Maybe I'm missing something here but seems a little contradictory to erect a powerful pagan idol in your nation's capital with all the symbolism that it packs and then etch a phrase on the top where no one can see it giving "praise to god". That would be like building a giant swastica and carving the phrase "long live the Jews" in small print in an obscure corner where it's not visible. Anyone else see the contradiction here? It is inscribed with the words "Laus Deo" which means "Praise Be To God" in Latin. There are more strange things with this monument. No, because it is meant to be symbolic. Why would a 8" capstone on a 555 ft tall structure have writing on it(which you know the inscription of because it is not hidden or cryptic) that is difficult to read or see from the ground? Are you serious? Do you realize there are hundreds of thousands of strange and questionable inscriptions all over the world that are both cryptic, in plain view, and similar to this object yet no one know fuck all about them? This was built in the 1800's for gods sake. Try looking back to 12,000 bc and start from there. This is when you truly learn where the sacredness of these objects comes from. p.s not in the bible....just put it down and go to your ancient history section in the local library.
