Preserving eggs for the long term through oiling

[link to www.offthegridnews.com]

I got this in my email today and thought it facinating for those of us who raise our own eggs. This winter was our first with chickens and I didn't realize they virtually stop laying eggs over the winter. So with the advice from this article maybe I can save some autumn eggs to last at least partly through the winter.

I wanted to share!

I remember my uncle saying to rub vaseline on them. He used to take them on his boat when he would stay on the boat for the summers. That way he didnt refrigerate them. I was a kid so I dont remember details
 Quoting: flavapor

I do not raise chickens yet, but I hear that the egg laying stops because of sunlight hours. If you have power to the coop, you could try a light on a timer to see if they will continue laying through the winter months.
Peace Out

If I were you, I would make a mixture of ultra fine epsom salt and vit k,a,c . Use sweet almond or grapeseed oil as a carrier for it, use it as a cleanser, you will probably not need to moisturize after it, but if you want to or feel you do, mix the vits, almond/grapeseed oil and use that. You can add carrot oil and evening primrose too if you want, but its more expensive. I would make a night serum out of those two and the vitamins, you wont need more than 4 or 5 drops on your face so a little will go a long way.

If you dont have grapeseed oil you could use extra virgin olive oil, but the grapeseed, or even almond oil is lighter, especially for the face.

You can also crush some aspirin and mix it with some apple cider vinegar to make a paste and use it as a mask.
You could also just put some apple cider vinegar on a cotton ball and use it like a toner.

I would do these at different times of the day to see if any give any immediate relief, you would know which one, but I think a routine would be good.

In addition, believe it or not eating 2 raw carrots a day should also help. It will take about 3 weeks for the vit A to build up in your system and a multi vit supplement loaded with B's and A and C, although the raw carrot seems to work better than the supplements.

Also spices tend to increase flare ups, and you just said you put curry on alot of stuff, it could be the cause of some of it.

Try to get your diet more alkaline for a month and cut out spices, not herbs just spices, eat the raw carrots. You can drink the apple cider vinegar, add some honey and take a few tbsp a day, it will get you alkaline quicker and keep you there. Try to get just below 6.0. It will kill any bacteria if you can keep it there. for at least 4 days.

Of course if you read this thread, you would know that apple cider vinegar is my cure all, but hey, it works for me and there is clinical documentation that bacterial and viral spores cant live in an alkaline environment.

Let me know what you decide to try and if it works.

I want you all to read the conclusion to an essay I just finished about my life and how social theory applies to my past, present, and future. I tried to write from the heart. I want to get a good grade--I am confident of the rest of the paper but I always hesitate about conclusions. What do you all think...

"In terms of material and emotional comfort, I am very fortunate. I was raised in an extremely loving family, was taught good morals, and have been given every opportunity to succeed than I can ever hope. Growing up, I took my blessings for granted. I could not conceive of looking past the material world. Now, I look at each day as an opportunity to give back to society all I have learned and been given. This task is not easy because I live in a capitalistic society that demands use of my physical labor and time in order to live comfortably. Once I learn how to overcome negative feelings of alienation, I cannot wait to be a part of the most important assignment of my life: spreading good will and love. The solidarity of society will more than likely change as we become more and more oppressed by money, labor, and government. My future obligations to contribute to society will be grounded in the frustration and lack of love for one another. Our possibilities as humans are much more infinite than the physical inhibitions that govern our movement—we are spirits within a shell. Tupac Shakur once sang “You wouldn't ask why the rose that grew from the concrete had damaged petals. On the contrary, we would all celebrate its tenacity—we would all love its will to reach the sun.” We, humankind, can be the rose that reaches the sun once we tenaciously overcome the illusion of physical depravity."

Well about 300 of our 365 days are warm! Maybe I will put them towards the back of the property then. If I was a not nice person I could put them right next to jackass. HAHA.

At the horders house, they had about 15 pigs and they didnt stink at all. Maybe cause it was in the 60's.

Not only am I not gonna name them, I am gonna try not to see them till there on my plate. Mike wants to take care of them. He's my redneck boy, loves being a grizzly adams kinda guy. Doesnt eat most of the stuff he catches and kills but likes doing it.

Only kid I know that fishes all day and then gives it away. Wont even taste a fish.

You're very fortunate to have Mike. He sounds like an awesome guy!

The pigs you saw that didn't smell, were they in a large area? I'm thinking they wouldn't smell as much or maybe not at all, if they had a big area. I know you'll figure it out and if nothing else, you've got some really nice smelling products. Just trot out and give them a treatment. LOL.

Thanks for that! I use my eggs all through the winter. I freeze and dehydrate them for times when they don't lay.

The time from the farm til purchase at the grocery store used to be approx. 4 months. Don't know if that's changed or not, but, if not, the egg you gather today and set in your fridge, will be like a "fresh" grocery store egg in 4 months.

My grandma lived in a hot place and she always had a bowl of eggs on her kitchen table. Never the dirty ones though. They were washed and refrigerated.

Hi Easy I think that is a pretty good conclusion. I would change one sentence in the beginning that I bolded, to make it more cohesive. Maybe "more than I could have ever hoped for" (your prior sentance is in past tense and you should finish the thought in the same tense)

I think the rest is great, although, I am not sure if you should end the conclusion with a quote from someone else. I wouldnt take it out, but add a sentence or two after it. Maybe your personal thought on the quote or how you intend to overcome the "lack of love for one another".

 Quoting: Eazy D

I love your thoughts Eazy D. Very deep and you can tell you've given it a lot of thought. There's a very humanitarian ring to it that come across loud and clear.

If I were grading this, I'd want shorter paragraphs, something like:

In terms of material and emotional comfort, I am very fortunate.

END

It seems easier to read when it's broken up. I especially liked when you used a long sentence followed by a short one. It keeps a person focused on it.

Playing with it, did you notice in the first paragraph, if you reverse the first and second sentences, the second sentence leads right into the next paragraph?

There are a couple places though, that I stopped, wondering what you meant. If you want me to point them out, I will, but hesitate because I don't want to appear critical. I like it very much.
