This is a ridiculous post! I am a Christian. And I don't really believe America was founded as a Christian nation, but a nation for the Freemasons. They were here first and most of the "founding Fathers" weren't Christians. They were Freemasons. And even if I am wrong, I still don't think it was founded on only Christianity. Freedom to worship, yes, but as I said, those that founded it were mostly non-Christians.

Slavery in America was WRONG! The slaves were abused, raped, beaten and even killed. They were rarely cared for and I believe the Civil War may have been God's judgment on us because of slavery. And by the way, I am southern and yes, some of my ancestors had slaves. I am not proud of that at all. I don't believe God supports slavers who committed atrocious acts upon their slaves at all. He meant for them to be treated in a civilized and fair manner.

Back in Biblical times, some people became slaves to pay for land or even a wife (think Jacob and Rachel. Jacob became a slave to Rachel's father so that after he'd served the agreed upon time, in this case 7 years, he could marry Rachel), or like one of my ancestors who indentured himself to a Englishman so that he could come to America. He secured passage and worked for the Englishman in America to pay for the passage and a parcel of land. God knew people would have to do this sort of thing and He made rules for them to be obeyed and the slave and the owner were to abide by them.

We are slaves to Christ. We were bought with a price, His blood. We are working to spread the Gospel and bring it to as many as we can. This He expects us to do and to obey Him. Then we will have our reward in Heaven with eternal life with Him. This is the principle that those laws were made on.

You and most of you are a bit confused about the true definition of Christian. It is not defined as 'good and decent person who always tries to do the right thing.' No, the definition of Christian is someone who believes in Jesus as God and the Bible as the Word of God. "Real Christian" has no real meaning except in your wishful minds.

Honest question, do you really think an all knowing and all loving God would ever condone some of the slavery and such mentioned in the Bible? Quite a bit of that is far from love you realize.

Secondly, why would God make us slaves to anyone? Even Christ? If we are given free will, what sense would it make to limit it in the same breath even if technically we have a choice?

Actually I have read the Bible entirely and I read it every day. I didn't say the Bible didn't condone it, I said God made the laws so that slaves would be treated fairly and humanely.

I think God has His reasons in everything He does. We cannot see it as He sees it. He is above us in His ways and thoughts. Yes, I think if God condones anything He is God and He knows best. I trust Him because through His Word I can know Him. Not everything...we see through a dark glass, but someday we will see Him and as we are fully known by Him, we will fully know Him (1 Corinthians 13:12). I don't second-guess God. I trust Him.

About free will....it is so over-rated. For God predestined everything, even whether we would be saved or not. I am a Reformed Christian, some call it Calvinist but let me say this now, I follow Christ NOT John Calvin although I do think highly of Calvin, he was not God. I don't really believe in free will when it comes to things of God because He has predestined who will be saved and who will not. Read Romans 9 about this.

I love Christ because He died for me and it was a horrendous torturous death. It is a death I will never have to suffer and I am willingly and thankfully His slave. He bought me with His blood, I am not my own. And like I said, I will have my home with Him for eternity. Being a slave in this life is nothing compared to eternity. He is my Deliverer, and I am His servant for as long as He has need of me. And I am happy for it. There is freedom in Christ.

This is not true. The only 'slaves' protected by the laws were hebrew indentures servants. They were also the only ones who sold themselves willingly into 'slavery' since theirs was the only slavery that ended every seven years.

The other slaves were considered property, and you were not punished for caning them to death, provided they took 2 days to die... and no caning that didn't result in death is punished at all.

The ONLY prohibition against any harsh treatment at all, is hebrew slaves, but the others, you may do with as you wish, as they are merely PROPERTY.

That's the facts as the bible lays them out.

And even hebrew woman slaves were rapable, provided that you 'married' them during their slavery... and when you released them, if they don't please you, you may not sell them. You can, however, kick them out, homeless and with no money and nowhere to go.

AND, to make matters worse, you could use a man's family as leverage to force him to become your permanent, lifelong slave OR LOSE HIS FAMILY TO SOME OTHER MAN.

The "provisions" of slavery as laid out in the bible are ABHORRENT to any sensible person.

Slavery in the Bible was most likely tolerated by God for the same reason that divorce was tolerated.

No. It means that men, such as slave traders, couldn't go out and steal men and then sell them into slavery. Like the American slaves had been taken. Slave traders went to Africa and kidnapped men to bring them to America and sell the as slaves. To do such a thing, a man could be put to death.
