Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
"15 The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. 16 It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.

18 This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man.[a] That number is 666." Revelation 13:15-18

If you are ever told you must do this, or think you will be forced to do this, then you must flee as fast as you can and as far as you can, unless you can fight. To allow it to happen will imperil your very soul.

I know some of you don't believe. That's up to you, for there is Free Will. If this happens and you do not believe, then you know what will happen to you.

Because the vast majority of you have zero practical skills to grow or raise food, you are each week buying food. What happens when that stops? What happens when you're told you must take a "mark" like an RFID chip in order to do transactions? Will you do it, because you'll justify it as necessary to feed your family?

I think most people will do it, and I shudder at the consequences.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
If you were managing a low amount of food, how could you carefully manage it to keep from starving?

In a severe collapse, 95% of people will starve to death. I cannot magically put food in your cupboards. I can teach you how to fool your body into burning the metabolism at a lower rate. This will buy you some time to deal with a loss of calories.

We know from numerous war examples what happens to civilian populations. The utilities of water, sewage, electricity, natural gas get slower and less reliable. More is allocated to critical infrastructure areas: hospitals, security, utility operations, transportation and these areas cannot stop or else the whole system will undergo collapse. Because of that, supplies are diverted to maintain these areas, and naturally food and fuel for vehicles will be the first to be rationed.

The natural response is to eat what you have in your home, as you always do. If you eat three meals a day in the ordinary fashion, then your family will die sooner than smart families who manage their food supplies.

Probably 10% of people will gorge on supplies as they panic. They'll be the first ones to starve to death.

Think about dieting. You severely cut back on food, and as you did, you initially lost “weight” but it wasn't fat, was it? Most of what you lost in the first two weeks was water. You felt disappointed, didn't you? Only by exercising quite a bit and curtailing calories more did you begin to see a slow loss of weight. It began with glycogen loss from your muscles under the new strain of exercising. Then you began to tear down muscle tissue, and only then did your body notice and say, “Hmmm I need to adjust catalysis and digestion and repair muscle and stop burning muscle tissue. I'll start pulling from fat reserves in the abdomen and hips instead.”

You can use this principle to maintain weight in an emergency, can't you?

When the body sees a daily amount of calories within a normal range, then the body maintains metabolism in a normal range. If you alter the ingestion of calories by eating 5 small meals, then the body begins to adjust a higher burn rate of metabolism versus 3 regular meals. If a person ate one large meal a day to make mealtimes easier and using less cooking fuel and managing time better, then your body would lower the metabolic rate even more, wouldn't it?

When dieting, when the body sees an overall average of calories over many days, then the body maintains metabolism. If one were to eat 800 calories for three days, 1400 calories for three days, then 2000 calories for three days then your body would see a steady increasing amount of food, and so wouldn't slow down metabolism, so that person would lose weight.

If one were to eat 2000 calories for three days, then 1400 calories for three days, then 800 calories for three days then the body sees less and less calories per day and SLOWS DOWN METABOLISM. This method extends the period of starvation.

If one ate one meal per day of 2000 calories for three days, the one meal of 1400 calories for three days, then one meal of 800 calories, then the body would slow down metabolism even more.

It's not how many calories you eat, it's how you eat those calories.

In famines, people fill up their bellies with water. They're very hungry, and think that the water will stretch the belly and so stop hunger pangs. It seldom works. However for metabolism to work, your body's biochemistry needs water. If you drink only what is adequate and not under a lot of work, then your body will have less water to do metabolism. Therefore less catalysis (breakdown) will occur. Don't drink water more than 8 glasses of water per day while starving. The only time you need more water is when in a fully fed state and under a lot of work like being a soldier.

You will not have water or heat. That means at certain times you'll be busy gathering fuel for fires. You will daily be gathering water unless you have a cistern at home and a collection system for rain and/or a well. If you have to walk three miles one direction over uneven terrain carrying 10 gallons of water which weighs 83 lbs, then your body is doing a lot of calorie burning, isn't it?

While in a well-fed state, then if you have an abundance of wood as fuel, then you won't have to collect as much. That means less calories are lost from doing work while you have large amounts of fat on your body to maintain weight. If you gather wood while starving, the body will ramp up metabolism since it sees, "Oh nuts! My muscles need more glycogen made. Divert as much as possible to build it up!" and so you will accelerate starvation. DON'T DO THIS.

Food spoils in the early days of a collapse. When there is no utilities, you preserve food as best as you can, and then have a block party banquet for the rest in your freezer and refrigerator. By eating it that way, you put it into bellies where the food will not spoil, but be used.

Then you eat food based upon spoilage rates, not following your normal patterns.

Then you will eat dried and canned food based upon the method I listed above. By doing this method, you will extend your food supply in the proper way. That's the best method for untrained people. Trained preppers have adequate supplies and even what they have in the freezer can be canned or dried (sometimes) by alternative methods.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
Much of this post was written in a way to help parents as well as single parents to understand some history of dating:
Thread: dating&romance advice - see Don´tBeAfraid´s tips/explanations - edited to have only the useful information for ya! (Page 12)

If you fit into that category, or there's a potential of becoming a parent, then you should read it too.

It details what happened in 1920 and why we need to open our eyes to human behavior regarding dating.

Post-collapse survivors will likely include young people and there's no doubt that a radical shift will occur regarding the ending of "dating" and a return to something akin to those mature young people aged 15-17 marrying again as they did in history.

As such, a parent will need to teach them very important skills for they won't be around to protect them as we do today. They'll run off... if afraid of your wrath at them falling in love with a local person amidst the collapse. Instead, you're going to have to do a mind-shift and help them instead, most likely as your ancestors did by allowing them to "marry" through a local ceremony and living with you.

Because a preacher or pastor may not be around, YOU may be the one marrying them before God.

This is typical tribal behavior. Think of them trying to live alone some how by themselves with no tools, no supplies in a very scary world.

In the absence of birth control in a post-collapse world, in the absence of obstetricians and gynecologists and the rarity of physicians, YOU will be delivering babies, and most likely helping your children.

Moms, that likely will be YOU teaching them the natural birth control I previously discussed using the mucus, basal temperature, and rhythm method. You have to know it completely, for a young Lady having a child at 16 or younger is a scary delivery in the absence of medicines, equipment, and trained personnel.

Thread: Should You Buy a Standby Generator?

I made a post here on a form of oil heater that one could construct for pennies and by salvaging parts from the trash bin. Likewise, one could collect waste oil from grease from restaurants and use that to burn in the oil heater, and filter it to burn in simple oil lamps too.

Any sturdy container filled with waste oil and using a bit of fiberglass from your attic insulation will serve as wick that won't burn up.

You don't need to buy it, you MacGuyver it. Some stiff wire serves to hold the fiberglass wick in place.

Please read about that oil heater at the link above. You will likely use it, for a baby food jar of waste oil will heat all day a small room but needs to vent out a window, which you an easily do on the cheap.

...and unfortunately it will make your room smell like french fries which will make your hunger more intense, but it's free heat.

If you place a series of pots which are linked with metal spacers like so, then the clay will become thermal mass and will radiate the heat better from an oil lamp.

Hi DBA & all, hi

soaking wet & stinking hot here.

We personally didn't get flooded put the area did, but there was still a mess to clean up. One greenhouse got destroyed due to the wind and the weight of the water but it was tied down so didn't fly away.

Didn't lose power but internet sporatic, water supply has been compromized so using my 15ltr jugs in preps to be safe for the next couple of days... this has been recommended anyway.

Its been a good reminder of what needs to be added or adjusted, pleased to note not that much but you can never have too much knowledge and for that I thank you for this thread DBA.

Whilst we have lost a few people, nothing like 2011, I hope that everyone has seen the good ol' Aussie spirit shining through the devastation.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear a greenhouse got damaged. They are so expensive. Yes Citizenperth also was prepped. I'm glad you were too. I heard three days minimum on not using water, so I got concerned. Local bottled water usually gets bought out in the first hour of a crisis like that. I'm glad you're safe.

There are many evil people on GLP who pervert the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and who claim to speak for Jesus as well as claim to be Christ themselves.

Brothers and Sisters, if we believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, then we must challenge false prophets. I urge you to read the exchange of IAMIAM in this topic. He's all over the place and is the spawn of Satan. He is surely doing the work of Lucifer and warping the word of Yeshua.

Thread: Sin is the reason the world is messed up (Page 9)

Please one star his threads, give him red karma, and shut him down for good, rather than let him cause a little one to burn in the lake of fire.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
When the collapse comes, the People will be very afraid. They will look for easy answers in their despair. They will listen to evil ones, for evil is often persuasive and beguiling. Those evil ones will organize those with weapons and hunt other survivors and horrors will happen. Things so awful like that happen in collapses and war.

You must arm yourselves and not think that, “Everything will be alright, I need not worry”. Satan wants to disarm you so his minions can then harm your family. Evil will not stop at theft, but rape, enslavement, murder, these are the tools of Lucifer.

Accept Jesus into your heart so you may use the best tool to fight evil. Evil flinches at the sound of the Name. When we command by using the Name of Jesus, and rebuke in the Name of Jesus, then evil is exposed and often stunned.

Use that, read the Bible and come to know it, as well as the back of your hand.

Then being full of the love of YHWH, the love of Yeshua, being baptized by water and the Holy Spirit, using the Name Above All Names of Yeshua, and having arms and supplies and skills, then we may oppose Satan and his minions.

The most dangerous foe is not druggies or wannabee gang members. The most dangerous foe is a warped false prophet who leads the People with evil and serves Lucifer.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
A leader's guide to work crews

You will find new tribe members to enlarge your community, however the problem won't be finding them, but refusing to allow them to join. You're going to have to be judicious about who can stay and who cannot. It would be great to help everyone, but that's impossible. There will be too many untrained people with zero skills of value. While you can train people quickly, in the interim they're going through supplies rapidly, and it will be a long time before harvest and preserving the harvest.

You need ramrods, dependable people who both know how to do things, can teach how to do things, can communicate well, and motivate people. The last thing a leader needs is to micro-manage an entire operation.

Water: This is your first and most vital need. You must have rainwater operations into cisterns and wells. I've discussed both. It's hard heavy labor at the beginning, for you need carts made, then strong people to haul the carts and containers there, and then safely back. They need to be trained on how to communicate with strangers, and those wanting to join up, and negotiating with property owners in case they have to cross it. They'll be armed of course.

Crops: Some will be master gardeners. They will run it, track harvests and seed savings. They report on supplies they need. Many children can help here after-school.

Salvage: Post-collapse, you need crews to go into abandoned places to harvest materials and haul them back. You need clever people who can rapidly assess the value of what's laying around, but also street-wise about defending it and safely returning. They strip everything from only certain homes, or else incur the wrath of the construction folks.

Construction: Highly trained clever MacGuyvers. They make it work. They find a way. Carpenters, mechanics, electricians, electronics, pipefitters, etc.

Traders: these people understand the value of salvaged goods plus are great salespeople for selling excess goods. They know people who are contacts in other tribes. They are persuasive and cunning.

Gunsmiths: These folks know how to repair, alter, rebuild, reload, etc.

Livestock: These people love animals, are very insightful, don't waste feed or materials, good at birthing, likely a vet is needed here.

Security: Law enforcement and soldiers

Crafts: These people know skills very well. They can harvest things that others don't know about: healing herbs, wild edibles, times of harvest, identify trees for lumber, notice changes in animal movement. A lot of artisans here too. Pottery makers. Ink makers. Book binders and paper makers.

Docs and midwives: most of the time, few are sick but they're healing them and doing PREVENTATIVE CARE and managing dwindling medicines, the rest of the time they're teaching adults and teens so everyone is cross trained in first aid

Hunters/Trappers: a handful who bring in meat and fish. Too many means wasted effort and time. You need the good ones to stalk and not scare off animals.

Child/Elder care: Educators, but also babysitters. All adults will rotate through the school to both teach what they know as well as learn new skills.

Cooking crew: run by a master chef, who manages the most calories to maintain a decent blood sugar so the work crews stay healthy. They know how to preserve food and to combine it so it's nutritious and tasty. Nothing is wasted. What few scraps are used for feed and for compost. That won't be much.

It's highly likely that the ramrod from each crew is reporting back at a council, for all are crucial. A change on one effects all.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
Reading about prepping is NOT knowing how to prep

A lot of people enjoy reading prepper material. The goal is to disseminate ancestral skills and then put them in practice. If you're reading my posts for entertainment, then you'll die in a collapse. It's not enough to know theoretically how to gather wild edibles or MacGuyver something, you have to try doing it.

If you're just being a reader and not a doer, then STOP, for you are wasting your time. I'm only a resource for you. Don't be passive, but try to actually do some things to help your family instead.

Likewise regarding spiritual matters, if you feel moved to become a Christian, stop fooling around, but go to church, see a pastor, and get baptized.

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." James 1:22

Satan desires for you to delay, to consider, to think upon these things, rather than prepping or being baptized. The longer you delay, the better it is for the Evil One.

Don't let the Lord of Darkness steal your victory in Jesus Christ.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
Repair your relationship with Jesus

There are a ton of Christians praying for the Second Coming of Yeshua. You should know that when Yeshua comes again, it will be a fearful day. He will come in judgement.
"Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen." The Revelation to John 1:7

All people will mourn! Don't think that you will not mourn, for it says ALL PEOPLE.

Do not wish for it to come soon. There are many who might yet be saved by the power of the Name of Jesus. We have an enormous amount of work in Christian missions to spread the Gospel. Don't pray constantly for judgement, for I can tell you that when you face Jesus in judgement for the sins you have NOT asked forgiveness for, then that will cause such terror in your hearts!

Instead, now TODAY, search your hearts(souls) and intentionally think,"Is there any secret sin which I am so ashamed of that I haven't asked God for forgiveness?" If so, then STOP, immediately ask for forgiveness, be contrite and sin no more. Stop damaging your relationship with Jesus.

Otherwise when the Judgement comes, and you face the eyes of Yeshua, the only Begotten SON OF GOD, the Creator of galaxies, then it won't be a mild mannered gentle man from Galilee, but the ALL POWERFUL ONE. It would be better to be God fearing than to reduce the power of God into a little pleasant box that you pull out on Sunday for an hour and a half.

If you're not respecting God, then your lack of relationship with God is damaging you. It is the ultimate self-sabotage.

"9Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser,
Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.

10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding
.

11For by me your days will be multiplied,
And years of life will be added to you.

12If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
And if you scoff, you alone will bear it."
Proverbs 9: 9-12

That word in verse 10 in Hebrew is yirat.

It means a DEEP RESPECT of YHWH which invokes fear.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
A very simple method of tapping a maple tree using simple hardware. Why not at least try it, and let your children help, and then cook it down? By doing this, you allow them to learn, have a good family experience, and also delicous real maple syrup versus corn syrup. That's right, the artifical maple syrup you're eating is one of the most toxic substances known to Man.

Remember undersize the bore hole with a smaller than needed drill. Otherwise, you won't get a tight fitting. Think, "Hmmm a handdrill would be a very useful thing to have post-collapse, wouldn't it?"

Very very simple and clear instructions. You need to check that the maple sap is rising based upon the average normal time for your region. They usually will mention it locally in the newspaper.

NOTE: A regular spile can be purchased at a farm supply. These are made to remove, which is far better that the first video's method. The spile has a hook on it for hanging a bucket too. The benefit of his method in the first video is that the maple directly goes into a container and there's little chance of contamination versus the standard open spiles.

[link to www.google.com]

You can of course, make one. See previous postings.

It takes awhile to boil down sap but this is beneficial for it adds a wonderful aroma to your home as well as needed humidity in Winter too.

For a delicious change, add some corn meal and/or wheat germ to your homemade pancakes. This is SO MUCH more delicious than what you're used to eating. It also way boosts the nutrition too.

By the way, if you had some dead wood branches comes down with the windstorm, don't forget you'll need to plant peas soon, and those branches work well for pea brush.
[link to veggiegardenblog.blogspot.com]
[link to gardentherapy.ca]

This is a very good way to train the pea tendrils to cling to what would be waste wood. It's an old school method.

Try sugar snap peas so you can eat the pea pods and so boost the nutrition. Picking frequently causes a much higher yield with this method, so you can add them to salads as well as sandwiches and stir fry too.

Peas are traditionally the first to be planted once frost allows it, and are very simple crops. Listen to what he says. He's discussing succession planting. Don't plant all your peas on the same day, but spread it out. By doing so, you extend the harvest and also make it easier to harvest them as you need them in the kitchen. This makes far more sense.

[link to www.the-compost-gardener.com]
The great benefit to growing peas besides the early harvest, the beautiful flowers, the whole delicious pea pod, the ease for a beginner gardener, is that peas are legumes and they fix nitrogen in the soil, and so you're making your soil better each time you do this.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
How to confess your sins and be forgiven of your past.

Many of us say general confessions of sins and prayers of forgivenss. I urge you to actually read this list and check off the ones you have done, and write down how you sinned briefly, and then to carefully pray to be forgive for that sin, then stop doing it.

[link to www.wogim.org]

Our sins are numerous. We forget what we did. We make excuses. We brush off our sins and ignore them.

Stop doing that. This is the most important prep you can do for you and your family. Teach them how to confess their sins and to ask Jesus for forgiveness. Then having been cleansed by His blood on the cross, then you may breathe and feel relief from those burdens. It is far better to do this, than to say a general quick one minute prayer.

For especially notorious sins, many times to help us deal with it, if you trust a pastor very much, then not only asking for him to pray with you, but also asking to do some good deed as well, so you will not only be forgiven but also pay back God for your sins.

This is very empowering, for then instead of focusing upon your forgiven sin, as Satan wishes to remind you over and over, instead having given your sins and laying them at the foot of God's Throne, then you can feel the enormous connection of God's forgiveness, and boldly ask for God's Presence in your life. Then there's no shame, only love and unity.
[link to www.new-testament-christian.com]
Psalm 51 is very powerful and is one way to pray during the forgiveness.

Psalm 51, "Be gracious to me, oh God, according to they loving kindness, according to the greatness of thy compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin, for I know my transgressions and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only I have sinned and done what is evil in thy sight so that thou art justified when thou doest speak and blameless when thou doest judge. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin my mother conceived me. Behold, thou doest desire truth in the innermost being and in the hidden part, thou wilt make me no wisdom. Purify me with hyssop and I shall be clean. Wash me and I shall be whiter then snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness. Let the bones which thou has broken rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, oh God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from they presence and do not take thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of thy salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors thy ways and sinners will be converted to thee. Deliver me from blood guiltiness, oh God, thou God of my salvation. Then my tongue will joyfully sing of thy righteousness. Oh, Lord, open my lips that my mouth may declare thy praise for thou doest not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it. Thou art not pleased with burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit and a broken and contrite heart, oh God, thou wilt not despise. By thy favor do good to Zion. Build the walls of Jerusalem. Then thou wilt delight in righteous sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offering. Then young bulls will be offered on thine altar."

Remember, always pray in Jesus' Name at the end of your prayers.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
Iron overdose in children

Because I just posted something related on another topic, I wanted to post a potential danger for parents to watch for. Many of you have children, and so you probably give your little ones children's chewable vitamins. You should know that iron overdose is a major concern as it's the most likely cause of toxicity in kids under 6. They associate the vitamin as candy, so always place them out of reach and NOT on the breakfast table.

[link to emedicine.medscape.com]
"Iron overdose has been one of the leading causes of death caused by toxicological agents in children younger than 6 years. Iron is used as a pediatric or prenatal vitamin supplement and for treatment of anemia. Iron is particularly tempting to young children because it appears similar to candy. Patients with anemias that require frequent blood transfusions also are at risk for developing chronic iron toxicity."

If your child is a hemophiliac, then because they take blood products, then you have to be very careful about their iron levels because they can get iron overload easily. That fact is discussed over and over in grad school, but can be forgetten in an emergency as people are scurrying around trying to figure out what's going on with a medically fragile child's dying on them.

If your child suddenly gets very hyperactive when it's not their normal behavior, quickly look and see if they ate a whole bottle of vitamins and RUSH them to the hospital with the container so they can give an antidote. Taking the container, they can estimate the amount ingested and dosage.

"Falstaff: To die is to be a counterfeit, for he is but the counterfeit of a man who hath not the life of a man; but to counterfeit dying, when a man thereby liveth, is to be no counterfeit, but the true and perfect image of life indeed. The better part of valor is discretion, in the which better part I have sav'd my life."
Henry The Fourth, Part 1 Act 5, scene 4, 115–121

Be discreet. It's the prepper's motto. It makes no sense to reveal personal details in an internet forum, especially regarding your supplies, your location, your weaponry, etc.

A shill could come along, incite people to making outrageous statements with chest-thumping, and then sincere but foolish people will chime in their intentions to do unwise things in a public forum. DUMB DUMB DUMB.

Thanks for posting that. A good way is simply to scout rummage sales, at least that works in my region. There are often tools available for 10 % of their cost, mostly because they belonged to someone's grandparents and the current owner doesn't know what they are. This is always the least expensive way to find them. Sometimes you find them online, but they're heavy.

Here you can find a handrill for $15-50 in a hardware store, but check to see that it will hold up. Many are made in China and are poorly fashioned. There's no sense in buying junk tools. Better to buy some antique that only needs some tender loving care and lubrication.

Here's a post detailing what bugging out sheep might do as they assemble into a Horde.

Note the archaic misuse of "Golden Horde" which was an idea created about the fear of Chinese and Japanese immigrants. It's an ugly term, which wasn't true for Asians historically were model immigrants just as the Irish and Italians. It's roots are from the Mongols during medieval times as they scourged Asia and the Middle East, and might have imposed their will upon Europe.

It is however a well done post detailing plausible places they would go.

It's interesting he came to the same conclusions as I did, particularly that Maine would be an excellent place to bugout to. That is of course the contrarian view, but the most logical one based upoon game animals, pure water, salt from the Ocean, woods, meadows, low population density, etc. Upper state Maine is quite sparse of people, and one could easily blend right into the Wild.

"Not long ago I had an interesting conversation with a friend about what would happen after the balloon goes up. He’s a cool guy who moved out here years ago from California because he thinks that at some point a collapse of some kind is going to happen and he didn’t want to get caught flat footed when it did.

He’d thought long and hard about it and decided that Maine was a good choice of a place to live because it’s less likely to be a destination for the golden horde. For the sake of argument I’ll use this definition for golden horde:"

Here's a pretty good vegan post on the difficulties of taking care of themselves while prepping for their family who are meat eaters.
"As I need a diet based on grains and beans and my garden is in the process of being enlarged, I began buying 25 pound bags of winter wheat, oats, buckwheat, white rice and brown rice several varieties of beans including soy beans for soy milk and tofu. I prefer Almond milk but if TEOTWAWKI happens, Almond milk will not be available. In Arkansas, we cannot buy dry ice for treating storage grains and beans. I layered edible DE in about 6 layers in each 5-gallon tub. The amount is 1 cup per 5 gallon bucket. Buckwheat, brown rice, soy beans, and rolled oats are stored in their bags in the deep freeze to prolong their shelf life. If and when TEOTWAWKI happens, I will not be able to keep the oils in those foods from turning rancid after a while. From some of the literature, I have been told 6 months to a year in storage is all I will probably get with those foods."

An old school account of living during WW2 and coping:
[link to seasonedcitizenprepper.com]

"THE CHRONICLES OF HAROLD
1939-1945

The War Years
Just a history in chronicle form of my life, as I have lived it as near as I can remember after all of these years. Preppers and Survivalists along with any other “back to the earth” types may find it interesting. During the scope of this essay, I will chronicle my life as I lived it including all of the oops and other mistakes I have made over the years and what I done to overcome them. I am a 73 year old male, retired and partially disabled (temporary I hope pending a back operation) and since I am tied to a chair and can’t do much else, I have been lurking, surfing and occasionally posting on the blogs when something comes up that piques my interest an I feel obliged to post an opinion, rebuttal, or here’s how I done it back then. You are free to quote from, post or otherwise use this information in the color it is given, as an essay on how I have lived my life so far."

A very well done overall article on survival strategies:
[link to www.survivalblog.com]
"Having spent a lot of years on military planning staffs, I can't help war-gaming scenarios. In short (as you know well) Course of Action (COA) development is a big part of Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB) and is a fairly reliable way of looking at possibilities and choosing likely sequels, given scenarios. In effect, a way of war-gaming out the future. There are a number of horror scenarios that seem to me to be fairly probable and they keep going around and around in my head as I try to sequence them and assign probabilities to each one. I am haunted by the possible future, an occupational hazard for a professional planner. I sincerely hope our civilization outlives me because it's failure could be truly horrible."

With all the fluff topics lately, I hope y'all are appreciating these posts and applying them. Things are accelerating. As more and more people wake up, more and more supplies are going to purchased. That'll make supplies low and demand high, and that means skyhigh prices. If you're not prepping, only reading this for kicks, you're wasting your time...and mine.

We've seen that now with a HUGE run on guns and ammunition. That's the first wave of prepping. The danger is Joe Blow having that, and no food stocks, for an armed desperate man is no longer a neighbor, but a potential predator.

The situation in North Korea is ramping up. Tensions are high. The North Koreans are desperate, starving, economically destroyed, and yet they have 7x the naval fleet of the South Koreans, twice the tanks, twice the air power, twice the infantry, and they are stone cold hard killers. They are packed into a corner, and invading South Korea is almost a no-lose situtation. For now the USA has a weak president, and South Korea has a lameduck leader. North Korea could easily invade, and that move would have serious repercussions given they have one of the most powerful military forces in the world.

Stop reading garbage, turn off your TV, make very complex strategic plans NOW. Decide precisely how to cope.

The only way the USA can dig out from this Global Depression is WAR. Full SCALE WAR. That means a huge drain on supplies as well and shortages.

For those in the UK and Europe, do some reading about how WW2 affected your grandparents. Ask them about shortages and only making it if they planted gardens and had livestock.

If you can't hunt, fish, and most importantly trap, then how in the world will you get enough food calories to make it? Don't tell me that you'll eat dandelions, because you're talking to a guy that eats wild edibles, and there's no way to get enough calories from leafy greens. It's a long long time until you can harvest cattails, nuts, berries, etc. A lot of animals die during the Winter, and the survivors are lean and hungry. Many are sick and feeble and not suitable for eating.

If you think these posts are valuable, then send me some green karma so I can stay here and keep helping you.

Thread: Pictures of America's youth in the early 20th century when children ran barefott instead of playing X boxes (Page 2)

That's my post in another topic, discussing how my childhood was compared to today's children. I hope you read it. My guess is that many of you had a far different experience, and I'm sad to hear stories of people's struggles and difficulties. I had those too, but much of my life was innocent still.

When the collapse comes, I hope to make a new world, one that's full of safety and security for all children. We've lost a lot this century. There have been enormous technical achievments, but we've become very cold and bitter.

I actually thought in my youth that racism would be gone in my lifetime. I see now worse hate of all people and worse racism and I'm shocked by it.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
The Betrayal of Innocence

What happened to American Civilization? In the 1980's, America entered into a period of constant confrontation with the Soviet Union. And then, as the Soviet block collapsed and freedom spread to the countries within their sphere of influence, America stood alone as the dominant superpower.

We thought we'd won, and we were giddy with it. It was a time of enormous wealth and greed and even though of modest middle class means, we had enough money to provide college educations for our children, purchased bigger homes and cars, and managed to transfer much of our wealth into investments.

The American children from that era, they had no limits to their unquenchable desire. Since their parents were wealthy, the children received greater and greater amounts of consumer items. What once was expensive become commonplace items that offered immediate access to information. Things didn't just have to provide a use, but also became customized and personalized to show status. People wore the labels of their clothing on the outside instead of the inner liner, for a name implied higher value.

They grew easily bored, and needed constant ten second scene changes in the media, a by-product of the MTV generation. They needed that email or text now, not soon or when it was needed, but NOW. More things meant more boredom. Nothing could satisfy that appetite.

An entire generation ate microwaved food and forgot how to grow crops and cook them. They forgot how to start a fire. They didn't even understand the principles or the qualities of wood or the means of ignition. They did understand that a rare fruit, a fine wine, an unusual flavor was stimulating, but damn the cost, for we needed anything to assuage the hunger!

Style was more important that substance. Video images were more important than cinema. A slick magazine was more important than Literature. Art was all but forgotten. Even the music became like artificial mechanized tones totally lacking soul. Remakes became necessary, for creativity was stilted and absent.

It was a betrayal of innocence. A whole generation lost their innocence because they were given everything like spoiled brats.

And then, because of the Internet, what once was taboo, became unlimited. Anyone could easily find any image to immediate titillate. In such an environment, even the most shocking sexual act could become boring in minutes due to being inundated with it.

These are the young people who will be your neighbors for the most part. They literally don't know how to do ANYTHING of value in a collapsed primitive society. They are very smart. Not because they know a lot, for actually they know less than any previous generation despite the immediacy of information. They do have a great capacity to learn, if motivated.

In the immediate aftermath, they will not have much time to adapt. I fear for them.

Read this post, it's a prime example of today's youth:

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1

There are a lot of awful people on GLP who pretend to be Christians and then they lay up heavy burdens on others who are suffering and convince them that they're guilty of sin, and so unredeemable. What nonsense!

God loves you. If you find a topic in which the OP or anyone is condemning you...flee! That kind of false teaching doesn't come from God. It comes from the spawn of Satan.

Example: Greatest I am
Thread: Are divorced Christians condemned to hell?

This person impersonates a Christian, and then you find out that they're not a Christian at all, and condemns people.

Most of the time, they pervert basic doctrines of the Bible and don't know the Bible and then twist what few verses they know. If you keep asking them, many will be reading Gnostic texts that obviously are not in Scripture.

Often they'll speak in many statements of pure profanity in very warped evil statements. It's a clear sign of mental illness or outright evil. They are disturbed.

Don't believe in a bunch of garbage. Yes, it's good for you to understand your beliefs, and also the beliefs of others so you understand them and where they're coming from.

But when someone pretends to be a Christian and then condemns you, that's a lie. It's not found in the Bible.

When Paul and Barnabas found such false prophets they revealed that to the people listening. They didn't want people to be sucked in by these evil people. See Acts 13

This is the only time to let others know it. The rest of the time, we are not to judge people, but to try to help them find God and Jesus. Let God or Jesus be the Judge.

Don't let these folks prey upon the GLP community. One star their topics. Give them red karma. Many of them don't pay and so if we do that, we'll shut them down and prevent much suffering.

Since you need some green karma for ban immunity, or pay, then giving them red karma removes their evil influence.

As a Christian, the thing I most want to do, is share the Gospels with you, the words of Yeshua (Jesus).

As a prepper, I want to give you life skills so you can save yourself when the collapse comes.

I am here as a resource for you to serve you, because I believe that feeding the Sheep of Jesus and tending His Lambs is what Jesus said to do. That implies servanthood.

I won't condemn you. I want you to find love and true joy.
...

Why should we care what Gnostics think? Why is there concern?

All people are free to believe what they want. That's free will, but there's a cost to it.

Read what Gnostic's believe about God and Lucifer. I think you'll be shocked and readily see why it was rejected as heretical. It clearly is!
[link to www.theforbiddenreligion.com]

They depict the God of the Old Testament as an evil being, often called the demiurge. On the other hand, Lucifer is a liberator for Humanity. Talk about getting something assbackwards!

Basically Gnostics serve Satan! They would confuse you into thinking Satan is misunderstood! What rubbish!

In a collapse, folks with Gnostic thought, they could easily confuse the starving with their answers and make what remains a Hell on Earth.

Oppose them! Challenge these false prophets.

Re: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF
Doing a week long dry run to test your abilities and supplies

I know that many of you feel your prepping is adequate. Have you actually tried to live off of your preps? I doubt it.

From many disaster reports, we know of some preppers who thought they were prepared and then once an ice storm, a tornado, a hurricane, etc happened, then they realized, "Nuts! I'm missing _____. I'm running out of ____ faster than I anticipated. Crud, the weather screwed up ____. "

Folks, the only way to test, is to unplug for a week, shut off the water and natural gas and electricity and see how you fare. I bet you'll be shocked at your lack of prepping.

Some prepping in a real disaster will injure themselves. Suddenly they hurt one hand, or sprain an arm, and then they can't keep up. Try chopping wood with one arm. It's possible, but only with practice.

Try walking every day for five miles. Bet you don't make it by day six. You'll be limping most likely because your boots are new and not broken in. Your back will be killing you. The straps will chafe. It's heavier than you imagined.

The kids will eat up some ration and then bellyache. Complaining will drive you insane.

Your wife or husband will be upset that the power is off. Cold showers by the third day suck. You'll feel dirty even if you can wash up. If it's Winter, you'll be cold and have trouble sleeping.

The only way is to test yourselves now, way before a collapse comes, so then having been tested, you'll see your deficits.

The easiest way to test is on a camping trip. There and backpacking, you can't escape your lack of preparedness.
