TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930’s 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930’s 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s !!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank koolade made with sugar, but we weren’t overweight because WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING !

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day and we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo’s, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD’s, no surround-sound or CD’s, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms…….

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them . . . CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as
kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good

And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn’t it?!

So true, I myself are very grateful to be born at that time, I also recall doing a lot of that bare foot, no needles in the parks, and as for the billy carts, we had large hills, and no brakes, only one speed fast, and to stop, mount the kerb to slow down on the grass and watch out for the big trees. Those were the days, plenty of bark (skin) left on the road. Then there was summer holidays, walk to the beach and bake in the sun all day. Loved every bit.hfhf eyebat

Now for the 80's and 90' children

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked pot and shot herroin while they were pregnant.

They took speed, ate acid trips, and sniffed paint from a can, and got tested for every imaginable disease.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our backs and developed a flat spot on our heads, we were covered with highly flamable clothing that was made in china.

We were often overdosed with medicines, locked behind doors and in cabinets, and when we rode our bikes, the police would often harass us for minor infringements.

As infants & children, we would be left in our cars while mum did the shopping.

Actually going into the shops with mum on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water doused with flouride and NEVER from a fresh source.

We couldn't share one soft drink with our friends from one bottle because of ADHD. (we werent allowed softdrinks).

We ate chips and lollies and margerine and drank sugar through a straw, and we were overweight because WE WERE NEVER ALLOWED OUTSIDE BECAUSE OF STRANGER DANGER!

We would stay home in the morning and play in our yards as long as we did not go out past the streetlights.

We were always in earshot of our parents.

We would spend hours dreaming of what it would be like to build go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill.

We had atari's, and nintendo's with every video game imaginable, we never got to watch t.v. cause mum and dad would always watch it.

We never had real friends cause all they wanted from you was to play your nintendo.

We were never allowed to climb trees, get a cut, break a bone or teeth and if we did there were lawsuits from these accidents.

We werent allowed to play with worms or mud.

We were given school supplies for our 10th birthdays, played board games that the generation before us thought was cool.

We had to go through our parents before we could communicate with other children.

Little league had tryouts and not everyone made the team because most were overweight. Those who didnt had to learn to deal with being fat. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was heard of quite regularly. The cops were often thought of as the actual criminals.

These generations havent really produced all that much, because we were never allowed to do anything.

The past 20 years have been a fizzle of fear and laziness.

We had no freedom, mass failure, little success and responsibility, and we got dummed down.

HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them . . . CONGRATULATIONS!

You beat suicide against all the odds.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with a kitchen knife, doesn’t it?!

Oh you must be so proud of all the stuff you got to do as a kid!

And then you grew up and ruined the United States of America . . .hmmm who do you think voted on those politically correct laws? It's not the kids born in the 80s and 90s, it's their parents and grandparents.

It's you.
