Hey me too, Montvale. The storm was Floyd, but I wasn't here I was in AZ. I remember seeing the flooding on TV and saying where the hell is that? Then when they said it was Hillsdale I was shocked.

We have had a shit load of rain around here, it's been pouring all day. If we get strong winds the giant trees will fall with ease, knocking out power and crushing whatever is in their path, so this is serious. Stay safe!

As an update, further major storms are developing in the Atlantic – so who knows!

The east coast is not often the target of hurricanes, and I just hope this post is read by those who might need ideas or motivation.

We're being told this is a very dangerous storm and everyone should be preparing.

Let's hope they are.

Yea - no such thing as a cat 6 - anyhoo, anything after cat 3 is catastrophic, so categories are theoretic.

Much storm damage is expected up the east coast and on saturday the middle of the storm would be located in New York area - prepare for trees and lines down and resulting power outages ..SO..STOCK UP NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE ON ALTERNATE LIGHTING ETC
Get your batteries and candles sorted - oil lamps and fuel..but be safe - handle with care and keep inflammables out of reach of kids etc
One hint - ensure your family know where all the torches etc are located - and place them at suitable and convenient places arounbd the home - e.g. by side of bed, at foot and top of stairways etc - more injuries are caused LOOKING for that torch then the event itself!!

the center will be passing directly over the city I live in, I was out gassing up and seen cars on the highway waiting to pull into Walfarm. I have never seen so many trying to get into take super sorry store since it was built 4 years ago.

Sad looking situation for us but money in the pocket of the (rather not say).

Didn't read your entire to do list, but take large plastic containers fill for non-potable water for the toilet. if you are on well water like I am, you need to figure enough for 3 flushes per day per person.

Looked like this except with 15-20 foot swells rolling on the beach.

It looks to be hitting the region at 0200 Sunday morning (high tide 2400hrs), Full moon and 7.0 tide, this alone is higher then average.

Then adding the storm surge, you could be looking at a tidal surge of a small tsunami, this is no joke. Living by the water as I have for the last 30 years, i have seen many storms.

The last major flooding (Coastal) was mother's day 2008, this looks to be twice as bad.

I already remembered one item I forgot.

Small denominations rather than large bills.

In my email I referenced hand-crank radios which can be found at alot of places nowdays.

If you have a water purification system, have that ready, also. I have a two gallon Big Berky with extra filters.

If you have to leave your home don't forget your cell phone charger.

Protect any valuables from storm surges or rain.

Unfortunately, the shore lines will also be dealing with high tide early Sunday morning adding to the risk of severe flooding.
