I originally thought this would be great to get some good sources for a self-made html 'active wallpaper' type of screen for my 2 monitor setup. (Something that was done, oh... I dunno... 16-18 years ago maybe? so.. not new, I know.)

But I've thought about re-doing another. The hardest part seemed to be getting all the "cool" sources -- the funnest part was putting it together.

With the data in this thread, that suddenly makes this much more viable and easier to do. (Yay!)

I see the merits in using the Opera "speed-dial" method, it's quick, it's easy. You can dbl-click (or hotkey) an icon and *POOF!* There it all is when you want to see it. When you don't want it, or don't want to scare peeping neighbors/family/visitors, you can just simply close it.

My way would require going through the UI to change your desktop wallpaper each time. Meh. Tomayto/tomahto.

Ultimately, I'd have a 3x3, 6x6, or some mix of a "grid" as my wallpaper with live feeds of various things. The catch is, if doing this as wallpaper, the space is limited so you need to be picky about what you display.

There are TONS of links on this thread now and it seems now I gotta go figure out wtf is the most important site of the most important piece of data I want to watch. (New thread?)

Anyway, if I ever get it done, I'll come back and share.
