I was set to leave two days prior to landfall and she took a turn into Beaumont at the last minute. "Nothing is as far away as one minute ago." --Jim Bishop :gameizovar: It's DO:OM o'clock. The good news is, nobody's leaving, so if one were to leave now, it would probably not be much of a problem. Saturday night, though...Let's just say it should be an interesting evening to be on GLP. Yep. I know I would bail, if there are no evacs going on. The power outage projections alone are unreal. My Magic 8-ball tells me GLP is going to have tons of hits this weekend, too, Rev. The EQ got ticked off earlier this week, six floors up and building swaying. Currently raining heavily in downtown NYC and thundering overhead - very dark and gloomy outside. Best Bravo |

Hitndahedfred User ID: 826012 United States 08/25/2011 12:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ==================================================== Without any further reading here THIS Would be the best option in my opinion. Go west and take some kinda mini weekend vacation. Last Edited by Hitndahedfred on 08/25/2011 12:20 PM Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Few are willing to embrace the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. Best Bravo Hurricanes are a whole lot of fun, if you live a few hundred miles inland. We have hurricane parties in Birmingham, but then, they're typically minimal tropical storms by the time they get to us. A Cat 2 in a large city with so many people so unprepared for anything is a dangerous situation. It's not so much the wind and rain you have to worry about. It's this guy... You would have to know week and a half or more ahead of time before you could pull off a NYC(and surrounding) evac. If it ever happened I could only imagine the amount of military presence |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1437442 United States 08/25/2011 12:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just received the email from building management for area of Lower NYC: Quoting: Bravo111 Dear Tenants, As I’m sure you are aware a potentially dangerous hurricane may hit our area at some point over the weekend. In preparation of the storm please read below: - Make sure you’re windows are closed and stay as far away from them as possible during the Hurricane. - Tenants with patios are required to bring their furniture inside their apartments prior to the Hurricane. - Tenants who have storage items in the garage on the 2nd and 3rd floors (i.e. bicycles or strollers) must remove the items by 9:00am tomorrow morning or they will be removed by the building staff. - It is recommended to keep the following items on hand: extra cash, batteries, flash lights, battery operated radio, bottled water, toilet paper, non perishable food such as cereal or crackers, canned goods, can opener, and a small cooler. If you have small children stock up on baby wipes, diapers, formula and baby food. - The community room and gym will be closed during the Hurricane. - In the event you are forced out of your apartment during the storm the screening room on the 9th floor is a safe option. Under your doors tonight will be a fact sheet from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with more detailed information on what to do during a Hurricane or you can go to their website at [link to www.fema.gov] NOAA now shows the same path as last night's GFS model. [link to www.nhc.noaa.gov] Here is a pic of the above with a line draw on it. It looks like its headed for the Coney Island - Rockaway Beach area in the vicinity of the Marine Parkway Bridge. My psychic prediction has it about 20 miles to the east of Rockaway Beach (Jones Beach). |
