anyone in western canada interested in getting off the grid with me(british columbia boonies)?
seeking like minded individual(s) to get off the grid, men or women, im a hardworking 30 year old male with vision and passion and determined to live like a free man off the grid like a warrior poet. whos with me? any of you city slickers from calgary or vancouver or anywhere else inbetween sick of the slave system? im not rich myself, so it would be cool if you were in the same boat so we could work together and have a great time doing it. i want a awesome garden and a greenhouse, possibly a couple yurts to start and maybe a log cabin down the road. also want a aquaponic operation up and running at some point, animals, chickens and goats, dogs and cats..

I raised my kids in a yurt (she was 5-8, he was 1-4) for 3+ years...good luck finding a place to put up yurts. Try up south and north of town Powell River. They still don't have building codes. hell, I want to do a project in the middle of fucking nowhere on nelson island and I have to deal with Sechelt...Sechelt building codes on an island with a population of what 30?

With no money, you are kind of screwed. Also, most communities do not want stray young men...specially those with no money! Try getting a 25' sailboat and learning to sail/cruise to different spots. Boaters have a different savvy and are more acceptable as single young men. You can moor in various places pretty much for free once you get to know people and only have to pay for your diesel to keep you gennie running.

Uhm maybe. It depends how it plays out. I'm only 17 but I'm going out of the city when the SHTF.. Unless we make a self reliable community, there is no hope with just a few peeps.

tough call, my advice stay between 100mile house and prince george. Winter is way to long north of PG. Maybe west of Williams lake, nice country, low population, warm enough to grow produce and cattle. Fair warning though you'll still need to prepare for winter. Good luck.

if you cant buy land and put up a yurt because of building codes in bc then i plan on buying cheap land with a small houes or cabin on the property and possibly putting up a yurt or 2

when i think about heading West deep into a Mountain refuge, I always get concerned about several things.

It's harsh climate in unpopulated areas.
The perilous risk of avalanches.
And unless there is total breakdown in civil order, the need to posess and utilize legal firearms for hunting and protection from wild beasts. Which requires a permit and hunting licence, and then you still have to hunt in season as per the rules, not to mention bag limits.
The same goes for fish. You just can't run amok and hope to get away with shit like that perpetually while society still continues.
Unless you have located some isolated shangrala untouched and unclaimed, and I don't even think you can squat on crown land which if im not mistaken has rules about habitation and time limits for camping.

heres a simple example i found first hit from goog search
sorry it has neetflicks pop up add

so your looking at purchasing a land parcel that is large enough to be sustainable for subsistance and also a dwelling or construct one.

And you better work out a diet and how to maintain vital nutrients in advance. And your sitll going to need consumer products or face imminent unnecessary shortening of your lifespan.
Not to mention that you will need to know skinning and tanning when your clothes and boots wear out, unless you plan on running around in a grass skirt.

this,

op obviously isnt talking about 'squating on crown land'

avalanches? ROFL, are you fucking kidding me? you must live in the city! not many people set up camp at the bottom of a fucking mountain!

also it's legal to squat in BC, idiot, you can camp anywhere, as long as you move your camp every 7 days, and out in the boonies, no one gives a fuck and wont even notice you. in the boonies you can hunt and fish as much as you want cause theres not a cop or parks warden for 3 hours drive, you city people are so retarded

also interior bc has probably the warmest most temperate climate in canada, and some of the most fertile soil in the world for growing food, you can grow food year round with a greehouse, idiot!
