What I've seen:

You end up in a Trailer park swimming in empty mountain dew bottles/cans and ordering pizza every night, because you're housebound and cannot shop.

The inside of your trailer smells of sweat and bottles of urine. Nobody wants to know you because you are bitter and with the bad smell. Besides, you can't leave your trailer anyway.
I'm not too fond of Signatures. Why would I want to end every post the same way?

You do know that every time you get a pay check alot of money is taken out, and this is put toward yours and everybody's elses benefits. So up until someone became disable they were having money taken each payday. So, no its' not a free ride. Besides being disable isn't something one aspires to become.

Most on SSI are actors. They are paid for being morbidly obese, alcoholics, drug addicts, playing uneducated, pretending they have mental issues, all sorts of reasons. Simply put on a good acting job and live for free.

There are more of them than there are cash assistance recipients (who work for their cash and get half of what SSI recipients receive).

Re: do those on disability, get a free ride through life?
I worked fulltime since age 18, for 38 years, worked while pregnant, worked while breastfeeding, etc. and never took any kind of gov't aid until I had a stroke 2 years ago, leaving my left side damaged and some nasty brain damage (it takes forever to write and proofread a post). It took 3 years and an attornory and 3 doctors including a state psychiatrist to confirm I am disabled, and during that time, since I live alone, I used up all savings, used cash advances on my credit cards to pay rent and utilities, borrowed from family but they are all struggling financially too.

When I was finally approved it was for $813. a month. My rent is $950. and that's for a tiny apartment. They sent $2450. retroactive money but by then my credit card was over $7000., which previously never carried a balance. After being on disability for 2 years I finally qualified for Medicare, for which they take $110. out of the disability payment.

I have to be reevaluated every 3 years to be sure I am still considered disabled.

Thank God they allow me to work and earn up to $700. a month, I was able to find a part-time job but the hours are variable and some months much less, very hard for me physically but necessary. I had to sell my car to pay bills about 6 months ago, one of my kids gave me an old beater car to get to doctor appts with.

I see tons of neighbors and others claiming disability who drive brand-new vehicles and wear designer clothes and smoke 2 packs of cigs a day and drink and smoke pot and have new tattoos every week, I am clueless how they do it unless they are lying. As for me, without my family giving me food out of their gardens and my elderly mother paying for my car insurance last month, I would be homeless. I would qualify for HUD housing but the list is 6 years long and in very scary neighborhoods if you are white. :-(

It depends on the level of disability. Some haul in more per month than I do and get free medical and food stamps to boot, not to mention housing assistance. Others don't bring in as much.

I know a married couple who are both on disability - she legitimately, he......I question whether he should be on it as he seems to claim back problems which don't seem to prevent him from engaging in rigorous hobbies yet somehow prevent him from holding a job. The wife could work, but would never be able to hold down a real job as she's in and out of the hospital a lot. Anyway, together they are only bringing in about $1600/mo, no housing assistance (they live with family) and no food stamps. They do get medical, though.

The biggest crock of chit is a person on disability can also draw a 2nd disability check for their kids even if there is nothing wrong with the kid.

I agree about the SSI to an extent, I know one person of my 40 years on earth who I think doesn't truly need it. She gets medicade, food stamps and ssi. She parties damn near every night, able to work and doesn't. She isn't a friend nor do i run around with her, have heard they cut all of her funding though. So I don't know her current situation.

Top that off, her daddy pays her rent.

i]t's unfortunate but true, the bulk of the disabled are born with some form of mental retardation, congenital birth defects, etc.. these people often live in state controlled group homes, and the majority of their pittance of a disablity check goes toward the mortgage of the house they live in, the electricity/water bill, groceries, prescription copays, and of course the wages of the people who care for them. what's leftover isn't much, and is put towards cheap clothing, cheap food(mcd's), and cheap entertainment(dollar videos from walmart). i've seen firsthand what someone has for "spending money" and it has been less than $20 for the whole month. not everyone on disablity chooses to be on it, and not everybody who receives it gets really enjoy life.

Hi C this is one of "those threads" Started by some people in the lower freqs. There is no use in debating them.

I will say I am on SSDI.I am very fit.My home very clean. My diet and lifetyle I am grateful for. There is not a day That I do not fight hard to get my health back.Or a day,I do not try and improve. We are living is very special times. There is no use in threads that attack the injured, disabled,or elderly.I wont read what people think about people who have had issues.

I worked a 90 hour week for 18 years as a trucker, when a car cut me off.I sacrifised my health to avoid hitting a car with a family in it and this made the front page, saying I was a hero.

I choose to bash the wars.needless wastes of money.that is the issue, not what is in this thread.sleeping with there eyes wide open

How about those who out the extra income in things like monatomic gold, two silver coins to make medicine, herbals for health.Just because your disabled, does not mean you give up.many do not.many spend every second of everyday rehabing. Its not easy to get SSDI.You need a medical history that verifies in detail your disabilty,Mines is a brain injury.I cant remember lots, are understand complex posts.ect.But I just narrow my mind to the essentials. Its like the brain is a 8 lane highway.I have two lanes open.No one would ever guess I have a TBI.Many soldiers will have to go through what I have.I started with my pituatary gland, once I got that fixed,on my own btw. Most doctors are in the bussiness of keeping you ill for profit..Then next,to flood my system with oxigen.By increasing my red blood cell count.Lotsa hard core cardio.Bike riding.I can go on and on.Its been a tough ride. Not to be in ego.My 21 year old son wanted to race me on a bike up a hill,he is very much inshape. But I still beat him despite being 13ish weeks post up.I rode 100 thousand miles and still counting.

And what does it say about the big pharma prostitutes that diagnose these types so they can sell them drugs and make easy money for both people?

Is $600/month too much to be living on? I bet the vast majority of you lazy fucks wouldn't be ABLE to live on that little without making MAJOR LIFESTYLE CHANGES.

Besides, we don't have real money in this country any way, and because we can't pay any bills because we don't have any real money to do so with, the government said they would pay the bills since they took all the gold with which to do so. So it's fine, people receiving disability are simply holding the government to its word.

It's the ones on disability that continue to have them and have them for the purpose of the income that I'm talking about. Mostly the ones getting crazy checks. You know the type I'm talking about. I'm talking about the ones the people on disability that shouldn't be on it at all.

Uh, no? Depending on the severity of the condition they might have problems driving to and from work, walking to the bus, lifting boxes, even sitting at a keyboard all day can be very bad for people with back problems. An office would have to make lots of allowances, and most of them aren't prepared to do that when there are so many able-bodied people looking for work.

A physical performed by a doctor is the deciding factor for my father being disabled. He lives a normal life just as any person but has restrictions to not do physical labor. And as for how much, I've never heard of anything over $1,700. All you little pricks who think the disabled just skip along through life on a free ride you're dead wrong. Maybe one day one of your family members will become disabled and you will find out how much it is needed.

Actually some can.some are so medicated that they wouldnt be able to function. One more point,is those with true back injuries, just sitting in a chair all day could cause extreme pain.they way to deal with a back injury,is to be active, not inactive.I would hope you never have a back issue.I can tell you, that I have had two back surgeries, and there is no way I could ever sit in a chair all day.I can ride a recumbent bike,a regular bike.So to answer your question, maybe, but maybe not.I have a friend, who cant work, sitting because it causes her more pain.she is not obese at all,in fact very much in shape.

This is a sensitive issue.

There are those on disability who truly qualify for the benefits. But they sure as hell don't get a "free ride." If one legitamely qualifies, they are bound to have issues that affect their QUALITY of life. As in, life can really suck.

I deeply resent people who take advantage of disability benefits, and has been mentioned before, fake it.

They get a free ride but at a very high cost. They basically have to trade their soul for a paycheck. They can never look themselves in the eye again and have to go through life pretending they are in a lot worse shape than they really are. I met someone like that today, he was one of the most negative draining people I've ever met.

It's not a free ride. There's doctors appointments, rehab, social workers and many other things that you have to do while you get better (employers are very picky in this market) so it's difficult to make provisions to do all this stuff.

And you live well below the poverty line..
