Hey Everyone. Does any of you know someone serving in the military overseas? SO, I know your son in law is in the military, but is he overseas?

I have a postal APO box that is bought and pd for, and I was going to fill it with some soaps that were not the right size, or didnt come out perfect, but is still nice soap. I have about 50 bars or so, some have a chip off the corner, etc.. anyway I thought that would be nice and I think the box would fit about 30 bars, maybe more. I thought it could be shared with others once it arrived.

I remember my brother telling me that he always needed personal care items and some powdered drink mix cause he was sick to death of plain water when he was in Iraq. I figure its probably the same way to this day and it would be nice to donate it to them. If you do know, just pm me a name and address to send it to and I will ship it out next week

Hey guys, check out the link in this thread. I just read the linked recipe, but it sounds good. If the rest are this easy, it might be something to try.

I know what you mean. It's hard to know what to do. I checked recalls, ingredients, etc. and decided on Fresh Pet and my home made food that uses grass fed organic beef and buffalo, my own eggs, along with some Blue Buffalo for dry kibble. It would make me sick to think I'd harmed my dog with bad food. Until we have an at home laboratory though, guess there's a risk with anything. 8(

That's true. I think we all would do better if we did all our own cooking, but I know we won't. It's too easy to "just pick up" whatever. I know I do it. Then, it get's into how far do we take it? Do we grow/raise EVERYTHING? Someday, we'll have to do that, but now...who has the time?

Re: >>>>Sustainable Living PLUS Canning and Dehydrating Food<<<<
I used to make my own dog food for my dogs, it was a container of chicken livers, 4 cups uncooked rice, 3 eggs. Put it all in a pot of water and cook till the rice was done, then whiz it thru the blender of food processor, then I got a hand mixer like the kind used for smoothies, and it made it real easy to just whiz it in the pot.

That lasted my 3 scotties about a week and they loved it. Sometimes I added kibble to it after the cook to soften it and blend that in too, but the reason I made the food was that the dogs were allergic to the grains and would itch like crazy and tear off patches of hair and skin till they were bloody raw. After I started using the stuff above they never had the issues again.

How you must have loved those Scotties, Flav. They are the cutest dogs and smart as they can be. Bet they livened up your house!

Sounds like you had a real good food for them.

Pupster had a supposedly good dog food when he was growing the fastest, but I hated it. He too, itched. He had a special shampoo that helped, but I know it was the food. It was kind of a trade off in knowing it was bothering him, and making sure he got all he needed to develop the way he should. A person just doesn't know what to do, but I'm happy that eating what I consider a better diet now.

I give some liver each week, but only use the grass fed. Since the liver breaks down or modifies toxins, it makes me wonder how many are still in the liver when many drugs are given to the animals.

So much to be concerned about now, from pet food to human food and no matter how you try, there can still be problems.

My usual food is ground bison, beef, chicken or turkey. The chicken and turkey bones are used but sent through the grinder. To that I add ground carrots, boiled eggs with shell, ground, flax seed oil, some organ meats, and veggies, like carrots, brocoli, squash, or whatever.

The beef bones that would splinter are put in a pressure cooker til soft, then fed that way or ground and mixed with Total cereal.

Then it's bagged in daily servings and frozen.

Has anyone heard from Mama lately? Hope she's doing ok.

We'll stop talking dog. It's a terrible thing to want a dog and not have him. But, when you get him/her, you'll be glad for the time you waited and you'll be all the happier when you get him/her.

No need to answer this. Was just missing you and hoping you were well. We'll chat another time. Hugs to you!

Awww, Mama, you're just so sweet. It's going to be a lucky dog that finds a home with you. OK, we'll talk dogs.

Darn dogs anyway. Have to sweep all the time and keep them brushed. They stir up dust. Have to take them out in the freezing cold so they don't meet up with the night wildlife. Slopping through the snow and slush, tracking in mud, eating like pigs, always wanting to play ball. Flopping it in your lap, flinging it around the room. Drinking water and drooling about a cup as they walk away from the bowl. Having to hide your car keys so they don't flop them in your lap wanting a car ride, setting off the car alarm in the process. Staring at you while you shower.

Better now? dogpile

Yes he did Mama. They're kept out of his reach now, unless I leave my purse too low. He knows they're in there and brings the purse, so I've been hanging it up. Don't want to stop him from getting things because he's equally good at getting my inhaler when I need it. Sometimes, when half a toy box of toys piles up, one at a time,in my lap while online, it makes me reconsider.

Bet you do miss your crumb collector. What a sweetie and I hope your next one is just as good. It's really smart of you to wait until the little one is older. Way too much work to deal with both, and time consuming to teach both of them the limits of how they can treat each other and it only takes a second of not supervising for something to happen.

Is your little one liking school now? Hope things are going well so you can get a break.
