For the Americans here just a FYI:
True or false? Canadian and U.S. copyright laws are basically the same.
False. Copyright law in the United States is different than copyright law in Canada. For example, the "fair use" concept in the U.S. is much broader than the "fair dealing" concept in Canada. Also, most materials pass into the public domain 70 years after the author's death in the U.S. while it takes 50 years in Canada. It is important to keep in mind that U.S. material used in Canada is subject to Canadian law, and vice versa.
