Assuming it doesn't destroy buildings, the issue in NYC
is going to be the infrastructure damage from the storm
surge. You can always go higher in your building for
flood safety. But power, subway, etc. will all be out.

Water should retreat very quickly once the sea goes down.
It will not be immediate loss of life, it will be a city
that is suddenly thrown back to the 1800s.

It’s not a right comparison. The snow of 1976 fell on February 5. Now is later February, I’m afraid they could hardly find the snow record in this area at this time in recent years. The article is at the top of the first page of the Mercury News. It is obvious an advice to residents to stay at home in this week-end when the storm comes.

Based on this unusual phenomenon, I think the Feds have planned another plot in coming week-end. They set up a drug case, and distract public attention by the terror attacks in San Francisco, New York and London, followed with the war on Iran. It will hit as a category 2 at best, which won't cause any massive destruction. No highrises are going to be swept away or anything.

The issue will be the small(ish) things adding up. Blackouts, flooded streets, water lines breaking, etc. Or rather, the problem will be people's reaction to this.

actually it has been extremely hot up here in nyc and the northeast in general, I am from Palm Beach, Florida so I have a lifetime of firsthand hurricane experience and I am most defiantly leaving town!!! New York City is not able to handle a category 1 storm, not even thinking about all the glass; Nyc is on very low lying islands in a very concentrated harbor with 2 large fast flowing rivers running against it.
