I did. It is ambiguous at best. I guess that is how they like it. But the fact that a personal vacation is supposed to be partially be paid by the first family, do you really think that settles it all? FOr one thing, for their airfare - providing they are being honest and not tacking on petty reasons as to why each trip will have partial official business - they only pay the amount they would have paid for regular commercial flighta. So they get a quote from cheaptickets dot com for a vaca for four for $1000, and get to fly two air force jets to their destination at the total cost of $150,000.00. hmmmm. and there is the cost of her /their body guards and secret service staff that accompany them everywhere. They also have to sleep in hotels and eat in restaurants, and all of that is footed by taxpayers. So just because they pay a few bucks for the cost of economy airfare and buy their own supper, does not mean the taxpayers are not footing a massive bill for these excursions.
another point to make: if michelle's spain trip really did cost $375,000, do you really think she paid for that??? That is her salary for the year! They have spent more on vacations - even being generous about how much they would have actually paid - than they actually earn. The math does not add up to be honest, so I am thinking that while they are "supposed" to pay, they probably have more than enough loopholes in the system to avoid having to fork out too much cash. I may be wrong, but it doesnt look terribly likely.
At any rate, no matter who is right or wrong about how much of the bill is payed for by taxpayers, I hope threads and outcries like these reach the "first Ears". They have no bsiness being on vaca right now with a hurricane about to hit - economy collapsing etc. Simply out of respect for their country they should be staying close to home and setting a conservative example for people about riding out tough times together. Lavishness, no matter who pays for it, is disrespectful.
