Is the opportunity cost not greater than the savings?

Not at all,

For instance, many stores are within 1 mile driving distances and I get the coupon circulars from family/friends and picking them up from neighbors and when they are thrown on the property of foreclosed homes.

Coupon doubling is not the only method of saving, you could also stack manufacturer and d/or with store coupons and with store deals. I recommend that you begin with drug stores such as CVS, Rite Aid or Walgreens.

Re: Im a Extreme Couponer...Ask Me A Question?
People often say that using coupons allows one to buy the expensive name brands for less money than the store brands. Time and time again this is proven to be bogus. Why do couponers continue to propogate this lie? I get the idea that couponing has an element of competition to it, breeding lies about the savings. Store brands are so much cheaper sometimes that no coupon will make a difference in the average store where double coupons are severely restricted these days.

Also, why is your time worthless? I'll be damned if I spend X amount of hours in my lifetime for couponing.

Yes and No...for example I picked up today 12 packs of Chinet Napkins (90 count) for 7cents each.

Regular price is 1.07$ each and the store brand is $1 each

Also, contrary to the belief that one must spend hours a day is non-sense...I read a few websites and spend a half hour clipping and planning for each store that I plan to visit.

The TLC show is not couponing..that is the real extreme side and does not reflect how the average extreme couponer shops.

We tried that and Walmart wouldn't accept more than one coupon per product. Are you using one manufacture and one store coupon?

Yes, you can only use 1 manufacturer coupon on 1 item. You can also use 1 Manufacturer and 1 store on 1 item.

I don't usually shop Walmart, you should try the local grocery store or if you are new then begin with the drug store (CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens)...this will get you into the hang of how everything works. Let me know what stores are near to you and I will post a link and easy to understand how the maximize the savings.

Why don't you just use cloth napkins? The initial outlay may be a little more, but they will last for years and end up costing way less, both out of your pocket and out of the earth.

The problem I have with coupons is that they're rarely anything I want to buy. I don't buy soda, I don't buy Lunchettes, I don't buy frozen veggies, I don't buy candy.

I recommedn visiting the Krazy Coupon Lady youtube site:

[link to www.youtube.com]

and her website is:

[link to thekrazycouponlady.com]

Watch her how-to's, especially on the drug store..

Once you get started, you will never shop the same way again...all it took me was two shopping trips at CVS and I was off. I took me three months to acquire a HUGE stockpile for myself and my family, I also donate and give away to others....and the best part is that it didn't cost me much.

The main purpose is to offset your cost for the money you will be spending on produce (if you are not growing anything) and most meat products. i sure you will need laundry products, paper goods, toiletries, vitamins, personal care items etc.

Re: Im a Extreme Couponer...Ask Me A Question?
I've watched to TV show a couple of times and find it hard to believe they use everything they get free with coupons. I mean how many Swiffer pads is one person going to use in a life time.
Most of the coupons I get in the paper, are for products I don't use and would never consider buying just because their is a coupon for it.
Most places around here, will not double coupons. Maybe once in a couple of months Tops will put out, four $1 doubler coupons in their ad. Which Wegmans will accept too.

Re: Im a Extreme Couponer...Ask Me A Question?
One key to good couponing is self-discipline if I don't have a coupon and it is not BOGO or on sale - I don't buy it. I also never buy just because of the coupon unless it makes it free.
Know your stores, their sale days and stock up on multiples if you have the coupons in combination with BOGO, sale and/or store coupons.
Say I usually buy Folgers because it's ok coffee and $7.00 a can. But with a coupon I can buy Seattle's Best for $6.00 - I'll buy the SB. It's in the trade-off value to a degree for me.
