What stinks is, our pick up has been sitting for almost a year. Our SIL is going to fix it, but just now has found the parts. He'll take it back with them when they come home for Thanksgiving. Hopefully, we'll have it back for Christmas. We live 13 miles from anywhere, so it's pretty crummy. To make it worse, there's no where else to take the car anymore. We used to have a couple of mechanics, but they retired. The kids in town aren't very good and it's too expensive to tow the car into the city.
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

I can't imagine the tow bill for 13 miles! We had to have our youngest daughter's car towed 3 miles to a repair shop and it was $125. Living in a small town or out in the country is cool, until something like that happens. Kind of like computers...they are awesome until they don't work and cost an arm and a leg to fix.

I'm trying not to think about it. They haven't even LOOKED at it yet. Talk about computers, I think that's why Nines hasn't been on. She said something about her computer acting up. I think I'll call her this weekend.

I hope everything is ok with Nine's. Seems like people are dropping like flies lately. I still can't believe Tiny Green has been gone for so long, and her membership is still paid up!

Gotta log off for tonight. A hot bath and some of Flava's best face cream is calling my name! Time for this lady to pamper herself a bit. Seems like the world is sucking out a bit of my soul daily so I'm going to fight back!

I'm pretty sure Nine's is ok. I haven't gotten any e-mails from her, that's why I think her "puter died. She's pretty independent. I hope you get to meet her some day. She's amazing.

I don't know what to think about TG. I don't know how much longer her membership is paid for. Maybe her sister is paying it? I don't know. I hope she's ok. She's one of the reasons I got a gold star.

Hi everyone, it sounds like everyone is very busy and stressed.

I'm sure you are too, Mama, but you don't tell as much as we do, Mama. Speak up! Is the little one liking school any better? I sure hope so, for your sake as well as hers.

Good to see you EazyD. Hope your summer has been great. Bet you're already planning next years garden. Are you in, or out, of school right now?

Flavapor, I'm so sorry about your little kitty and about Jake. It's so sad to see them like that. Hard enough to be in pain yourself, but to see your child suffer is another thing completely. You know the pain they feel and it adds to yours.

I hope your daughter had a vet she trusts and who will give her an honest opinion of what kind of outcome can be expected. It might make a difference to her on how she decides to handle it...or it might not. It's hard to not let emotions overrule logic. Our pets mean so much to us. Hope things are going better now.

SO, I'm sorry about your daughter and sil too. Has to be disappointing for all of you....and maddening. Hope it doesn't interfere with your plans to be wtih them at the holidays.

TB, you know me. LOL. Just disappear sometimes. Sometimes it would be nice to disappear a lot more too! Those days you're overworked, stressed, trying to look at the bright side of things, and when you feel you won't make it through another day, someone calls and needs some kind of help. Makes us feel good to do it, but sometimes it's about the last straw. LOL.

People sure are under a lot of tension lately.

Haven't been reading too much online but keep thinking about that LA sinkhole, crops, weather, etc. Have to catch up on things. As bad as things seemed, it should have already fallen apart and be on the way to being mended. LOL.

Things are pretty normal here. Dudely has decided he kind of likes the attic space over the kitchen for winter so he removed a few tiles, made a large opening for his fat behind to fit through, and proceeded to gnaw his way in and set up housekeeping. UGH. I'm convincing him the garage attic is a better choice.

Stay safe, healthy and happy everyone. There's always a bright side. My eyes are narrowed down to slits squinting to try and see that bright side sometimes but keep on looking people. It's there. Really. Honest. chuckle

Hey, you!!! Glad to "see" you! I was so afraid your 'puter died on you. Animal weirdness this weekend for sure. My newly adopted momma and 2 kittens have decided they only want to lay in the wastebasket. They started that yesterday.

We don't have our car back yet, but they did give us a loner last Friday. It was supposed to be done today, but NOT. Sometimes living out in BFanywhere is a pain!

That's not a good place for da kitties. They could go bye bye in the trash!! What a horrible thought!

When do you expect to get the car back? Isn't it odd how even if you seldom use it, when it's gone, it's like you're in a desolate, isolated wilderness and don't know the way out? LOL!!

They were supposed to have it fixed by noon yesterday. No word yet. Hubs said we have their loner, so they have incentive to get ours fixed. Idk. It's supposed to just be the fuel pump. It's not brain surgery, we just don't have to right equipment/tools to do it ourselves. Plus, it's in the fuel tank. It's just easier for them to fix it, with the lift and all the rest. We used to have a really good indie mechanic, but he retired about 5 years ago. We can't find anyone else around here. Too many kids that THINK they're mechanics.

Oh wow, TB. Learn something new every day. I thought the fuel pump was under the hood with the line that gas goes through.

Maybe it is in the tank. Hmmm. Remember when my son was grousing about having to take his tank off and drain out the gas to get to something in there to fix it. Sounds like it's a real chore. Hope they get it fixed for you real soon.

Sucks to not have someone you can count on to fix something like that. Feel so fortunate here to have a really good garage guy. Small town but really good. He's always done my oil every 2,000. miles and he notices things, like when the tires need rotated or the fluids need something, I don't know, just stuff. LOL. But am very grateful to have him. Wish you had someone like that near you!

That's what we used to have. I guess there's just not enough money in it anymore and everything is so electronic/computerized these days. It'll get fixed, they gave us a 2013 for a loner. I hope they don't think we're going to buy the darn thing!LOL It's hard to get in and out of! Poor D had to stay at the hotel all last week, until I called the dealership and let loose on them. I decided I'd make a really lousy hermit last week, too. Are you watching the pinned explosion threads? I tried to find something on the online scanner, but nothing. Be right back.

Yeah, the colors are coming. 8( Along with wind, cold, wet, winter. Sniff.

Dudely will move. Will just make the garage more appealing to him. Nice entrance thorough a chimney there. Think he likes that area because he can see when food is delivered to his "old" home. LOL. If I trim a couple branches, he can still have a view from the garage chimney. I've seen him up there before and wiped his prints off sons motorcycle in the garage, so he knows his way around there. 8)

Good Morning Everyone!

I love the story about Dudely and the attic! He sure does not want to stray too far from his Mama! It made me smile!
I'm sorry I missed chatting with you and TB, Nines.
I'm back on the hamster wheel again since school has started. Constantly running and to top it off, the dryer and the dishwasher are both OUT! Trying to get my little embroidery business going, but the toddler likes to climb all over everything, and by the time everyone is asleep...so am I. I end up falling asleep when I lay down with the little one. Out I go and sometimes I stay there until morning and start the whole process over again!
Anyways, hope to catch up with you all soon! Missing you all!

Wow nines! I just love hearing your animal drama, makes me laugh. Maybe you could get a tv show.

If they have honeyboo boo and all that other crazy shit on tv, why not!

I have been really busy with Jake. He's back in the hospital as of today. He came home tuesday with insulin and has been up and down since then, today he was feeling really badly again so I took him to the vet and he checked his sugar and sent me on my way to the hospital.

He has lost 3 lbs since mid september and he was only 8 lbs then, so thats almost half his body weight. Things are just not looking good and I wish my daughter would let nature take its course. He's not a young dog and she has already spent almost 5 grand on him in the last month and they estimate about 3 more for this hospital stay.

She has basically been spending all the money she has been saving for a down payment on a house.

Sometimes its hard to just keep my mouth shut, but I am gonna do it this time.

Mama I remember those treadmill days! Running like a nut and never getting finished, most importantly never getting what you want to get done cause something else must be done. Totally sucks. I was watching modern family the other night and they were talking about 5 more yrs till the youngest was out of the house and they could do what they wanted, I looked at Pete and said "our 5 yrs is 4 yrs overdue"

TB hope you get the car back soon. Are you taking advantage of being less mobile? I think I am the only person who likes to have the excuse of not having a car to just stay home and either indulge myself or do stuff that needs doing.

Aww, Mama, you've always got kind words for someone. Wish you could know how much it means to a person. Thank you, but actually, I think Dudely is more concerned with being close to his food source and keeping a watchful eye on it so he can snare it before something else does. LOL.

It's hard to imagine trying to start a business with young children. It would be exciting, frustrating and hopefully soon it will be rewarding. Congrats to you! I know you'll have great success if you can hang on to your sanity! LOL.

Sure do hope you get your appliances fixed soon. I don't have or want a dishwasher, but would hate to be without a dryer.

How in the world are you managing to get the kids clothes done? Arrrrgh. That, in itself is an exhausting thought. As dry as it's been most of the summer, perfect for drying clothes outdoors, now it's getting humid. Laundromats suck and even if they have a ton of clothes and you can prolong not doing laundry, it's always on your mind that the mountain of clothes is growing.

Doesn't it always seen that when your plate is piled so high you don't know what to do, something comes and dumps more? Adding dish washing for a family has to be near the final straw. Ugh.

Make sure with all the hustle and bustle that you have "some" time for yourself that you don't have to do for or think of others. That's probably impossible for you, but it's really important to take care of yourself. You won't do anyone any good if you're sick. Wish I could do something to help you.

Rest every chance you get and remember, all those things will get done eventually, so try not to worry about things. It all works out in the end. And when it does work out, you want to be healthy and able to appreciate it. Hugs to you.

Aww, Flav, another one with full hands and busy schedule. It has to be hideously hard to sit back and see all that money being spent. It sounds like an incredible amount! I'm hoping you meant 3 hundred dollars for his current hospital stay, and not 3 thousand, but it doesn't sound like it.

Wonder what they're doing and what kind of medicine they're giving him for that kind of money. Is the vet one she's used for a time and trusts, or has she gotten another opinion and estimate? It sounds so high.

Either way, if there's a bright side, it's that your dear, sweet daughter will know she did all she could do. The money might be buying more than dog care.

It could be buying time. Time that I'm sure she needs, to come to terms with what may be. You can't put a price on that.

Time to give her a chance to deny what is obvious to others, time to worry, hurt, hope, and finally accept when the time comes to make one of the hardest decisions we've ever made. I hope it doesn't come to that for her. My heart goes out to your daughter.....and you. It's so hard.

Thanks for sharing because I've been thinking about Jake and wondering how he's doing. You and your daughter will be in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself.....so you can take care of Jake. You're a good Mom, Flav. 8)

Thanks Nines.

Yes, she is determined to do all she can do. This is actually a vet hospital. You cant go there without being sent by your regular vet. This past month, he has been there often, I think they should name a wing after him.

It is horrible to watch him go from a hyper ankle bitter type high strung dog to a docile do nothing dog in one short month.

I know I am not a vet, but my intuition is that he doesnt need this insulin and that his liver has been bombarded by all the medications. All this started with the injections for the skin. He had chronic staff infection that would come right back when off antibiotics, we had it cultured and a "vaccine" type medicine was made for him. Our vet had concerns about giving it to him cause it was so powerful and he had us put him on b vits and milk thistle for a month before we started the treatment and still is on them. He said because this stuff could cause liver damage, which do show up in his labs at this point.

He was dx with pancreatitis, then has had episodes with the gluc levels being sky high and was put on insulin. A very low dose, but it seems to me that even the small dose brings his sugar down to low.

I think he needs to detox, although, if I am wrong does he go into a diabetic coma? There isnt a way for me to test gluc in the blood without taking him to the vet and its not accurate in urine to check for it.

Oh wow, Flav, it sounds terrible. I'm so sorry you guys are going through this and hope there's some help for Jake real soon.

When they treated his skin problems, did they by any chance treat with corticosteroids? Also, have they checked him for Cushings disease? It can be hard to diagnose, but if he had corticosteroids, then those symptoms, I'd sure want it checked. It would tie in with the pancreatitis and diabetes symptoms and also with your feelings that he doesn't need the insulin.

Hope you'll keep us informed. I keep thinking about the little guy.

It is so hard to watch an animal go through this. They can't speak and tell us what is wrong. We lost our "old" kitty from kidney failure and it was heart breaking. We did the best we could and spent a small fortune at the vet in the process. If I get to that point I will invoke the Oregon Assisted Suicide Law. It's a prescription for the terminally ill. You get to choose the day you say "enough is enough".

Re: >>>>Sustainable Living PLUS Canning and Dehydrating Food<<<<
It is hard, SO and I'm sorry about your kitty.

It's hard to see them grow old, and find the little puppy that drove you crazy is getting gray around his muzzle, or that you notice he's favoring a leg. Or a myriad of other things that are painful to see as they grow older. Though it hurts us, it doesn't seem to affect their joy for life or will to live.

True they can't tell us what's wrong, but they do speak to us if we only listen and those that are close to them know when they don't want to go on.

It sounds like you had a horrible experience with your kitty. That's very sad and something that affects a person for life. I've been fortunate that no decisions that had to be made, were regretted.

Many people think when an animal has cancer they should be euthanized and not "tortured" with chemo or other life prolonging methods.

When my last dog had cancer, he had chemo and for him, it was good. He lived a quality life and it prolonged his life by months. He could have gone longer, but as I said, "we know" when they're only going on for us. That was my dogs last day.

Right now I'm dealing with my sons 19 yr. old cat. He's been at the vet every day this week, is going again today, and is being syringe fed every 3 hrs. He's too sick to even run tests to see what the main problem is.

He's lived 19 yrs. and many would say let him go. He's had a long life. True, but it's been a good life and he's still happy. He's lost a lot of weight and looks horrible, but there's a light in his eyes and he rubs his face on my knee and it's obvious that he has no desire to die.

My vet agrees, and he wouldn't lie to me. I know that. Not for money, not for anything. If an animal is suffering, he'd tell me and I'd do what had to be done.

If you looked at him right now, you'd wonder how anyone could be so cruel to keep him alive. He's deaf and doesn't hear my comforting words, but he still feels love.

Maybe he'll live, maybe he won't, but as long as he's not suffering, he'll get every chance to see what can be done for him. A couple weeks, to me, isn't too much to hang in and hope for recovery and a few more years of oogling birds out the window.

It's a sad subject, but one we all have to face, and we have to face it alone. All we can offer someone going through it, is support and understanding.

I wish things had been different for you. It would be so hard to think back and wish you'd made a different choice. But you made the one that was right for you at the time. And that's all any of us can do.

Such lovely words Nines! It is the twinkle in an animal's eyes that makes the decision on what to do such a hard one. It is so hard when you see that and know they are not feeling well, but still have the zest for life!

Re: >>>>Sustainable Living PLUS Canning and Dehydrating Food<<<<
You guys are so cool. Glad to be able to talk on here and voice my opinion. Jake is supposed to come home tomorrow, he has been on the insulin they gave us for just one day again, so I am hesitant to take him back.

They give him IV fluids and fast acting, short lasting insulin to stablize him then he feels better and they send him home. The problem is after the third day he starts to get bad again. Anyway, yes they did check him for cushings and he doesnt have it, although, I really thought he did cause his hair is thin, but it always has been sort of thin.

The pancreatitis is what keeps acting up and I have read that no food or drink by mouth for at least 3 wks to let it heal is the treatment, but he cant stay there for that long at the prices they charge. He is a loveable dopey little dog that doesnt realize hes not a pit bull when it comes to me or his mama. Maybe he has had something going on to a lesser extent for yrs, cause he really is "untrainable", yet hes not stupid when he wants something.

He is the rescue dog that has had so many problems and I cant help but think what did he do in previous lives to be dealt the life he has had. He has used up more than 9 lives!
