Awesome! I've never read the Adept series, but I'm sad he capped off the Mode series so soon. Of course, Xanth won't die until Piers does, lol.

I used to real a novel per day from the age of 12 to 25 now I only read good authors, if you read enough fiction or even non ficton you eventually become discerning.

Yeah, there's a few more I'd add, and Asimov is right up there. I read heaps of the old-style sci-fi, pre-Heinlein I call it - with E.E. 'Doc' Smith, Eando Binder, Moorcock and let us not forget Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Speaking of sci-fi, back in the 80's, I was surprised to learn that L. Ron Hubbard was also a sci-fi writer. So I obtained his 10-series series, and his more popular "Battlefield Earth". Now don't get me wrong, I am NOT a fan of Scientology as it became after the exodus in the 70s - but it is very clear that Hubbard KNEW lots of what was going on, including the off-planet stuff. It is clear that his sci-fi books were him trying to tell what he knew about the 'big picture' - and I gotta say - I was/am impressed at the depth of his intel.

He definitely knew the stuff that Bruce Cathie independently uncovered (from an entirely unexpected line of research I might add), especially about the harmonics of time. It was this very factor that was the big secret of the technology of the ruling alien race in "Battlefield Earth".

L.ron was one of my school teachers favs he lent me his decology which is quite humor based and battlefield earth was one of his favs also the bad guy always said sweeten the lie with a little truth,
my buddy put me on to bruce cathy when he was doing his PHD in sydney his phd is "the physics of the acoustic guitar" very sweet, another friend is a masive doc smith fan. doc was also insightful, british scientists cruising in space smoking pipes and cigars, nasa never had that kind of style,
the first moorcock I read was the elric ones but have read a lot of the others,
I've studied to the highest degree in evey science field I can find but deliberatly hold no qualifications beyond 7th form high school and also have no debt what so ever. A person can get a very full education if you don't want to hold a qualification an you are also free to disagree with orthodoxy.
my friend is a colector of rare text books and a tesla fan and has some beauties that many think were destroyed in the WWII bombings, a good one is from 1954 by the guy that ran the radar for the britts during WWII. what he says is in total opposition to what conventional science says about how radar waves are carried, he also refernces in 1954 they were already using finer waves lenghts pointed at building to see everything inside buildings not to many copies of that around I supose.
The aussie navy (about 2004) also did a termite study to see how to convert the data into usable readable info on hollow spaces.(they studied how termites work out internal spaces of wood with the vibrations of their pinchers.
I followed the works of john keely, way ahead of his time and also believe vibration physics is the only true physics hence the cover up of it. I don't believe in mass it is a fiction everything is made from patterns of elecromagnetic light (hard holograms)phi is also very import with respect the proportions of energy to each other, and believe in the electric universe theories. I have been a musician since 12 years of age and understand the vibrations and why prime number vibrations are so important possibly the very pillars of reality. I might post you my work on the fabric of reality to look over for your personal enjoyment, I will post it on this site some time but few would be interested or possibly understand it.
In my hometown of westport there used to be only ten copies of you mag come to my town in the early days, now it is good to see it everywhere.
my brother worked at the local petrol station many years later and said alot of people traveling on the buses would buy your mag as it had so much info vs ads and was considered a good read.
Where I currently live sometimes at night 2.30am in the morning you can see them testing craft from pinegap low on the horizon over the tasman. I was an airport worker for 3.5 years and recognise the yellow conventional flashing lights of the mil jets as they try to track and chase the much faster less conventional craft that like to buzz them on the same tracks.
there are many unconventional people on the westcoast that have science defying electric devices (free electrons from waterfalls and the like.)

Read Proxy by Morgan Price first thing. I can't recommend that book enough. First in the series.

I'm reading "The Builder" now, from P.D. Chance, also good (so far, about six chapters in. Decent sized book but it reads nicely. Smooth.)

All new works. Yeah, new authors too, but some of the best stuff I've read in a while.

I'm surprised that Split Infinity is getting a movie. My guess, and I read the books and liked them, is that it will fail horribly OR be pulled before it hits theaters.

That won't be Piers' fault, but the story is too complex for a two hour film. It needs at least a series, which wouldn't work either, because it's to complex for most audiences now.

If you ever get a chance to meet him, ask Larry Niven (cool guy) about L. Ron at the 68 world con. That's an eye opener there!

Larrys books are very good I also like his collaborative works with jerry pournelle (didn't know until more recently that he worked for JPL, rods from god eh)
FOOTFALL is my favourite.
The ring world books were fun also but gavity belts won't work there but thats another book and another author. I agree they will cut Peirs' book to shreads to make the movie, might end up like the I, Robot movie (what the hell)

RED MARS BLUE MARS GREEN MARS is interesting but the space elevator is a bust,conductive carbon nanotubes would conduct the negative charge from the upper atmosphere to the positively charged ground ( which we sometimes call zero but it is not, it is such a large number that we can't change it easily so we referance it as zero) can you imagine the meeting of such large charges at once might fry the planet.
Protector by larry was also a good quick read ( who would have thought you take out a spaceship with a bullet and a neutron star good thinking larry)

I thought about adding other authors to the list, but you guys did that for me.

I remember Ringworld from Niven, and I've read at least something from the other authors listed.

Piers isn't dead, he just mostly writes in a different genre now (porn).

I agree a Split Infinity movie would be challenging, but I think it could be done well. No way the nuances of the story could be addressed properly in 90 minutes, but the gist of it could.

It could make a good 2-parter.

And Nexus, is this the same Nexus Magazine from the late 1980's I used to read? If so, thank you.

Have you ever noticed that very short fiction and comic books tend to make decent movies, but that books are far harder?

OK, I'm a book fan by nature, but I think that having series made out of them works a lot better in the long run.

True Blood, from the Sookie Stackhouse novels is a good example. Not in how closely they follow the books, but in how well they flesh out the characters. You couldn't do any of those books as a movie.

Awesome I've always thought they should make movies out of most of Piers Anthony books. I've been reading his books for over 30 years. Would also like to see some of Niven's books done as well. I think Anne McCaffrey's books would do well as movies. I believe Terry Brooks' Landover novels would be good to.

i really enjoyed the Incarnations of Immortality series

in fact i might have to re-buy them and re-read them.
