I think in long pond pa the storm did substantial damage.I was a bit doubtful when I woke up to 2 mph winds,as the day went on,we had gusts that must have been 60 plus.

Keep an eye on all the dams and rivers overflooding in the area. It might just be more media hype but if those go, your looking at a situation much more then Irene. Just remember katrina, and how it didn't look so bad until the real footage came in

Each city has a different way they would need to be evacuated so just evac the zone a area of NYC wouldnt be much of a test. What about DC, Philly, LA. Not like a emp will just hit east coast

Did you not watch CNN? Anderson Cooper was in Battery Park showing how everything essentially returned back to normal with people just walking around curiously checking everything out.

Running on genny - central Maine. No power for three days - still have DSL - plenty of food-water. Off to bed early after helping neighbors with their gennys after a glass of wine.

EW YORK (AP) -- The remnants of Irene have turned rivers and creeks into raging torrents in parts of upstate New York and New England.

Authorities in Vermont's capital, Montpelier, warned residents to be ready to evacuate late Sunday as the Winooski River rose.

Parts of downtown Brattleboro and Bennington, Vt., were submerged. Authorities banned the sale of alcohol in New Paltz, N.Y., in an effort to keep spectators away from the dangerous Wallkill River

Irene took a more westerly path than forecast, putting landlocked Vermont in its path. Homes flooded and culverts and roads washed out statewide.

The Fleet had to bug out of Norfolk. The idea of lending coastal humanitarian aid is perfectly in their Mission.

The three ships are Amphibs and a helo carrier.

Wow some real damage there. That highway pic is something boy. I wish I could see what was happening in RI when I look on the internet it is so limited. I guess people aren't out there yet.

The media won't stop talking about this, even my local news (and I live on the west coast!)

Oh no I understand that it is within their mission I get that. I just couldn't figure why we needed them. Thank you OP for the pictures there is some real damage that I just wasn't aware of. I always think of ships bringing aid for millions of people who need food or something. Not really thinking about the other issues they can help with, helo vacing sick etc. I get it.

Our media does the same to us when something happens over there.

I have a question maybe someone here can help me with. After a hurricane comes through and turns up the ocean does the water temp drop. I'm wondering about the next hurricane and its travel over that water and its gain strength when it goes over. I might now have worded that so well but you get my jest right? thank you

Something weird is going on, i live in NJ and i have been following my local news for the past 2 days and this morning they went to the beach in my area (monmouth county) and it showed strong winds and loads of rain, no one was on the boardwalk. So i go outside (im 4 blocks from the beach) and it is slight windy with a mostly clear sky and few clouds, it was beautiful like a nice fall day. My sister lives close to the beach and said it was not raining down there or any strong winds. i believe there was a strong tropical storm because i felt it last nite but this morning it died down. Why do the news people lie ? i dont get it

Obama: Irene Impact to be 'Felt for Sometime

u.S. President Barack Obama is warning that the impact of Tropical Storm Irene is just beginning to be felt. Nearly 20 lives have been lost, and property damage has been estimated in the billions of dollars. The president spoke Sunday as the former hurricane moved through the Northeastern United States toward Canada.

Although Irene has weakened and left some of America’s biggest cities, President Obama cautioned that the U.S. East Coast will continue to feel its effects.

They probably shot the vid earlier. No doubt. I've been watching the same vids for hours now it is getting sickening. I'm trying to figure out what is happening now. I have to wait for the latest news. It is taking forever.
