I have read Eckhart Tolle, Krishnamurti, and still not doing what I should be doing
I've read Eckhart Tolle's 3 books, I've read Krishnamurti's Flight of the Eagle and some other of his books on PDF's, and I've read many books on many different subjects including confidence, combat training, weight training, sungazing, several Gurdjieff books, and other diverse subjects.

I like to study what goes into my body, for example -- I like supplements and feeling good from what I eat...but the problem is that I keep falling when I should really be flying. I struggled for 3-4 years to get off marijuana and stopped last month but started again 3-4 days ago. I used to smoke 3-4-5 joints a day, it's a lot less now, but I still think too much about it. Whenever I smoke I feel really bad psychologically, so I don't even know why I am doing it. I also smoke cigarettes even though I've did quit several times, 1st time 1 month, 2nd time also 1 month.

I feel terrible about myself because I want to look better physically....I want to do weight training but I keep putting it off.

So...Why don't I just do what I should be doing?? wtf

What will it take to **REALLY** understand the Power of Now? I've tried reading that book several times...

The "now" is without past and future hence without thoughts like that:

I feel terrible about myself because I want to look better physically....I want to do weight training but I keep putting it off.

You can't live in the Now because you are to busy dwelling on a version of You that doesn't exist. Accept yourself as you are and you can be in this moment. Your body will follow suit and adjust itself to meet your idea of it.

Right now you don't think you look good so your body is going to put food and nutrients in places to match that image. Decide you are fit and your body will change to meet that.

I heard about these things, but I think I have had enough of smoking it, more than 10 years now....I think too much and can't control my thoughts after smoking...how can I enjoy something when I know it is holding me back? So I don't even enjoy it anymore, I only enjoy making it and lighting it up, everything after that is just really bad habit and destructive.

Treat yourself like you would your own child.

You would forgive them.
You would not emotionally berate them.
You would love them as they are.
They would flourish.

Now apply this to yourself, this is self love.
Do it, you deserve it.

The rest will fall into place.

Okay, thanks. I'll try. I think I am just too unconscious when I decide to go out and buy cigarettes and weed...

I've had friends describe the "power" of the moment, feeling amazing and noticing some kind of light inside themselves, but I think I am looking for that feeling, not realizing I will never achieve any good feeling in the moment as I am unconsciously waiting for something to make me feel good(weed, cigarettes etc)?

I feel those two statements are really accurate. But why am I waiting for a "game changer"? I always feel like that, that something will change everything...but that would just involve time and mind again, wouldn't it? I can see that thought is futile but I keep listening to my mind again and again...

Replace them with good habits. Like meditation. That will also take care of the whole living in the now thing. Also it will help you analize and dissolve the feelings that lead you to the bad habits...
The big problem is forcing yourself to meditate. So just keep reminding yourself that you are a sloppy, overweight dope addict and that you're not accomplishing the goals you have set.

Re: I have read Eckhart Tolle, Krishnamurti, and still not doing what I should be doing
Have you heard of Mindfulness/practice of present moment awareness. Its much like Eckhart Tolles info I guess. A great book I read about this is called 'The Presence Process' - I forget the author but it details a 7 week programme to follow in order to free the self from emotional and physical addictions.

Keep at it, it took me many years to finally quit smoking but I did it not by force but natural inner self change - there came a point where I was no longer dependent on that addiction. I intend to clear my occasional bouts of drinking alcohol too. Regular wheatgrass juice and exercise out in nature help me with that one, as well as meditation practice.

Try not to beat yourself up over set backs, acceptance of self as is in present moment is key to moving forward imo.

The Four Agreements by Don Ruiz is also a very good book for inspiring self change.

Re: I have read Eckhart Tolle, Krishnamurti, and still not doing what I should be doing
Spiritual Books 'do it to you' all you do is read them, feel the space open up within as your reading-if you dont feel the space read something else that opens you up.

When you start feeling that space, pray God fill it with goodness, dont just let any old THING throw itself into you, they are a bugger to get rid of!

I spent years reading all sorts and then one day a book fell of the bookshelf I picked it up and read from where it had opened-'if you make My Word your home you will indeed be my disciple and you shall know the truth and the truth will make you free'

I've been letting that particular book read me ever since.

Re: I have read Eckhart Tolle, Krishnamurti, and still not doing what I should be doing
FYI people who wrote books were talking about a Philophsy

MOST... DID NOT LIVE what they wrote...

I can WRITE great ETHERICAL Ramblings... but putting them into this world is not at all possible.

WHICH WORLD IS REAL.

I have walked with some of the most illuminiated people on the planet this life time... and guess what..... MOST... do NOT WALK WHAT THEY TALK.

As a very beautiful western lady going to India with many Swammi's they ALL want to SLEEP WITH YOU.

In PRIVATE they are ALL different than during the Ashram events.

Everyone has a Divine side and a human side... and on any give day... one or the other will show up.

THERE is PERFECTION in the BALACE of these two worlds.

SeeK NOT to be as any one of them... BE WHO YOU ARE... and REMOVE ALL SELF-JUDGEMENT... that is the way you WALK as a MASTER in this world.

When you FOLLOW OTHERS... you will NEVER ATTAIN what they have written as it was for THEM... NOT YOU.

ATTAIN WHAT IS WITHIN YOU.... No GODS BEFORE YOU!

Not by the RULES and LAWS of others... but MAKE YOUR OWN.

REMOVE SELF-Judgment, Fear, Lack and SHAME....

That is what is needed to MASTER... FORGIVE YOURSELF for being ignorant.

Ask The LORD GOD WITHIN YOU... to be your TEACHER... belive me they will APPEAR and INSPIRE AND TEACH YOU.

Smile.

Re: I have read Eckhart Tolle, Krishnamurti, and still not doing what I should be doing
Life is a mirror that reflects back to us our conscious thoughts but more importantly our subconscious thoughts.

We can use life as a window into our deepest beliefs the ones we have suppressed and do not want to remember, the one that keep us tied to our so called destructive habit patterns.

Emotions arise from thoughts. If your repress the feeling which act as a cover, you never arrive at the source of the problem the decisions we have made about ourselvesand programming we have received from others.

A simple approach is to make feelings your friends, no resistance or judgement about them. When we resist and repress them we also repress the underlying thought processes that create them and our habit patterns.

It is the lies that we get stuck on, truth free us. We all have deep seated decisions that we are not good enought etc. They is turn create our habit patterns and what we attract to us, what we create in our personal lives.

Most of repress the feeling we have because of an underlying belief that if we really dig down deep we will find that they are true. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I hope this helps you on your journey. Simple learn to embrace your feeling and watch your thoughts. Gee where did those thoughts come from. Who do I know who thinks like that. Be aware of your feeling make them your friend and they will instantly show you the memories associated with them.

If you want to be more spiritual than you are now, hold your breath for 20 min. Then you will be totally spirit. Spirit is who you are, you need do nothing to be who you are. The rest is just Belief Systems that we have been sold and bought into. Its really up to you, and what you think you have to do or be to be spiritual. It is you who quantifies and qualifies the energies around you. rken

Re: I have read Eckhart Tolle, Krishnamurti, and still not doing what I should be doing
You need to observe whole process without judgment and opinions. As you smoke just observe it, ask "who smokes?", "why smokes?" and keep still mentally. In order for change to happen you must transcend that mental level on which you started a "problem". Be very conscious, don't let mind to tell you things like " iam bad" or "iam good", just watch the process. Observe. Please try. Don't think about time at all or whether you will be able to stop smoking or not. Just with pure childish interest observe what is going on. That observation itself will bring an insight upon which the mind will drop it itself.

Re: I have read Eckhart Tolle, Krishnamurti, and still not doing what I should be doing
The power of now isn't going to help you stop smoking, but introspection will. Take half hour to an hour every evening and just sit in a quiet place.. you don't need to close your eyes or mantra anything, just sit, and have the thought in the back of your mind about why you started in the first place. Let your brain/computer do the rest. Eventually memories will surface that will help you understand why you started in the first place.

Until you truely understand why you started and maintained the habit you will not free yourself from it. Once you do see it, and you also have made the inwards decision to really stop, it will be a snap. You will not have any trouble beyond the chemical itch itself (which you've shown you can out gun already!).

Again, your problem is psychological, not chemical, as it is for the majority of people who get stuck in bad habits. And again, the only way out is the understand how you got yourself tangled up in the first place.

For me it was peer pressure as a teenager, i felt that in order to be accepted and loved as a friend i had to join in (the true problem was friendship/relationships). Now consciously i was not aware of that at the time, but upon introspection i found that to be true, and the habit fell away instantly.
