Don't forget, even though it seems like Obama has been the pResident for FOREVER (and EVER and EVER and..), he didn't actually begin his active de-construction of America until January of 2009.

So that thread came out when there were not nearly the number of people home canning as there are now to take notice. You know, the "good old days"! Just look at all the "first-timers" right here on THIS thread! I think people are feeling a sense of urgency that has not existed for about 75 years. So sad that the greater percentage of the Generations who knew all about this stuff have Gone Home. Their help would be invaluable right now. This is why it's such a great idea to get kids interested in gardening and preserving, even if it's just canning peaches. That's how I got started, when I was in my 30's.
