Hello every one, nice to see some locals on glp, been here for years.
any way my story goes...
had and have two young beautiful smart girls, 2008 happened, then I decided to become conservative and prepared, plus sustainable living is the only reasonable answer for the need i felt, so i have got land, garden 2 X 5000 sf plots, 2 geodesic dome green houses, all from scraps recycled, livestock, and still work my butt off just to spend all my spare time farming organicly or with my kids. from So. You guys are so cool. Glad to be able to talk on here and voice my opinion. Jake is supposed to come home tomorrow, he has been on the insulin they gave us for just one day again, so I am hesitant to take him back.

They give him IV fluids and fast acting, short lasting insulin to stablize him then he feels better and they send him home. The problem is after the third day he starts to get bad again. Anyway, yes they did check him for cushings and he doesnt have it, although, I really thought he did cause his hair is thin, but it always has been sort of thin.

The pancreatitis is what keeps acting up and I have read that no food or drink by mouth for at least 3 wks to let it heal is the treatment, but he cant stay there for that long at the prices they charge. He is a loveable dopey little dog that doesnt realize hes not a pit bull when it comes to me or his mama. Maybe he has had something going on to a lesser extent for yrs, cause he really is "untrainable", yet hes not stupid when he wants something.

He is the rescue dog that has had so many problems and I cant help but think what did he do in previous lives to be dealt the life he has had. He has used up more than 9 lives!

Oh Flava,
Poor little Jake! I do hope they figure out what is going on with him so you don't have to keep bringing him back and forth like that! Give him a pat for me!
Ok, and a big smooch too!

Isn't it great how many special people are on this thread? So many kind hearted, thoughtful people.

Thanks for the update on Jake. Guess it's good he doesn't have Cushings, but at least you'd know, and a pill a day doesn't seem like a bad alternative to what's going on now. Even the detached retina would go with Cushings.

Guess they probably checked for thyroid issues too. Hope it's resolving itself and that he's maintaining. Maybe after a while, he won't get bad again after 3 days. Sure hope so.

DS's cat I told you about it hanging in there. He's been at the vets every day this week, including today, to get sub q fluids. Can't figure why he can't stay hydrated.

My main dread was kidney disease, which is real common in older cats, but thankfully, that came back fine. Today was the best he's been in a while. He's looking a lot better, but as bad as he was, that's not saying much. LOL.

Ever seem like your entire life revolves around stuffing food, meds, or liquid down the throat of someone?

Hang in there, Flav. Hoping it all works out and Jake will be back snarling at anyone who comes near you. peace

Hi guys! Just popped in for a few to see what's happening. Flav, I'm so sorry to read about your dog. When the vet today us Mattie had lymphoma, the boys and I were beyond crushed. We were able to keep her about a month after the diagnosis. We all still miss her so much, even though we have the crazy Buddie! Sometimes a pet comes along that is just so much more than a pet.

I'm sorry I havent' been typing lately. I was trying to catch the crud that's going around, plus it's cotton harvest time and that means allergies! Got that taken care of. The big thing is the stress from hubs job has triggered a super flare-up with the fibro for me. Plus, our car was held hostage for a week and a half by the Ford house. Hubs was at the hotel and I was out here for a week alone. I make a LOUSY hermit! We got a loner after a week and got our car back last Wednesday. All over a lousy fuel pump.

Nines', I may be back up your way sooner than I thought, but I don't know yet. Dad isn't doing well. He has a major test this week, so we'll have to see what they say. I'm worried he might not make it through the winter. He shouldn't be with us now. He had a massive heart attack back in '90 that they called us home for and alot of other serious stuff over the years. So, I'm glad he's been here long enough for us to make peace with each other. We're still hoping to come home in July for my nephew's wedding, but that's up in the air right now, too. I wanted to rent something on the lake for everyone, but wow, the prices! I'm just waiting until after Christmas. I hope I'll know how many can go by then.

Anyway, just wanted to let you all know I'm still here and reading. Typing isn't a problem this time, just was having a downer couple of weeks and didn't want to spread the "fun". grouphug

Mama, I was wrong as usual. He's only 16 I guess. Could have sworn he was 19, but the vet has 16 on his record and he neutered him as a kitten so he must be right. Since they have it on their records, wonder why each time they ask how old someone is. Maybe it's a sly, demented alzheimers test. If so, I failed. LOL.

Flavapor, it's such good news about Jake. Hope he continues to get better and better. So glad to hear about your back to back shows too. Must be nerve wracking for a while, but what a successful feeling after the exhaustion wears off. Congrats to you.

TB, sure do hope things turn out well for your Dad. It's hard enough having the health problems you're having, without having to deal with his right now. It's so darn hard to have a decent mental attitude caring for someone when you can hardly function yourself.

Maybe it'll turn out to be good news, or at least not bad news. Glad you got your car back too. Think I could easily be a hermit. Actually, it sounds quite refreshing right now. LOL.

Take care of yourselves everyone.

Re: >>>>Sustainable Living PLUS Canning and Dehydrating Food<<<<
Nines,
16 is up there for a cat! Although, it seems so short for us people! I just love cats so much! I never had one growing up, and then I went away to college and that is where I met my first feline love!
She was abandonned by someone at the apartment complex where I lived. We saw each other and it was love at first sight! Me longing for a furry friend in my life and her longing for basic survival needs. We befriended each other immediately. LONG story short, she was pregnant, had her kittens, and took me to them in a bush in front of someones window at 10pm at night. I looked like a peeping Tom, or should I say Thomasina in the bushes with a flashlight. There were 2 little kittens and some poor soldier (base nearby) was moving to Germany the next day and offered me a pet carrier to cart the kittens home. Again, LONG story short, I ended up getting the kittens adopted out and kept the Mama! I loved her dearly. She had to be euathanized at the age of 16 because she had this massive tumor in her gut! I cried for weeks and weeks. Hubs gave the approval and we went to get a new kitty from the Humane Society. He is like a dog and is the best cat! He is so funny. He comes when you whistle or call for him. He plays outside with the kids and follows you everywhere!
I think he was heaven sent!
Thanks for letting me share that!

Awww, Mama. Thank you for sharing that beautiful story. Had tears in my eyes reading it. What a blessing to kitty and to you, and wasn't it sweet of that guy to give you a carrier to get them home!

It's so special that the kitty knew you were the person she could show her kittens and get help for them. Though it was a chore and probably hard to part with the kittens, it sure was an honor that she chose you.

Just restores my faith in humanity. So glad you got another one that sounds just as special. I just wuvs you so much Mama. You're so awesome!!

Don't you be answering this right now. You should have been in bed. Those mornings come real early! Hugs! hugs

Re: >>>>Sustainable Living PLUS Canning and Dehydrating Food<<<<
Hi everyone. Thanks for the love! I sure did need it this week. First, the good news. We'll find out the 14th what the new grandbaby will be!

The rest of the news is kind of doomy, unfortunatly. My little great-niece has a fractured clavicle. This is the one that's 1 month older than Em. Seems she has a thing for the large slippery slides and she's not even 2 yet! Her mom and aunt took her to the park the other day and she got away from them. She scooted right up the ladder on the slide and fell off. She'll be ok in a couple of weeks, mom said. Her dad had a fit, but I told my mom, he better settle down about it. One of these days, something will happen on HIS watch with our little tom-boy!

The news on dad isn't good. He has massive blockage. Talking to mom, I'm not sure if it's veins or arteries, but it starts in his lower belly where it branches off into his legs. The doctor told him not to get ANY type of cuts or sores on his legs or feet or it will go gangrenous (sp?). He has almost no circulation in his legs and can barely walk now. They are going to do some kind of needle test, maybe a biopsy?, in a few weeks. Mom was having a really hard time keeping up with what dad and the doctor were talking about. I think I'm going to have to call big bro and see what he knows. He drove them, so hopefully, dad told him what was going on.

THEN, my favorite aunt has just found out her cancer has moved into her brain. She isn't allowed to drive anymore, in case she has a seizure. Mom talked to her today, and she said she is ready to go. She is getting the rest of her affairs in order. I hate this. My aunt is the most cheerful, positive person I've ever known. I'm so glad I was able to spend time with her when I was up there. Thankfully, I already knew how to play dominos, 'cause my aunt and her friends are killer players! It was a little odd, haning out with some of my dad's old girlfriends, though!LOL

I really hate that I'm so far away from them all, but mom said she doesn't need me right now. I don't agree, but I have to honor her decision. I think she's starting to show some signs of alzheimer's, but bro doesn't agree with me. It runs heavily on her side of the family and she's having a hard time with things lately. I've noticed it for awhile, but only dad agrees with me.

SO...here I sit, waiting. It's all they'll let me do. I have all the free time in the world and I felt better when I was up there rushed off my feet. I don't wait well.

Ok, enough of the latest chapter in the Great American Novel! Thanks, guys, for letting me download on you all. I haven't had a chance to tell the kids yet. I just hope dad can hold on until my nephew's wedding in July. I have to get everyone up there somehow. Nine's, what is the new name of the campground, again? Maybe they'll have a couple of cottage open then. Not exactly the lake, but still a nice place. It was good enough for us when we were kids!

Awww, what a load you have to bear right now, TB. You need to take care of yourself now so that when you're needed most, you'll be able to make it.

Glad to hear you don't need to come now. Weather will start becoming unpredictable soon, and you don't need the added stress right now. To even think of coming with the way you're feeling, imagine how it will be when you get here. Away from your home, animals, hubs, kids, and your own home and bed. It's not going to do you any good when you can't get a decent nights rest. Bad enough when you're well, be thankful you have time to get on the mend yourself.

So sorry to hear about everything. Seems that when it rains, it pours. And pours, and pours.

The campground is Fire Lake. Haven't checked the Islands prices lately, but the condo's on the lake are reasonable. Thing is, it's so commercialized, there and the islands. The campground is peaceful. Many peaceful places around that you can relax and visit.

Take care of yourself, and thank you for sharing. Everyone is bearing a heavy load right now, and it seems lighter when we share. I'm so glad you did. Hugs to you! hugs

Thanks Nine's. I just googled the campground. Wow, has it changed! Maybe I'll keep looking on the bay or Marblehead. Tricky part is, we could have 10 or 11 of us, so whatever we rent has to be big enough. I'm not going to worry about it until after Christmas, though. I don't think it'll be too late, at least I hope not. I just want my dad to be able to see the newest little one and that's the earliest they can go. What will be, will be, I guess. I'm not going to put more on my plate for now, than I have to.

The weather is getting turned toward winter here, too. 90+ deg. today and lower 50's by Friday. Typical West Texas!

I guess I better get off of here and get some sleep. Got some outside stuff to get done tomorrow, before the next cold front. OMG, the SPIDERS this year!!!! I have to get the hose back out and spray the tar out of the outside of the house. I've NEVER seen so many spiders as this year! I need to do some caulking, too. I've never done windows before, it ought to be interesting! At least it'll be more forgiving than when I did around the tub! Catch you all in the daylight.

YW, TB. Fire Lake won't have anything for 10 or 11. You ever been to Maumee Bay State Park? They have some awesome cottages and a lodge. Haven't checked lately but they were very reasonable. Think they book way ahead though. It's a real nice place.

If you wanted to drive a ways, there's Lake Hope. You could rent a house type cottage there for about the same as a decent motel. The scenery is awesome, nice lake, (no gas motors on it) and horseback riding nearby. Doubt if that would appeal to the fam, but it's a real relaxing, but fairly isolated place. You'll travel some weavy roads in the boonies to get there.

Too late to think much, but I'll ponder it. There's bound to be something that would suit everyone in a reasonable price. You are super smart to not put any more on your plate right now than you have to. Seems the more you put on, it becomes like quicksand, just sucking you down.

Enjoy that 90 degrees. It sounds heavenly. 50's, not so much. LOL.

Need to get a lot done here too. Things just keep popping up demanding attention before I can get to the routine things. Frustrating isn't it? Ah well, guess we can handle whatever comes our way can't we? LOL.

Rest well, TB. Nite.

Hi All! I was down for a few days with a stomach flu (probably picked it up visiting dad at the hospital). Looks like it's probably Crohn's disease for dad. Not good, but manageable. It's really hard to watch the parents age. Dad is a really strong man so it's hard to see him get knocked down like this.

Went up to my mother in law's house last night and one of my sister in laws joined us as well. We made up a batch of zucchini relish. We did the grinding last night and the cooking/canning today. It's a sweet relish that uses zucchini, onions, and bell peppers. We canned 26 pints. It is so yummy...I can't buy relish at the store anymore because our home made stuff is sooooo much better.

TB - sorry to hear your dad isn't doing well. I know how hard that is.

Flava - The dog is doing better? My youngest seems to be a lot like your daughter. She will go to great lengths to "save" an animal.

Nine's - You are such an inspiration to me! Always kind words and you seem to know what to say to make us feel better.

Is you daughter adjusting to MO? The cooler weather has finally hit here! I think the days of 80's are over!

Hi, SO. You are so kind.

So sorry to hear about your Dad, and about your stomach flu. Such stress for everyone. The stress we have for others so often reflects in our own bodies. It's easy, when someone has a diagnosis, to put that person ahead of you. Take it easy for a while and take care of yourself so you don't have a relapse.

Hi Mamma! I talked to my daughter tonight. She is loving Missouri. Still adjusting to the thunder storms though. They are so much louder than we are used to.

That is the truth Nine's. I was running from home to work to the hospital, back to work, then to the hospital again. I don't think I had dinner ready before 9pm or so. Stress is the real killer. At least with a diagnosis it's better than not knowing. It's always easier to deal with the known than the unknown.

She posted a short video clip of the thunder and lightning. Wow! Your average storm is much louder than our severe storms out here. She loves the rural area, and went to an amish/menonite auction. She is quite taken with them. She just started a photography business so I had to warn her about taking their pictures. That really confused her, she did not understand how that would be bad. She just did not understand how it could be seen as evil. LOL

She is fascinated by the ones in Windsor, that is close to the base. I warned her about the pics so she wouldn't offend anyone.

Guys, I don't want to make a big deal about this, but I'm sure this is our girl!! I can't get just my post to copy, so look towards the top/middle for my first post. In the quote box is a post from Middle of the mitten. Read that. Do you think the same thing I do? I sure do think it's her! I'm SO glad she's ok!

I don't know why she's posting under a different # and as an AC, but I'm just glad to get some news.

Hope everyone that's in the storm area is safe. Love you all.grouphug
