Ecuador is a politically unestable country. You may not have radiation but may have pretty violent social disturbs. Same goes ti Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Paraguay and Brazil.

Uruguay sounds like an all-around desirable place to go

Yes it is...you do not want as a foreing citizen to live in a potential violent country. Of course if TSHTF there is little to do but to make sure you are living in a more educated society...IMO, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile are the most educated societies in South America which means they could react in a more rational way if everything start falling apart. I know the other SA countries will react with violence, just because that is what they are used to do, it is their only way to express their frustration.

Should you change your mind to Ecuador, I am with you. We can work in Ecuador. There are cities (with expats) high in the mountains. The poster from Mexico that posted that the other countries are 'uncivilized' and violent is ignorant. There is far less crime- specifically violent crime- in Ecuador than in Brazil. Moreover, I would assume that his assumption is based on hair/skin color. The countries he deems 'more educated' tend to have lighter skin..... Google it- don't take his word for it. When the president of Ecuador took the police officer's rights away, they called it 'violent protests' because tear gas was thrown. No one injured or killed. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

Central Missouri. My passport is current (had to get it renewed because of a trip to Canada last December).

Incidentally, as far as skills go, my main degrees are in computer science and mathematics, but I was raised a Missouri farm boy so I have those kinds of skills as a base. I don't know how applicable they'd be to farming or cattle raising down that way, but it's at least a start.

what i have found with most people in latin america is they are hungry for knowledge. when they see someone with white skin they want to talk to you. they want to pick your brain to help give them ideas to make their lives easier. and my spanish is not so good but i can usually get my points across if i take the time and try hard.

1 dollar gets you 18.20 pesos as of today, but you can just use dollars here for just about anything. Property, vehicles and most stuff are sold in us dollars.
