Re: Will Copper be the new Gold?
WEll, if copper isn't valuable, then why are people breaking into older homes that are for sale and ripping out the copper pipes. 4 times this summer in a small town north of here, power relay stations were broken into and the copper wiring was stolen. Power out in all cases for day. Never caught the buggers who did it

Copper is the most valuable among cheaper metals. Typically it's homeless people that salvage copper to make a few bucks more than if they recycled bottles.

Helium is

The stuff is near running out, therefore what's left will be worth quite a lot.. think of all those balloons the stuff is wasted on!
 Quoting: nomind

Ok so it would be a long term investment but eh...

The experts warn that the world could run out of helium within 25 to 30 years, potentially spelling disaster for hospitals, whose MRI scanners are cooled by the gas in liquid form, and anti-terrorist authorities who rely on helium for their radiation monitors, as well as the millions of children who love to watch their helium-filled balloons float into the sky.

Copper is valuable in large quantities and the price is set in pounds, About a month ago I cashed in about 25 lbs of scrap copper at a scrap yard, I got 85 dollars for it, it's good for some quick cash!

Re: Will Copper be the new Gold?
silver is usually 1/16 of the price of gold, for whatever reason it isn't now eventually it will re-adjust and silver will be worth around 4-500$ per troy ounce. and more cheap metals such as copper will follow, that is if the trend with gold keeps rising. Before the last decade silver had always been said 1/16 the worth of gold, although im not sure why it isn't now, im sure it will go back up with gold.

I'm a Jew and I thought that was hilarious.

Copper will never be the new gold, gold will stay gold, and copper will stay copper. It works like this copper is NEEDED for industry, silver is NEEDED for technology, gold (or the appearance of such) is NEEDED for international trade and finance. These fundamentals will probably not change until gold and silver can be manufactured cheaper then recovered from the earth. I don't think that will happen for a while, at least 50-100 years, maybe much longer.

Indeed, once we reach the technological point where we can actually manufacture precious minerals just as we can manufacture diamonds, things will change... Well maybe.
