Anything is possible. Quoting: bigrex Where are you going to go? East Coast is on the move, and tsunami will happen, not to mention the big storms this season, beginning now. Central US, you have the New Madrid Problem West Coast-- well, no need to elaborate there. |

PENG User ID: 1159762 United States 08/23/2011 04:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | On December 9, 2003 at 3:59 p.m. EST (20:59 UTC) in Farmville about 30 miles (48 kilometers) west of Richmond, Virginia there was a 4.5 magnitude earthquake. The earthquake was felt strongly over almost all of Virginia, from Lynchburg to Hampton Roads. There was shaking reported in much of North Carolina, the District of Columbia, and suburban Maryland. Shaking was also reported in eastern West Virginia, southern Pennsylvania, and portions of the Delmarva Peninsula. This event was located at 37.728° N, 78.087° W, at a depth of less than 5 km (3 miles) and may have occurred due to rupture along the Lakeside fault. It was preceded by a magnitude 3.8 event on May 5, 2003 whose epicenter was located only a few kilometers away.[8] This event was a significant earthquake, one of the largest recorded in Virginia since the widespread use of modern seismic monitoring equipment in the early 1970s — the largest prior Virginia earthquake occurred on May 31, 1897 in Giles County and is estimated to have had a magnitude of 5.9. The earthquake caused little to no structural damage, but as a precaution, government buildings in Richmond were evacuated and inspected for damage.[9] Wikipedia shows there was no activity after 1975, then picks up in 2003. More frequent now. "May the road rise up to meet you.... May the wind be always at your back..." |

Central US, you have the New Madrid Problem West Coast-- well, no need to elaborate there. Well, nowhere myself, I'm in Utah, in the lowest quake risk areas you can have out here, although the whole region is still prone to quakes. For people on the east coast, I don't know, Yellowknife, Canada might be a good place at this point? Of course, that is impractical for most people. Central Montana would also probably be a good alternative. A two week vacation might be a tad less impractical for some though. Last Edited by fluffycrittermeister on 08/23/2011 04:15 PM |
