My brother decided that his family and my family needed to plan a surprise trip so that we could all be together. You should of seen the look on their faces! I do not like to fly, but was well worth it to have the entire family together. Quoting: MamaHasAwakened We flew back home and it was snowing. Not too much, but it was beautiful from airplane! You are very brave, Mama. Watching snow from an airplane. UGH!! |

I hope your family appreciated what you did. That was a HUGE sacrifice. I couldn't have done it. Makes me queasy thinking of it. Bad enough to be up there, but to see the snow. Even in a car when it's snowing bad, it disorients you. UGH. I'd be begging someone to shoot me. Edit: No, guess I wouldn't have to worry about it. I sure did not. But, it all worked out well and she did great. She was so excited. She kept saying WOW over and over. We headed right for the back of the plane to sound proof her in case she decided not to cooperate. It was great and she did well. Then she slept pretty much all the way on the plane coming home! Could not have gone better! I was very relieved! |
flavapor User ID: 964647 United States 02/16/2012 02:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well ladies, I had pepper jelly for the first time yesterday and wow, it was sooooo good. That is not something I would have ever picked up to make myself but I was somewhere else and that was sitting out so I tried it. I had all I could do to not pig out on the whold plate. I ended up buying a jar, which I sat and munched on to American Idol last night. |

My only canning experience! LOL! Very easy! Made nice gifts too! If you liked that, you need to try Raspberry Habanero Jelly by Pampered Chef, or I buy a cheaper brand at the grocery store that tastes just the same. It is called Hot Pepper Raspberry spread by Robert Rothschild Farm...All natural and gluten free. In the better jelly section. |

The green pepper jalapeno over cream cheese on a wheat thin is what I had and it was amazing. If you have a recipe for that stuff please pass it on!! Post it on the recipe thread too. Now that you have had a taste of canning you should do more. When the berries and fruit come in you can make jam, its so much better than store bought. |

You can delete that if you want to do and if you can. I will be getting prepared this year to do some canning of fruits and vegetables! I have a neighbor who's entire backyard is a garden. It is huge. He has no clue how valuable he is if SHTF! He always is giving me stuff from his garden. I now have a plan! |

It's also nice that you didn't inform her that the plane could fall from the sky or compute how long it would take to reach land if it fell. You're great, Mama!!!! |

If you don't skim off the foam you could have mold form in the jars or under the wax. You didn't mean the skin off of the grapes, did you? You don't have to peel them. Quoting: Texan Buckeye using my phone. we used a collander and got all the skins off. you are right about the foam, TB. can cause mold. |

Nine's User ID: 10804785 United States 02/16/2012 11:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Since TG is using a phone and it's probably a real chore to type, I'll guess. It's probably after boiling the grapes. You know how some people use a cheescloth and squeeze the juice? A colander would make it go faster and probably be a lot easier. Can't see why you'd use a colander on the raw grapes to get off skins, but ya learn something every day. 8) Mama, HAHAHAHA on your cat!! Last Edited by Nine's - IN MEMORIAM on 02/16/2012 11:56 PM |
Texan Buckeye User ID: 1533753 United States 02/17/2012 12:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok, Nine's...that's what I thought, but the brain is a little slow tonight! That sounds alot easier than cheesecloth. I'll have to try that next time I make jell. Got a doggie Q for you all. Bud is back and in the house. He's lost ALOT of weight. He doesn't carry fat normally, but with all of his carrying on, he's looking boney. I called the vet's today, but I'm wondering if you all have a better idea. I asked them for the canine equivalent of a milkshake for Bud to gain some of the weight back. They told me to feed him puppy chow for a few weeks. Do any of you have a better idea? |

Nine's User ID: 10804785 United States 02/17/2012 12:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's called Satin Balls. There are a lot of variations on it, but this is the one I used when my dog had cancer, just to give him a extra boost. I ran it by my vet, and though some vets may say it's ok to feed raw eggs, my vet doesn't approve and says it depletes biotin. So, I used the second recipe that didn't make as much, and made it more often and added boiled eggs, instead of raw.If I made the first recipe, I just left the eggs out. I also don't use vegetable oil. I used olive oil, flax seed oil, butter, lard, or a combo of whatever I had, but no veggie oil. That's up to you though. Like I said, it's easy to adapt. It should bulk him up pretty fast. 5 lbs cheap hamburger (for high fat %) 1/2 large box Total cereal (about 6 cups cereal) 1/2 large box uncooked oatmeal (about 7.5 cups oats) 5 raw eggs 1/2 of 15oz jar wheat germ (about 2 cups) 5 packages Knox unflavored gelatin 5/8 cup vegetable oil (this is pretty close to 2/3 cup) 5/8 cup unsulfured molasses Pinch of salt 1 lb cheap hamburger (for high fat %) 1 and 1/3 cups Total cereal 1 and 1/2 cups uncooked oatmeal 1 raw egg 6 Tablespoons wheat germ 1 package Knox unflavored gelatin 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil 2 Tablespoons unsulfured molasses Pinch of salt |

flavapor User ID: 964647 United States 02/17/2012 12:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Im exhausted and confused. Yes take the skin off and put it thru a collander? Or no you dont have to skin them? If you put them thru the collander dont you end up with juice? Is that what you make jelly out of? Holy shit, can I just buy grape juice and make this stuff? I have always made preserves but one of my boys loves grape jelly so I was gonna make him some. |
Nine's User ID: 10804785 United States 02/17/2012 12:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You mix it up raw, TB. I rolled them in about 1 inch balls and hand feed for training rewards too. If Buddy is feeling picky, they'll eat the hand fed balls a lot faster than bulk in a bowl. You might want to start him out on just a few balls given through the day. It doesn't take much. Would love to use them for pupster for training rewards. He looks to me that he could gain some weight, but the vet says he's right where he should be and he shouldn't gain too much yet til the plates develop and keep his hips in good shape. So, guess I'll do it, but it sure makes us feel better to see some meat on those bones, doesn't it? |
Texan Buckeye User ID: 1533753 United States 02/17/2012 12:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You have to cook the grapes to get the juice and then use the colander, Flav. I've never done it that way, so not too sure on the steps. And...yes, you can buy the juice and use it as long as it 100% juice. We made it that way in HS home ec 'cause it would fit in the class period time frame! Go figure! |
