We had to work our little town's Christmas parade last night. It was so warm, we didn't need coats until it was all over! Today and tomorrow, the temps. are going to drop a good 30 degrees and a chance of snow! A little, bitty chance, but I'll take it!LOL Quoting: Texan Buckeye Same here! We are supposed to have wet snow on Sunday with no accumulation! Hope you are doing well! Christmas parade sounds like a lot of fun! |

It's really small, about 10 floats, but they're all lit with Christmas lights and it's really pretty. Santa shows up on the fire truck and all the school kids sing carols at the town gazebo. It's a nice, little piece of Norman Rockwell that still survives. I like it. If the pics the paper took are any good, I'll see if I can link them this weekend. |

It's a 5 foot noble and we got the lights on but that is probably it for today. Dug all the Christmas stuff out of the rafters in the garage. No small feat there, the garage is really small and crammed full of crap. Maybe I can get going on the shopping early this week. Quoting: MamaHasAwakened She should be visiting us soon! Glad to hear it. On another note, anyone who has an I phone, I have this app called sky walk, its free, and once you load it, you just point your phone in the sky, or to the ground and it shows where the stars, plantets, and constallations are, its very cool right now because you can see the alignment of the planets beginning. You cant see them all on one screen cause some like the moon, is in the southern hemi at the moment so you have to point your phone to the ground to see it. You get the point. There are many planets very close to being in the straight line now. Its pretty cool Neptune, pluto, mars, mercury, venus, the sun, saturn |

I cant imagine those parents feelings right now, and what first popped into my head was how horrible it will be for them to go home and see Christmas gifts that they carefully purchased for their child that wont ever recieve them. I know that sounds like a strange first thought, but that is what it was, and how this terrible tragedy will effect them for so many Christmas' to come. For the life of me I dont understand why someone could do harm to a perfect stranger, much less a child. I know he had high functioning autism, but so did the guy on American Idol a yr or two ago. Such a sad, sad, day. |

Such a sad, sad, day. You have no idea how much I look forward to this thread. You are a bright spot in what can be a really dismal world. I cannot imagine how those parents would feel. I'm sure it's as bad as the worst nightmare imaginable. As for the shooter, his family members must be living in a turmoil right about now. They will wonder what they could have done to prevent a tragedy. The sad answer is, probably not much if you believe everything the psych doctors tell you. If he was on medication it was obviously the wrong one and went sideways, or he just stop taking them cold turkey. My youngest daughter was on serious psych meds at 15 years old (seroquel). She took them for a bit, about 6 months or so, then looked them up and studied them and said no thank you. We looked at her research and said, ok no more of these meds but you have to step down. We did it with a plan and have found fish oil and vitamins/minerals work better for her. Psych meds are scary, and they are not always the right answer. The human brain is a complicated thing. One size does not fit all when it comes to treating these issues. I am so glad we were able to find the right answer for her. In our case it was green super food juice, the stuff that looks like pond scum, a good multi vitamin, and fish oil. Texan Buckeye User ID: 1533753 United States 12/15/2012 08:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hi, everyone. We went to my daughter's to visit for a day and intercept youngest son. School's out for Christmas. We went to Arlington's German Christmas Market and had lunch with the amazing Em and her mom! It rained until we bought an umbrella. Just as we were leaving the market, daughter got a txt from my sil. He told her about the shooting. It turns out he went to college with one of the sisters of the shooter. He's devasted and was glued to the news when we got back. Daughter and sil both are getting worried about sending Em to school in a couple of years. So are we. He tried to txt her, but got a thanks for thinking about us, but we have no comment kind of answer. He's really worried about her. She lives down here. It's even more real when you someone connected to it. I'm so glad you all are here too. It's such a blessing to have you all here. |
flavapor User ID: 964647 United States 12/15/2012 11:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | TB I am sure she is devastated and on some level embarrassed, although she has no reason to be. That is probably why her answer was so short and sweet. It is horrible to lose your mother, but to have to deal with the fact that your brother was responsible intentionally is really just to much for me to wrap my head around, so I feel for your sil's friend. That was the topic of conversation tonight at dinner with my sis and brother inlaw. We were talking about mandatory lockdowns at schools and how the middle and HS's here have that and I am against it. They look like prisons and my thought is that if a kid was trying to get away they couldnt. I know they do it for truency (sp??) here but if some kid brought a gun or knife to school and other students were trying to flee, they would be trapped in the schoool. The only way out is thru the admin office. It is a shit shame that we have to worry when we send our babies off to school, what is this world coming to! Old Guard, the smoothy sounds great, whats in your homemade remedy?? |

flavapor User ID: 964647 United States 12/17/2012 10:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That is sad but true. Our society seems to be reactive instead of proactive. Remember the movie where Danny Divito was forced to live in one of his shithole bldgs for a month. (he was a slumlord)?? Well all the politicians should have to live on 30k for a year and walk in the peoples shoes before being able to take their seats in govt. Maybe then they could see all of the govt waste and abuse and why we have no money for important stuff. Maybe then we could free up some money and get bills passed to prevent people from taking their kids to the ER cause they dont want to pay for a Dr visit and stiff the hospital for a 1200 ear infection that we the taxpayers pay for. Or the guy who needs an ingrown toenail cut out and goes to ER to do the same! Both of those were actual cases last time I was at the ER with my son last year and it was mid day on a weekday! I dont mind helping the needy, but since when did the moochers become the needy. As a property mgr you wouldnt believe the shit I hear about and come accross. People trying to pay rent with their food stamp cc cause they get way more than they use, so they trade it for stuff. They take people grocery shopping and pay for the stuff and get the value of the groceries in cash from the people less 10%, which they then go buy beer or take the wife out for a nice dinner and movie. Sorry but that just pisses me off. |

It boggles my mind that as a country, we have allowed this to become "normal". Exactly. If every person who got a low rate student loan as a medical student, nurse, radiology etc..was required to put in some time at a medical cntr for those who are not insured to either pay on a sliding scale or pay nothing, we could use some of those bldgs that our govt now owns due to foreclosures, retrofit them and save millions for taxpayers. Just like a surgery center will do ENT on mondays, gastro stuff on tuesdays, etc.. they could do the same and give back to the community and have a lower rate loan or some of the loan forgiven, its not like they pay them off anyway, we the taxpayers get stiffed ALOT on student loans, I know, I run credit on potential tenants. They should be required to do so or the license to practice is suspended. Not saying like for a year every day, more like for a year once a week. All the money saved could go to a more proactive medical community and focus on keeping people healthy instead of waiting until they are sick. In addition, Obamacare wouldnt be needed and companies would start hiring again. |
