Thermal Imaging Cameras Are More Effective Way To Steal PIN Numbers
A team of researchers from the University of California at San Diego have found that thermal imaging cameras can be used to steal PIN numbers when people make a cash withdrawal from an ATM. Residual heat from a person’s finger when it touches the keypad to punch in their PIN can be viewed with an infrared camera to give away your combination without anyone having to actually see your finger on the button

how would you apply? 4 digits is a lot of possibilities and most atms will keep the card after a couple failed attempts, and thats if you have the card. Would be more applicable for entry keypads.

Heat signatures fade. 1st digit will be faded more than the rest and last digit wont be as faded as the others.

Re: Thermal Imaging Cameras Are More Effective Way To Steal PIN Numbers
Since the heat fades, a thermal camera would show 4 different heat levels if you only touch the 4 keys in sequence.

The way to fool it is make sure there is no real thermal/time pattern.

So make sure you touch most of the keys, both before and after you enter your real pin, just don't press them all.

That way, they will see say 5-7 hot keys, and not in the order you pressed them. Also keep your finger on each key for a different time, so they heat up differently.

Have fun!

Use a pencil or pen to press the keys. Place fingers on random other keys.
