Anonymous Coward User ID: 8058238 United States 01/05/2012 01:27 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Amazing and Good Stuff!!! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8058238 You should seriously consider writing a small book on these subjects. I would buy it. Shalom... You're welcome and thank you. I don't think we have time for that. I think that things will slowly decline into an economic collapse. I hope people are reading what I am writing and making plans, learning skills, and rolling up their sleeves and trying to replicate them. Imagine if we had one person in each community who would help organize some self-sufficiency workshops and build up those communities? They could facilitate the core people to both prep themselves and they rebuild after the collapse. The only other option is every man for themselves and anarchy. That won't do for a spiritual person. As long as people write thanks here and also provide input, I'll share what little I know. Otherwise I'll stop writing. It's not about my thoughts, it's about saving lives. If it's valuable and people let me know, I'll continue. I'm thinking about writing about preparing the soil. Imagine trying to garden without fertilizers, without soil amendments for ph? How would you test it? How would you till hard clay soil? What sources of humus should you add? When should you add them? What did the pioneers do? What modern technology have we learned that can be applied in old tech ways? Imagine how useful a chemist would be in your tribe? Let's say you need lime to "sweeten" the soil. Where you do get it? What other ways could you sweeten the soil? How do you apply it? Each of these topics only scratches the surface. Many are whole subjects in books. That means doing lots of research on your area and melding book and lore and putting them into practice. After about 6 years of wanting to get out of Los Angeles, YHVH/YaHWeH made an opportunity for us to move to a small town in northern/central Arizona. We were prepared in Los Angeles as well, but it really is nice being as far from any major city as one can be. Part of me feels guilty thinking like this, but the other part knows what is coming down the road. |

RedlicoriceRedux User ID: 1508292 Canada 01/05/2012 10:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As there will not be diapers available if the SHTF, we will all need to learn the ancient ways of looking after babies. First let's learn how to build and use an infant cradleboard. Quoting: RedlicoriceRedux Peat moss can be substituted for diapers and can either be thrown away or washed, dried, and reused. [link to archive.library.nau.edu] Thank you RedlicoriceRedux for sharing wisdom. Passing on ancient lore is one of the greatest gifts there is. I encourage everyone who has tips or has questions or comments to participate so we can keep the old skills alive and utilize all the gifts that the Source provides in creation. |

Teach basic little skills like cooking and sewing. Make sure they understand a compass and map. How to purify water, and identify poisoness plants and animals. How to find shelter, and how to make a fire. Quoting: Whiskey Brother 1381992 Make sure they know how to read, both books and the land. And always tell them you love them and will have their back. Teach them how to find protein in the wild, e.g., fish, frogs, minnows, eggs, birds, squirrel, rabbit... how to make traps for all the above. Test them with a survival weekend where they (and you) must put to practice the skills you teach/they learn. Teach them how to find edible plants, e.g., dandelion, cat-tail, plantain, etc. Teach them how to prepare these and test them with a survival weekend as well. Make a meal in the woods today -- you get to bring with you the following: a) knife b) axe c) twine d) magnifying glass e) 2 matches You must feed 2 people; your meal must be at least 600 calories total. You have two hours to gather food; 1 hour to prepare food; 1 hour to cook food. Bonus points awarded based on a well-balanced meal: meat, vegetable, fruit. If you can't do this, then you are not going to teach it; in fact, you are going to die when the just-in-time food distribution network ceases. |
