Simply trying to be optimistic about possibilities to restore civilization.

There are things that are worth salvaging, preserving in the first place. Later it may not be possible to make these devices for a long time.

Interesting properties of absorption refrigerator (provides freezing temperatures and ice production) and RTG are that you can use any source of heat. Simple candles, oil lamp instead of gas candle can be sufficient. Thin wood fire. There are solar versions of it.

It can be made using parabolic mirror with a set of modifications. Heat must be transferred from focal point to the inside of a pipe where burner was located. Hot air or solid metal heat transfer can be used.

Agreed. After the collapse, since many people will have died, the survivors will be looking for leadership in technical areas. Those who can harvest from pre-existing supplies and understand maintenance and operation and engineering will be able to cope. Then we can teach people to become techs and get some small scale refrigeration back up.

If many people die, then the land and sea will support high levels of growth over time.
