By 'hows that for mud in your eye' mean that you think I am dissin' you? I really AGREE with you and think you have made a fantastic choic for a place to survive!

Words fail so much on the internet!

To be super clear --- I think what you are doing is great!

Food, water, water filtration, water storage.

Live in the countryside with a large garden, got seeds. Farm next door has chickens, and cows.

Am I bugging out with 4 children? Not likely. Got camping equipment, just in case.

Did and learned what I could until now. Need to stock up on fire wood though.

I am like you, no bugging out with my young children.

I have supplies and will be the first to unite my village to a united community.

I would like to know more about wild foods and such to be able to bring more to the society I live in.

I feel that I have been called to live where I do, and before I lived in an ideal location in australia, except for the sea.

Yes, there is a ton of info online concerning survival foods. Im sure you could find something about your area in France. I have a friend who's mother(as a hobby) knows all about the flora that grows locally. Too bad she lives in the south of Germany though. I even bought books on survival medicine.

Another thing I considered was starting a hobby and stocking up on supplies for making candles and/or soap. Would be a good source for bartering.

And just for "fun" I was considering buying a couple of crossbows for my husband and oldest son, a new hobby for them(wink*wink*)- might come in handy later. tounge

Re: Any preppers in Northern Europe?
I'm in a 12th century ex-templar chateau in the vezere valley, the valley of anient cromagnon man. deep in southwest france. 4ft thick stone walls, natural springs, my own stretch of river, caves and tunnels that go nearly a mile deep. more mushrooms, fruits and nuts to forage than you could believe, its been this way for 50,000 years. I create my own electricity and I've got a large stockpile of fuel and food and other important supplies. 30,000 bottles of wine, three years of dried tobacco crops. I'm also tight with the local farming mafia who love to barter tax free at the moment so i imagine they will be user friendly if i need anything in a doom scenario. 30 hectares of wood, crops and livestock. watchtowers at all points of compass. even some defences and strategic chokepoints on my land to deal with invaders. lots more that i dont want to post here.

Re: Any preppers in Northern Europe?
Well im not going to store food because u wont be needed to do so because NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.

do u guys have a life ?? i mean store food ...u can store food for everything that could happen.

the chance u get hit by a plane thats coming down is more plausible then some comet kicking ur ass.

atleast this comet wont kick ur ass for sure.

even if it hits earth with this size of a comet it wont do much harm..ofcourse if u live in the impact zone u could get fucked but i dont think someone notice something on the other side of the world.

We live about ten miles from the shore. The weekend of Sept 25/26 we'll be at the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. Camping, so most gear is already on us for hiking. I'll be bringing a few extra things in the top box, but not too much. If anything happens, we can be in the mountains in half a day. If nothing happens, we will be heading back home Sunday afternoon & back to work on Monday =)

Yep, I got 9 months worth off food thus far. I hope to increase that upon next pay cheque to 11 months.

If you don't mind what are your plans? Bugging out or staying put? Do you have others to carry or are you single?

What are your thoughts on hunting and foraging and places where you plan to do that?

My next prep purchase will be a topographic map book of france. Moneys tight at the moment though and I hope I have time to get it.

Good luck with your preps!

If anyone knows about a good wild food book for northern europe chime in!

When I saw this, I thought of your thread...stinging nettles are everywhere. Since living here, I have heard many a story about folks during and after the war using this as a food source.

"The stinging nettle plant is a nutritional powerhouse, rich in iron, potassium, calcium, magnesium, silicon, boron, and zinc. It is also an excellent source of vitamins A, D, E, and K. They have been used in traditional English stews, teas and beers for centuries, while the Italians cherish them for pesto and the Scandinavians make a knockout nettle soup called Nässelsoppa. However, the complications come with eating the things raw since the planet is covered in thousands of microscopic hypodermic needles each filled with boric acid. Crushing the leaves disable the sting so nettles can even be served in salads." Many more detail, uses here:

Re: Any preppers in Northern Europe?
Hello!

My name is Liisi Mölder and I am an Estonian videojournalist. As part of a Masters project, me and the German documentary photographer Fabian Weiß are currently planning to undertake an audiovisual documentary about people preparing for the world to end. As many people say that the Mayan calendar predicts the world’s end on the 21st of December 2012, we are interested in how people in Europe are getting ready for a catastrophe that would end the world as we know it.

Our goal is to make the different movements and communities visible in order to give people an insight into possible solutions and other people's actions. Therefore we are looking for individuals and communities preparing for the world to end on the 21st of December 2012 to visit and conduct interviews.

It was very interesting to read your discussion about preppers in Europe. If you are currently preparing for the world’s end or know some individuals or communities, please get in touch as soon as possible. We are looking forward to hearing from you!

Yours sincerely,
Liisi Mölder and Fabian Weiß

There must be other europeans!

Come on! What are your plans and your skills in wood craft etc.
 Quoting: AmethystSOUL

here in Portugal we are vunlerable if there is a big tsunami, but tsunamis are only lethal on land, on the sea you cant feel them , so i guess the best place to be during a cataclysm is on the Ocean, you are in france, and afaik , france is full of forests and farmlands, just go away from the coast :) and as somebody stated before, Social Skills are the most important survival tool, because we are community monkeys.
And the side skills are: making food, know what to eat and what not to eat, have a weapon , and lots of batteries! and a tent , firt aid kit. I will get a Boat with some people i know.. we are Preparing for the worst, but we are living our lives normal... because we are just alert of a thing, but not sure if that thing is going to happen! but better stay ready!

and btw, i think its not a good idea to try to form Large groups of people, and its a even WORST idea to try to get ppl from other countries together.. i know europe is small, but its not so small... it would take some good days to get to another country... since i cant see myself going to an Airport during a possible cataclysm.
Always stay in groups of no more than 10 people, or else it will start to have conflicts sooner or later.
And then follow your instinct! and remember... The sun sets at around WEST and Rises in EAST, and at night you can see the north Star.... so the best GPS actually is the one Nature gives us!

peace!
