Hi,everyone! It's time for the crazy daughter update! Mom made it through everything ok. Her knee wasn't too bad. The doc got it cleaned out pretty well. The hard one is in 2 weeks. That's the hip replacement w/3-4 weeks of rehab. The doctor had pushed back her surgery a bit, but the office forgot to call us. We got there just after 6 and they didn't take her back until 8:30. Boy, was she p.o.'ed!

We found dad's cane. It was in my old room. Didn't even know he had been in there yesterday. It's now a glorified excersize/storage room now. I don't think dad even uses the treadmill anymore.

I don't believe the weather here! Almost 80! Too warm, too early. I like it, but I don't, if you know what I mean.

Poor big bro...I think he's feeling a little guilty. They're taking me to get pizza tonight. He really shouldn't feel badly, though. He's had to do all of this stuff for years by himself. Mom would never let me come and help before. She's always been miss independent.

Anyway, I'll be back around later tonight. Gotta get my doom before bed!!LOL Hope TG gets her electrical problems worked out soon. Eazy D...congrats! I read your work, but Nine's and Flav gave you much better advice than I would have. I didn't have time to reply at the time. I did like it. Glad you got a good grade! From what I see, I have great hopes for your generation! My kids, relatives, and others make me so proud. You all have great ideas and new insights. Don't let people ignore them. It's important!

Later, guys! My cursor keeps disappearing! I HATE black on black and tiny keyboards! But...love my son for letting me bring it with me!

You had wonderful, intelligent, thoughtful ideas and it's obvious that minds like yours will be a great contribution to the world. You have something to offer that's so badly needed and it's encouraging to read what you have to say. I know your instructor felt the same. It was very moving.

Thank you so much for letting us know. Was wondering how it went and hoping you'd get what you deserved. It sounds like you did. Be very proud, Eazy D. Very proud!

Crazy daughter update? I didn't know your Mom had two girls. Thought you were the only one. tounge

Glad your Mom made it through ok. Maybe it'll give her encouragement for what lies ahead. Shivers.

Wasn't it awesome about Eazy D? Agree completely that the entire generation owes some gratitude to EZD for being a shining example.

Glad your Dad has his cane back. Wonder if he was maybe in your old room doing a bit of reminiscing? Not that he'd admit to it, but it's one of those things to ponder on, isn't it? So often things aren't what they seem.

Today was SO awesome TB. I LOVED it! My temp gauge said 82 and it felt so nice. Sunny, gentle breeze, and spring in the air. Soooo grateful for it. Had my windows open all day while I was out sucking up the beauty. LOL.

That net book sounds challenging. Wonder if there's a setting in it to change the colors. Bet there is, somewhere hiding. It was so sweet of your son to let you use it. He must love you a bunch to part with an electronic for you! LOL.

Hope you and bro get a chance to maybe have a little time alone. It might be good to hear what they parents aren't saying and he'd probably like to know that you wanted to help to ease his burden. snicker snicker. Sorry. LOL.

I've been thinking about TG too and hope they got that electricity fixed. Sounded scary and dangerous. Been thinking about Tauranga too and hoping she's doing ok.

Thanks Nines

TB glad your mom came thru the first surgery well. Is she back at home?

Glad your able to get with your brother and work things out. You werent happy with him a few months ago if I remember correctly.

My house smells great tonight! I was at the herb store yesterday buying a bunch of stuff to put in these soaps I am going to make and also some that are being infused in oil as we speak. The aroma is awesome. I feel like I am in a fall/drying garden. Its my attempt to get natural colors in the soap. I also have some natural oxides but I really wanted to try this first. I am hoping to try a first batch tomorrow.

I am very excited and nervous. I bought a batch of melt and pour to do a trial run, that way if I screw it up Im not out alot of money in oils.

Packaging is turning out to be a large part of the cost. I found these awesome boxes that are clear, so you can see the soap thru the box and people arent touching the soap. They were 9 bucks for twenty five of them.

I thought that was pretty ok, then when I go to order the damn things the cheapest shipping I could find from the three places I could find that carry them was 10.18. Holy crap! Makes them not such a good idea!

How much could they possibly weigh? All the places with reasonable shipping dont carry them. I liked them cause they went well with the rest of the packaging I am using.

I thought of you the other day while thinking of making my twice yearly run to Lehman's hardward. It's an Amish store in southern Oh.

Was thinking they had soap molds there. Was picturing some wooden ones, but when I checked the catalog it only showed plastic ones. The one that caught my attention that I thought you might be interested in was an oval with scalloped edges.

It would be real easy to wrap that shape in saran wrap and put a mini ribbon around it. Hardly any cost to buy or ship. They make some cute little herbal stickers too. If you wanted to dress it up, you could put a sticker with the type herb instead of the ribbon. Just something for you to think about.

Most of the hand crafted soaps I've seen don't have any elegant or fancy packaging. At Lehmans, the soaps have nothing. They're stocked in bins/baskets and you just take one out. Maybe simpler is better especially considering the theme? You know, it's so "back to nature" and nature doesn't offer a lot in the way of packaging. 8)

Thanks everyone it means a lot to me.

I guess I don't give myself enough credit--I have been down on myself lately!!

My professor told me that I need to get more involved in school and there IS people who think like me.

The thing is, I really don't like school. I have never been a school person, always smart and whatever, but never, ever wanted to go to college. Working up the motivation to go participate in groups, meetings, and socialize with other students is foreign to me.

Don't get me wrong--I am a highly charismatic person, but I have always associated myself with the 'unambitious group'--most of my buddies are musicians, no one I hang out with goes to school, a lot of temptation with marijuana...ya know.

I'm almost 21. Maybe a new direction in my life is due?? Maybe that is why I have been kinda depressed lately (besides stupid girl drama lol). I'm taking a singing class next quarter for fun--I am a good musician but lack the skill to sing so hopefully it will get me outta my comfort zone ya know?

Enough about me...I just wanna be like you all and know how to cook, dehydrate, and live on my OWN!!!! I feel blocked from my dreams at this moment by focusing on classes.

Anyway, thanks again my dear friends I feel a bit better today than I have been lately.

It's a terrible feeling to be down on yourself. Probably all of us can relate to that feeling. Probably one of the most unproductive, frustrating and depressing feelings.
It doesn't sound that you're giving yourself enough credit. It sounds like your plate is very full with activities and plans. That takes a lot of time, organization and motivation. We sometimes run short on one or more, and that's ok.

There's a time and season for everything. Because you're focusing on school right now doesn't mean you're blocked from your dreams. You're just adding to your skills. Because you're doing it now doesn't mean it's forever.

I think your Prof saw something in you that others also see. Now it's YOU that needs to see it. Hang in there. You're doing great. Thanks for sharing your life. You have a lot to teach us.

Ugh... SO JEALOUS! I want to go there soooo badly. I just told my birthday girl and she said, "can I come, we can go to cedar point". She went there a few yrs ago with some friends for summer break instead of the regular crazy Florida beaches.

I like the kraft paper look, with just a band and a label. I was thinking of that with the label like the ones on the cap of the creams holding the wrapper on.

I totally suck at saran wrap. For some reason it likes to stick to me more than it likes to stick to what I am trying to wrap. I had another idea too, but the soap wouldnt show at all. Wrapping it in a coffee filter (round ones) with the same sticker holding it shut.

I will get it figured out, it wont be wrapped in a ribbon, thats to time consuming for me, and gift wrapping isnt one of my favorite things.

I am going to get a few loaf molds, but for the moment I have been using the bottom of a plastic 4 oz cup, kind of like what you put catchup in from a fast food place and putting them in tins. I just wanted to use up these tins I have, not sure if I will change the packaging on these lotion bars yet or not.

I have also figured out how to make a perfume solid, which excites me too. I am not gonna get to crazy on that just yet, I want to get the soap down first.

I wish there was a place local to get some of this stuff and save on shipping.

Life has a way of leading you towards your dreams. Its up to you to realize it.

Living on your own is a great goal, and it will happen sooner or later, the question is can you be patient and get thru school or to a point in school where having to commit to a lot of work hours to afford being on your own is worth it.

You should seek out some of the other students in groups, there are all sorts of them and you will find people in each group who have other interests that may be simular to yours.

Both my girls were the same as you, although they got into study groups to make the workload easier, they made some really good friends with a few of them, they spend weekends together at clubs or the beach and other fun stuff, and one of my daughters met her boyfriend in a calculus study group.

It started out with studying and craming for tests, (daughter is not a good math student) and they have been together officially for about 7 months, but were friends for a year before that.

Yes, Flavapor, I'm sure you will get it figured out. I love your labels. They shout quality and the product follows up. You'll do equally well on the soaps!

You'd like barking_wolf.come with lotsa money. Many things there that are hard or impossible to find in other places.

I will have to check it out. I do want to make alot of the natural soaps, but also want to make some of the colorful swirly soaps.

I found a place today thats only about an hour and a half away, near my inlaws that has all sorts of amazing butters. I need to make a trip there.

They must have about 30 different types. All the normal ones and exotic ones too, orange, tangerine, lemon, lime butter. Makes me want to eat it. They look like a sorbet on the website. They are naturally scented from the citrus too. Love that!

Oooh, that sounds like a great place to visit too. You are SO creative!

Guess the Amish Hardware store name alone isn't allowed or something. It substituted barking wolf. When I used the name and Hardware together, it posted. Will have to try to remember that....but I won't. LOL.

PS Don't eat the soaps. You're bubbly enough. 8)

Re: >>>>Sustainable Living PLUS Canning and Dehydrating Food<<<<
Hi everyone. I'm just taking a break from all the honey-do's. Mom's getting around pretty well already today. We can take the bandage off tomorrow, so we'll see what's what. It shouldn't be too bad, since they used a scope. Just 2 little holes. I think big bro isjust burnt out taking care of everything and everybody over the years. It started when Dave and I got married. Everyone had to take care of my grandparents. Grampa had alzheimers and gram had congestive heart disease. Both my brothers had to restrain my grampa a few times. Big bro keeps an eye on our niece and nephews since little bro died 4 years ago. He had to deal with all the funeral stuff for little bro. It was a mess. Little bro's boys are grown and my niece lives with her mom, so she's ok.

TG, I have a whole new appreciation for what you've done this past year or so. My parent's are breaking my heart. I find myself fighting tears. When we decided to stay in Texas, everyone was alive, healthy, and employed. It's been tough for big bro to keep everyone steady. Now I wonder if it's time to give up my little piece of heaven. I'm not sure it will be so heavenly for some time, but it sure is affordable. Unlike here! House prices are coming down, but still not enough for us.

Flav, it truly sounds like you've found your niche! I'm still looking for mine. I know how Eazy D feels. We've moved so many times over the years and I waited for the kids to grow up. Now I just don't know what I will do for this next phase of my life. Oh,well...it has to wait for a few, but it gives me a little more time to think.

I'll try to catch up with you all later on. Laundry calls! I decided a while ago, my new name is Ma "Cinderella" Kettle! Gotta giggle, beats the alternative!! Later!

Glad your mom is doing well today. Aging parents are a real dilemma. Its heart breaking to see them how they are because in your head they are still as they were when you were younger. The circle of life!

I have been very lucky that my mom is in such good health, there are good genes on that side of the family, my grandmother is 96 and you would guess her at 70-75. Shes sharp as a whip and kicks my ass at scrabble all the time!

I hope you are enjoying some of your time there. You will find something to keep you busy and happy, it just may have to wait till you get thru this.

You have Em, and I know that makes you very happy!

Hey, Flav. I'm a couple of hours south of TG. It's storming, but near as I know there weren't any sighted tornadoes. T-storms we got, lots of rain. Too bad we can't get it down to Texas!! I'm worried about Tauranga. It seems no one has heard from her.

Glad to hear your not in harms way and she wasnt either. Yes I agree, Tauranga doesnt usually stay gone so long. I hope she is just on vacation or something. I thought maybe the net was down, but its been 5 days so I doubt it.

They've had some watches and warnings up there. The 6 pm news said there was a tornado, but no sightings and I couldn't see it on the radar. The weatherman didn't point it out either. Boy, it sure is raining though.

T said something awhile ago about a vacation, but I don't think she would have gone without telling someone.
