. They were shaman.

Many of you know things. It's locked in your brain. You will be the shaman in your communities. You will either save them or doom them. It's your decision. Long term survival MUST be about education and creating new skills in other people.

Remember this golden rule: If a student can teach a subject back to another, then they KNOW it. That demonstrates confidence, understand multiple modalities of education, persuasion, as well as mastery of the subject.

Example: a student has been taught medicinal herbs. They then lead the teacher and students through a meadow and explain all of the ones encountered, when to harvest them, what they're used for, what dangers are there in using them, what can they treat with them, what alternative herb to use due to season availability, which ones can be cultivated, and do all of that in a comprehensive educational way so that the least of the students in knowledge actually learns from the student's presentation.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
Here's a concise article explaining to non-agricultural folks about the genetically modified wheat that you're eating. They suggest eating spelt instead.

[link to www.wakingtimes.com]
"Plant breeders changed wheat in dramatic ways. Once more than four feet tall, modern wheat–the type grown in 99 percent of wheat fields around the world–is now a stocky two-foot-tall plant with an unusually large seed head. Dr. Davis says accomplishing this involved crossing wheat with non-wheat grasses to introduce altogether new genes, using techniques like irradiation of wheat seeds and embryos with chemicals, gamma rays, and high-dose X-rays to induce mutations.

In July 2009, the most hated company in the world Monsanto, announced new research into GM wheat and industry groups kicked their promotion of GM wheat into high gear. “Widespread farmer and consumer resistance defeated GM wheat in 2004 and this global rejection remains strong, as demonstrated by today’s statement,” said Lucy Sharratt, Coordinator of the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network."

There is a host of illnesses and tumors which appear to be related to consumption of GMO wheat. Having spelt seed might be a way to cope for preppers. There are several heirloom species of spelt that companies sell. I will leave you to find them.

Realize this. A GMO wheat will release its pollen and pollute any wheat it finds. Some will cross with it. It will contaminate it. It will ruin it. It is evil and morally reprehensible.

Years ago, one of the horrific aspects of the film Omen II which dealt with the coming of the Antichrist was the manipulation of food by breeding plants and having exclusive control of the seeds from them. Now it's happening.

Those corporations that control food and water will end up controlling the world.

The foods we eat change our DNA expression. It's called epigenetics but is a very new science. The very foods that you ingest result in surpluses of nutrients but also the ingestion of phytochemicals. Like the sun's rays, those phytochemicals are sensed and the body alters what proteins are made as a result.

There also is a science called genomics which has applications in pharmaclogy (medicinal drugs).
[link to en.wikipedia.org]
Ever take a drug and it doesn't work for you? Even though it works for others, small changes in your DNA result in changes in metabolism, and so that drug won't work you. However with genomics, one day a scientist could read your DNA and then tailor prescribe a drug that would be known to work with those like you.

The world is changing. Many of the foods we eat have been dramatically altered so they produce higher yields in the same space, but often with bizarre blending of the DNA. No one knows the effect of such an experiment. When I was younger, there was great concern about ever releasing such created species. No one knew how those foods would alter our DNA and protein expression with epigenetics. Even then we feared the consequences.

You go to the grocery store believing that your food is safe. That's not true. It's laced will all manner of fillers like wood cellulose, taste enhancers, additives to keep the food from spoiling, high fructose corn syrup is in your jelly (and a ton of your foods...read the labels closely), and slowly but surely higher and higher concentrations of it are replacing normal fruit.

Did you know that they even put corn syrup in infant formula? That should make every mother and father with a baby...to shudder. It is sometimes the 2nd ingredient listed. The higher up on the ingredient list, the higher the percentage of that ingredient.
[link to www.parenting.com]

The only safe way to cope is to grow your own food and gather wild edibles from the forests and meadows. If you're not gardening now, then how will you cope later? Don't just accept what I say. Do some independent research. Be a good critical thinker. Pray about it. Make plans.

Making yogurt

Because there will be a dramatic rise in all dairy products, I have been writing about making those things at home. You can produce a superior product, and make a very nutritious yogurt at home.

You can use agave nectar and that results in a product with a low glycemic index, which would be a great kindness for a diabetic person and delicous. They will become your best friend! Try it.
[link to www.kalynskitchen.com]
It still has the calories but it slowwwwwly releases into their blood sugar and so far better for them.

I am a real believer in agave nectar.
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

Kefir is also very expensive and delicious, but can be made at home.

Kefir is made with bacteria and yeast. Yogurt is made only from bacteria. See:
[link to www.3fatchicks.com]

Trust me, if you can tolerate yeast, then TRY KEFIR. You will love it.

Note: if making either for a LDS friend, don't put in any extract that has alcohol. They can't use it.

A long time ago, people would regularly make food items and give them to friends or people they wanted to make friends with. It is a time honored tradition. It is a wonderful way to minister to others. It is goodness itself to spend a little money and so be frugal, spend a small amount of time and care, and then lavish this upon others. Since they won't know people who do that, for it is rare, then in their estimate you will be a great friend. Friendship is golden. Even if they believe different things, how better to heal the world of brokenness by becoming friends with those who are different than us? Yes?

I have shown you many things you could make to offer as gifts that show tenderness, respect, and also help spread the word about prepping and a spiritual dimension to Life. A lot of people are worried, but they are quiet. If you begin to speak to others by using your heart(soul) and learn to perceive their heart(soul), then the Source will often give you a chance to share your faith.

If you don't believe, and you wish to learn about the Source and Jesus, how glad they will often be to talk about Him.

Stop being shy. You have gifts inside you. The Source put you here for reasons. Maybe one reason is simply to show kindness and offer friendship to that new person on the block who misses their old city. Maybe you make some yogurt and take it to the elderly lady who lost her husband and doesn't cook as much as she used to.

Maybe there's a lonely guy who's handsome and writes on GLP on prepping who wishes that a pretty Lady would come by with some fresh bread.

Good to know, old guard, and thanks for participating.

Goats don't require much. It's common for goats to be stablemates in Kentucky. The horses get lonely, for they are very social creatures, but don't like another horse in the same pen. But they love goats being with them and make friends.
[link to articles.chicagotribune.com]
""The practice of keeping a goat in the stall with a nervous horse has been around for a long time, probably as long as there have been racehorses," said Arlington trainer Bette Gabriel, recalling that she has seen cases where a horse would become so attached that its goat would have to be brought along to the paddock every time the horse raced.

Although most of the track goats and horses develop a lifelong friendship, Gabriel's goat, Sally, has actually baby-sat three different horses in the four years she has had her."

At the end of the season, often there's a big goat barbecue. I know for some folks that seems cruel, but they're good eatin'. They buy a new goat for the horse.

I met several Sudanese men. They were very tall and lean and muscular. Their ancestors would have been warriors during the time of the medieval crusades. Anyway, they'd had all kinds of exotic meat that they had hunted with a spear. Sometimes a lion would leap to kill a goat, and they'd brace for impact with a long spear and impale the lion. They hunted rhino in large packs with their spears, and rhinos can run very fast. Despite all of that, they loved goat flesh more than any other meat, even exceeding Black Angus cattle.

Thanks, I didn't know about this book. I read Reviving Ophelia:Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls when it came out as it was pertinent to youth ministry.

Yes that book in the link The Middle of Everywhere:Helping Refugees Enter the American Community includes both Kosovo and Sudanese refugees. I've met both. They're tough people. Cubans too. They come to American with nothing and yet are able to thrive while other fail.

It's all very appropriate and inspiring. Most people haven't had any hardship in their lives, and these groups have seen not only rape, torture, sexual slavery, beatings, killings, but also genocide.

"US banks shaken by biggest deposit withdrawals since 9/11

US Federal Reserve is reporting a major deposit withdrawal from the nation’s bank accounts. The financial system hasn’t seen such a massive fund outflow since 9/11 attacks.

The first week of January 2013 has seen $114 billion withdrawn from 25 of the US’ biggest banks, pushing deposits down to $5.37 trillion, according to the US Fed. Financial analysts suggest it could be down to the Transaction Account Guarantee insurance program coming to an end on December 31 last year and clients moving their money that is no longer insured by the government."

Be concerned people, very concerned. If you have a fireproof safe at home (and hopefully afixed to the floor securely) then it would be wise to have cash just in case there's ever an issue. Then, as previously stated on numerous occasions, when others in a financial crisis are attempting to use credit/debit cards and you have cash, then you could quickly purchase last minute items while they may not be able to do so.

If you live within the pink area on the map, you should be supplementing your supplies. With the two epidemics going on right now, this is no time to lose power due to frozen iced up lines and be short on some critical supplies. Check everything right away.

You are quite welcome. I'm glad to be a resource for anyone who is preparing or interested in the phenomena and the universal ancestral practice.
.......
There's much consternations about the dearth of ammunition in the USA. There's two reasons to have ammunition: hunting and killing.

Post-collapse, if many people die, then there's a potential to hunt animals. I'm inclined to believe that many people will die based upon a lack of preparing. However in history, much hunting resulted in a rapid decline in animal populations. Hunting requires a high amount of skills: tracking, silent movement, heightened senses, heighten perception, and luck.

Trapping provides far more meat on the table for many reasons: 24/7 gathering of critters, less energy required to collect them, being able to be many places simultaneously, etc.

Ammunition will result in perhaps as low as a tenth of your total animal protein and only for such time as competition doesn't scare them into more dense terrain.

Ammunition for killing is difficult to assess as a necessary supply. I hope we're talking self-defense, for that is what I'm discussing. The realistic ammount of ammunition required is so far beyond the average preppers capabilities that it would be wisdom to discuss with a military or law enforcement person what those realistic amounts would be.

Because most people are sheep, ill trained in survival, completely lacking in agrarian abilities (growing crops and raising livestock), lack enough common sense to hunt or trap (and believe me these are at the apex of survival skills), have no military training in small arms, ranged weapons, hand-to-hand combat, knife ability regarding both survival and combat, or general tactics of movement, evasion, defense and offense, then most sheep will die.

They will likely die from dehydration, starvation, illness, lack of supplies, and their own foolishness.

Your self-defense will largely be based upon repelling druggies, which will come in an early first wave and be probably ridiculously easy to repel for a moderately trained prepper. Then you will be resisting highly trained sociopaths who will resort at any technique even burning down buildings to get what they desire. They'll ram houses with trucks. They won't waste ammunition, for it will be scarce. They might even enslave you since they lack agrarian ability. Worse things like forced sexual slavery too which frequently happened like earlier posts about river pirates.
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

That's why you need ammunition.

Hi DBA

I noticed you posting about education...so thought I would add this. This is what I do!!..lol..and this is what I will be able to continue to do ,hopefully, whatever happens.

This is how education should be for all children..it is the best start you can give your child..and I truly believe this.
I teach the lower elementary class...yrs 1,2 and 3..so 5-8 yr olds all in one class.
I have picked a few vids..each offers something to help explain what a montessori education is about. There is so much to explain...but I hope these will give a good idea.

I'm happy to answer any questions.

This is the primary class , the age group I teach.

These show a mixture of 3-6 yr old classes and Primary.

Pinkpixiexx, here's the one video that you couldn't embed.

When I work with young people, I ask them, "What would a perfect group of young people look like? What qualities would that group have? What qualities are bad and not helpful?"

Then we talk about those things. Things like mutual respect, not slamming each other with insults, people all feeling welcome and honored. After building a community like that, they all really love it. When having a dance, there's no one who feels ostracized, but rather everyone dances with everyone, something that's unusual in a teen setting. No one feels bad because their body shape isn't perfect.

I've actually had several who cry as their parents pick them up, for they say, "Argh I hate going back to reality now."

Thank you for participating. The goal is to show people skills to cope if a collapse happens.

A school is vital to survival and also to thriving. If you go back many hundreds of posts, I discuss how that's one of the only ways to teach adults as well as children both ancestral skills, coping skills for community building, as well as the regular skills taught in schools. The only way we'll have doctors post-collapse is by learning from doctors, else the next generation is doomed.

I agree...education is important and will be vital!! But it needs to be the correct sort of education...as you say ..to learn practical skills along side academic skills!

Learning should be a joyous activity..and children should love school. A school should be able to meet the needs of all children and Montessori does that because children progress at their own pace..with each child working to their own schedule and at the correct level of difficulty.

Yes the children at my our school love coming to school...don't want to go home...choose to continue working when given other options during indoor play and cry when it is the holidays..lol

Primary school teachers who work with 1st-3rd grade are Saints. They teach all the basics, most are very compassionate and listen to children who are just hungry for attention, and make the rest of education so much simpler. God bless you.

Where do you live? The UK? YES you do! So pretty and with an English accent. How delicious!

Take care of yourself, or I'll worry about you. I saw this today about your economy.

British Economy Is WORSE than During the Great Depression
"Ministers today admitted Britain is facing “very, very grave difficulties” after figures showed the economy did not grow at all in 2012.
***
Economists from the Royal Bank of Scotland said the last four years have produced the worst economic performance in a non post-war period since records started being collected in the 1830s.
***
“It’s the worst economic performance since at least 1830, outside of post-war demobilisations,” he told The Daily Telegraph. “It’s worse than the 1920s, it’s worse than the Great Depression.”

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
Eating to stay strong and heal yourself

When the collapse comes, it will shock a lot of people. They'll be in denial and suppose that help will come any day. They'll think that soon, next week or so, government troops will arrive with food supplies. Then a month passes, maybe two and food has run out, and lots of people will dying all along that period.

As people get weaker and weaker and lack clean water, their bodies get very susceptible to illness. It's not only that, for seeing so much death is not normal. Only preachers, physicians, and nurses see that much death ordinarily. It will shock the minds of many, and it will sap their strength.

Some will give up. Parents or spouses will pretend to eat in order for children to get nourishment. Older children are liable to skip meals or go outside and work so there's more for their brothers and sisters. People will get scrawny, their hair will break off, their ribs will show. Clothing will hang on them.

If you don't prepare, your body will begin breaking down your muscles, fat, and skeleton to help you stay alive. As that happens, your body will begin to suffer all kinds of infection and ravage the body. It's a cruel slow death of torture.

I don't like reminding folks of this. I also don't want to see you suffer. If I'm hard on you, it's only because I want you and your loved ones to make it.

Some people never recover when they bury a little one.

Buy supplies now and rotate them.

Making Wattle and Daub

Have you thought how you're going to repair walls or create new walls in the absence of sawmills and fuel? While it's entire possible to fell trees, let them season and cut lumber and dry it, that's a lot of ifs. If you try it, you'll no doubt create a lot of warped lumber. It's why homes were often made largely as log cabins and chinked to fill in the gaps.

Sometimes you'd like a wall or fencing though and the easiest way is to make a wattle and daub wall by interweaving branches and then covering that with mud. It'll dry well and look fairly smooth and will be very strong. Even if you chose not to finish it, but leave it exposed, then it looks beautiful as long as you take care to weave it uniformly.

It's a very old school method that's be done by people all over the world throughout history. Even young people can easily be put to work making or patching these sorts of walls.

By making them in sections, they will be stronger and won't sag. For fencing, you'll put in your posts with a posthole digger by pouring in a little water to losen the soil. The you'll undersize the hole versus the pole you're driving in and probably using a sledgehammer. Then build your sections and attach them to the poles.

This technique can be used to channel breeze or as a windbreak as well.

Watch the first video. Were you surprised by the daub ingredients? lmao Hopefully you'll have access to some cows or horses as they eat grasses and that combination of water, manure, mud, and straw creates a great natural cement. It doesn't smell once it dries.

The last video shows a very uniform wattle if you have bamboo. You can grow bamboo easily, but the problem is controlling it. Like sumac, it will grow underground and pop up a few feet away and can take over a field. You sure wouldn't want to plant bamboo anywhere near your cropfields.

Using clay is possible, but using up a ton of clay. That's fine if you'd got river banks, and using that makes a very uniform interior wall, and like a natural plaster wall used to be made. Remember though that this clay is your means of making pots, so you've got to manage that post-collapse. It's quite an undertaking to haul clay.

Kissinger Predicts Nuclear War with Iran
[link to thecomingdepression.blogspot.com]
"Globalist kingpin, renowned war criminal and Rockefeller co-conspirator Henry Kissinger is talking up a nuclear conflagration.

Speaking at the one-worlder confab held in Davos, Switzerland, Kissinger said a crisis involving a nuclear Iran in the “foreseeable future” will lead to a nuclear war and “a turning point in human history,” the BBC reports.
“There has emerged in the region, the current and most urgent issue of nuclear proliferation. For 15 years, the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council have declared that a nuclear Iran is unacceptable, but it has been approaching,” Kissinger said."

The Resistance Begins: New York Gun Owners Refuse to Register; “Largest Act of Civil Disobedience in State History”
[link to thecomingdepression.blogspot.com]

"With emotions running high in the aftermath of the Newtown Sandy Hook shooting, politicians on the State and Federal level have begun introducing legislative actions to curtail access to firearms protected by the Second Amendment. In Missouri, parents may soon be forced to register firearms with their child’s school under threat of criminal penalties. In Massachusetts, another proposal would require storage of semi-automatic rifles at government approved storage depots. And, in the State of New York, congressional representatives have already passed legislation that requires registration of every semi-automatic rifle and reduces maximum magazine capacity to 7 rounds of ammunition, and Governor Cuomo has floated the idea of gun confiscation.

Now, in what is sure to be a growing trend across the entire country, New York gun owners are organizing a resistance against what many believe to be the most, “brazen infringement on the right to keep and bear arms anywhere in the nation,” according to The New American:Preparations are already being made for mass resistance."
