I hope to increase that upon next pay cheque to 11 months. Quoting: irishspirit1 If you don't mind what are your plans? Bugging out or staying put? Do you have others to carry or are you single? What are your thoughts on hunting and foraging and places where you plan to do that? My next prep purchase will be a topographic map book of france. Moneys tight at the moment though and I hope I have time to get it. Good luck with your preps! If anyone knows about a good wild food book for northern europe chime in! Here lives light. The light here is spreading out into the universe, across the all. It raises the frequency of all it touches. It touches all and is the all. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1521184 Belgium 08/26/2011 12:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey everyone Quoting: AmethystSOUL So after viewing that elenin vid and seeing the time frame we are entering I have upped my food stores and preparedness. I would love to know if there where any other northern europeans preping and most of all if you have found any books on wild food for norther europe? Americans are so spoiled for choice its a little hard for the rest of us! I grew up in Australia so my bush-craft knowledge doesn't work now that I live in France. I have a handful of books of wild food but nothing I feel 100% is right for my area. I have young kids so bugging out is not really an option. anyone else trying to prepare quietly? J No because Elenin doom is BS. And if any doom vid you watch makes you react like that, you might as well start building your bunker so that you'll be prepared your whole life. |

Quoting: AmethystSOULThings like that for the comestible plants: [link to www.amazon.fr] [link to www.amazon.fr] This for the medicinal plants: [link to www.amazon.fr] And this for learning how to build traps, the SAS bible from Wiseman: [link to www.amazon.fr] With these 3 books, you're good to go. |

People on GLP always imagine doom madmax-style with guns and bunkers. That's so American :) If TSHTF in Europe, join a village in the countryside and try to be a part of a community. That's the best way to maximize your chances. Human is a social animal, not a solitary one. |

I have two children and a wife to care for. We have got a caravan in the Donegal hills that will keep us more than safe. We have also been learning a lot about eating wild. [link to www.wildmanwildfood.com] is a good source, along with others. I would suggest that you check that out. Be safe and I hope you get sorted. To the poster saying about ELENIN Doom. I am not readying for that, but get real, shit is going to hit the fan. |

Human is a social animal, not a solitary one. Locals would know WAY better than you where to hunt, where to gather food, how to find supplies. You on the other hand, would be lost. Your best chances are to learn proper French and make some friends in the countryside (far from big cities). |

On the other hand in Europe there are villages everywhere. You need to learn how to be a part of a community. |

I am not afraid nor anxious. I just think its a good moment to tighten things (which are by no means prepper perfect). In the long run its only YOU that can decide when it is time to react. Thankyou everyone else for your posts and the links. I already live in a small community in France however we are only 45mins from Paris so I realise I might have to move if the SHTF. If anything, you can come to my place ;) Just find a village and a community. Many villages in Europe have anything they need for living in autonomy: -a source of water -fields -herds Heck in some places there are still houses without electricity. Comfort is overrated. |
AmethystSOUL (OP) User ID: 1280904 France 08/26/2011 01:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | User ID: 1521184 from Belgium: You have been wonderful in your giving nature. I do live in a close nit community surrounded by forest and crops and a river running right through it all. Also lots of caves etc. Its wonderful to hear about another prepper in my part of the world! I remember reading stories about the first settlers to america who died of survey and the like while they lay atop of pine bark that could of saved them. I grew up in the bush in AUS so I know how to fit into a country community. Its only I am seeking now to educate myself on the wild food that surrounds me NOW, which is so different than anything in Australia. My community is mostly older people with a lot of memories from the 2 world war and stortages. They all grow their own food and hunt and butcher. But even with all this knowledge they suffered during the occupation, so you have to have skills and be prepared. Not afraid. Prepared. Here lives light. absol User ID: 1521666 Sweden 08/26/2011 01:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | im in sweden, i will try to find somewhere underground for protection against the agitated suns and gamma rays for when the magnetic field could go down, and bring with me food and stuff. if we survive elening, we need to get to higher ground, because the dwarf star behind it will cause super high tidal waves, so we'll need a cave at very high altitude or underground |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1486121 Portugal 08/26/2011 01:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There must be other europeans! Quoting: AmethystSOUL Come on! What are your plans and your skills in wood craft etc. here in Portugal we are vunlerable if there is a big tsunami, but tsunamis are only lethal on land, on the sea you cant feel them , so i guess the best place to be during a cataclysm is on the Ocean, you are in france, and afaik , france is full of forests and farmlands, just go away from the coast :) and as somebody stated before, Social Skills are the most important survival tool, because we are community monkeys. And the side skills are: making food, know what to eat and what not to eat, have a weapon , and lots of batteries! and a tent , firt aid kit. I will get a Boat with some people i know.. we are Preparing for the worst, but we are living our lives normal... because we are just alert of a thing, but not sure if that thing is going to happen! but better stay ready! and btw, i think its not a good idea to try to form Large groups of people, and its a even WORST idea to try to get ppl from other countries together.. i know europe is small, but its not so small... it would take some good days to get to another country... since i cant see myself going to an Airport during a possible cataclysm. Always stay in groups of no more than 10 people, or else it will start to have conflicts sooner or later. And then follow your instinct! and remember... The sun sets at around WEST and Rises in EAST, and at night you can see the north Star.... so the best GPS actually is the one Nature gives us! peace! |

I create my own electricity and I've got a large stockpile of fuel and food and other important supplies. 30,000 bottles of wine, three years of dried tobacco crops. I'm also tight with the local farming mafia who love to barter tax free at the moment so i imagine they will be user friendly if i need anything in a doom scenario. 30 hectares of wood, crops and livestock. watchtowers at all points of compass. even some defences and strategic chokepoints on my land to deal with invaders. lots more that i dont want to post here. |
