Piracetam also seems to inhibit brain damage caused by a variety of factors including hypoxia and excessive alcohol consumption.[7][8] Piracetam has been studied in an extensive number of clinical experiments, and has shown positive results in the treatment of post-stroke aphasia, epilepsy, cognitive decline following heart and brain surgery, dementia,[6] and myoclonus.[9][10] Its peripheral vascular effect has indicated its use for vertigo, dyslexia, and sickle cell anemia as well.[4] Piracetam possesses pronounced antihypoxic and antiarrhythmic effect; the latter is carried out by decreasing the rhythm rate and increasing the contraction amplitude. The animals treated with piracetam in a dose when its antiarrhythmic effects (300 mg/kg) exhibited a decrease of the membrane potential of erythrocytes as compared with control. Similar effects occurred in the animals treated with lidocaine. It can be concluded that in certain types of arrhythmias the use of piracetam restores the normal rhythm of contractions that is perhaps connected with its positive influence on metabolic processes in the myocardium.[11] Piracetam appears to increase communication between the two hemispheres of the brain, and increases activity of the corpus callosum.[12][13] [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

Ginkgo biloba—Highly effective at promoting cerebral circulation, which in turn supports memory. 2. Huperzine A—Helps block an enzyme that destroys acetylcholine, which is a neurotransmitter that plays a key role in the formation of short-term memory. Huperzine A is derived from a club moss that has been used for centuries in Chinese medicine. 3. Phosphatidylserine—Plays a major role in maintaining the integrity and fluidity of cell membranes, which keeps the brain working at maximum speed. 4. Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids—The lining of the brain and the outer membranes of neurons are comprised of Omega-3 fatty acids. Nourishing your brain with Omega-3 EFAs from food or supplements helps maintain their structure and integrity. 5. Vitamin B Complex—Researchers find that keeping homocysteine levels in the healthy range not only benefits cardiovascular health, but it largely influences brain health, too. There is no better combination than B-6, B-12, and Folic Acid for accomplishing this goal. 6. Vitamin E—Since the majority of the brain is comprised of fat, this fat-soluble antioxidant works wonders to protect it. 7. NADH—As a coenzyme, NADH plays a key role in the energy production of our cells and neurotransmitter processes. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1417778Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything by Joshua Foer He asked about lost memories, though that book is good for finding a method for memorization I must admit. No, I meant lost knowledge as in ancient methods (i.e. Chinese, Native, etc) for improving memory function. I was not necessarily talking about retrieving old memories but any replies are appreciated. |

Everyone needs to unclog their lymphatic systems. Fruit is alkaline. Most other foods are acidic. The acidic substances we put in our bodies cause havoc and end up backing up the lymph system. This affects everything, including memory function. |

It is also an effective treatment for Alzheimer's Disease. From an invitation to subscribe to Dr. Williams' Health newsletter: "You can feel the effects of niacinamide faster than any vitamin you can put in your mouth---very often within 15 minutes...less fatigue and a greater working capacity within a half an hour." About 3 patients out of 10 will experience more muscle strength in that brief period of time." The vitamin is B3, niacinamide. Given in high enough doses, it restores memory. Experiments on mice (closest thing to human physiology): "mice reacted as normal mice without Alzheimers." It took 4 months to clear the brain, but all was restored. Megadoses of between 2,000 and 20,000 mg per day is harmless. It has to be taken several times a day because no matter how much is taken at breakfast, it will be gone out of the bloodstream by lunch. Taking at least 5,000 mg of niacinamide, divided in many doses, works. It takes about 4 months to effect healing and recuperation. No side effects! If that doesn't work, increase the dose. Scarey is that younger people, 30-50, are coming down with Alzheimer's now. Maybe we should all add niacinamide to our diets because it improves memory and prevents the onslaught of AD. Williams writes that by the time we reach 85, 47% will have Alzheimers! . |
EARTHLING? User ID: 1498456 United States 08/08/2011 02:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Kevin Trudeu sells a Mega Memory program. I found it to be amazingly helpful. I can remember a list of 100 items and call them back forwards or backwards and you can give me a number and I can tell you the item. Trudeu talks about diet in the program. Work the mind and the mind will improve. Also, older books by Harry Loraine 1970's or '80's. Back in Socrates day they taught children to alphabetize and create a file for each letter. They would visualize walking into their 'storage room' and open the correct file and store the information. Memory is about retrieval. We all have everything stored. The best of all is the Silva Method of Mind control. There are seminars around the country. Easily worth the price--whatever it is. I did not take a seminar but I read the book and did the exercises. A superior memory will become increasingly important as things unfold. You can learn to memorize maps, formulas, names, and data. Like everything that is worthwhile it takes time and effort; however anyone with a reasonable IQ can do the exercises and impress and amaze your friends. Nightingale Conant has a lot of self improvement programs. Don't stop at memory improvement, you can also learn Speed Reading, Mega Math, Five Minutes a Day to Perfect Spelling and other useful brain improvement things. These days Speed Reading and retention is very important. Can't read everything I need to at the old American School Speed. That is all. |
