Quoting: Easy AcresI dont disagree with you, but what changed? if you agree with the assessment that muusic is totally uninspiring these days as compared to the past decades...what happened? is it a direct reflection of subprime mortgages or something reflecting our societal maladities? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1508576wrong why above...meant why to your post that hip hop killed music? Hip Hop is being played instead of good quality music. It is not music but just monotonous noise. That is how music is killed by replacing it with noise/Hip Hop. |

Wiki explains it best in detail here; [link to en.wikipedia.org] Personally (Im 49) I listen to the radio a lot and prefer the popular songs...my 6 year old daughter and 19 yr old son play music too....so its catchy. I dont actually like the older stuff much unless alone, inebriated and thinking about my youth. If I go to a "grab a granny night" and the DJ or bands plays Elvis or any stuff earlier than a few years ago I tend to wince and remove myself from the embarrassing noise. I also find that I love new versions, remixes or covers of old songs. AT first I used to think HEY! the old song was great how dare they muck about with it BUT after listening to the new version and then the older one....I could see how much better they really are. Nirvana? really? Hmmm. Pumpkins? ehhhh-(wiggles hand) REM? Pffft. These bands had one thing in common- master drummers. Any slob can bash a kit, but a master can turn a madiocre band into a ferocious rock machine. Listen to Nirvana's Bleach (sans Dave)and tell me that is the same band as Nevermind. As for the Pumpkins, well, Gish is a masterpiece of an album, but once Jimmy became a junkie, that was all she wrote. You want to hear the scary new thing, check out the drummers. Just to play is a cover band you need mad skillz- the bar has been raised to an intimidating height by kids who grew up on bands like Slayer, Metallica, Maiden, Chilli Peppers and Tool. The jazz greats of yesteryear got nothin on these kids. It is all technique and speed and precision now. Bonham wouldnt stand a chance, and as for Charlie Watts- fuck Charlie Watts, it's embarrassing how lame that guy was. Hendrix and Mitchell? Fucking awesome. Hendrix and Cox? not so much... Nowadays, drummers are the only guys really working onstage anyway... |
