Did you ever have a stretch of time when you just wanted to curl up in bed and hide under the covers? We're having that now. It's funny, the stuff that was bugging me before is SO trivial now.

I talked to my oldest son yesterday. He and his wife are expecting our 2nd granddaughter in about 6 weeks. Last week, dil had a couple of headaches. I told my son to keep an eye on them and to call the dr. if they got worse or more often. Well, she had her appt. on Wednesday and the dr. was out with an emergency at the hospital, but the nurse put dil on bed rest and gave her some instructions, with another appt. today. The dr. told her that she MIGHT have pre-eclampsia, but they would know more after the blood and urine tests and to come back on Monday. He put her on bed rest again until then. They put a rush on the lab work and called dil right away. She wasn't even home from the appt. yet. She DOES have pre-eclampsia and has to stay in bed until the baby comes. She wasn't planning on taking off of work this early, but it will work out. She still has to go back to the dr. on Monday.

As serious as all of this is, I really need you guys to tell me I'm being silly. The rest of the story, I haven't reminded my family of. I lost my first son 33 years ago next month. I had pre-eclampsia and placenta previa. I'm feeling very superstitious right now, but I don't want to tell anyone here (at home) about it. Talking to my son, the last 2 days, I'm worried. He's so excited about having a baby, he'll be a wonderful father. He's a middle kid like I am and he keeps things to himself, like I do. I hear in his voice that he's SO lost as to what to do and how to handle it. I've told him all the info I have and all the right "mom" things, so he's ok so far. We picked up a ton of stuff last night, in case dil has to deliver early. Her shower isn't until the first Saturday of March. I don't know now if it will even happen, now that she won't be able to go. That's another doom story that I won't go in to!

Please guys, I need you all to tell me I'm being silly. I know she has a very good dr. I had crap Army docs. They caught her's right away, my dr.'s never did. My next dr. told me. I know medicine is better now. It just feels like I'm re-living a nightmare. I'm so thankful for you all, 'cause I really can't talk about this with anyone else. I can't spread more fear than we all already have. How do I stay hopeful?

Yes when things like that happen to us, we can not help feel fearful for the ones we love when they get into the same situation. It is normal to feel that way. BUT, you said it yourself, she has a good dr. and they caught it in time. Technology is so much better, quicker, and faster these days too!
You have to just picture in your mind, your son holding his brand new baby over and over.
You are not being silly...it is just the pain you know...that you do not want your son and dil to ever go through!

I totally understand where your coming from, I lost my second child to placenta previa too.

But... I will say, that I went to the Dr, said I had a bad cough and that I felt like I was going to cough that baby out. They dismissed me, told me medications werent safe for the baby at that point and to deal with it pretty much, 3 days later I ended up in the hospital 8 weeks before I should have, the rest is history.

My point, both of us had way less available to us in the form of medical treatments and diagnostic tools than they do now.

I think if you stress that the bedrest is important without scaring them everything will be fine, and no your not nuts, its perfectly understandable how your feeling, just dont let on to them. We are here to be your sounding board so you just feel free to blab away about it.

I finally got my bday gift today, which was to get my permanent eyeliner on my eyes. I just got a very fine line that is un noticable, just cause my eyes just dont pop anymore like they used to and I hate makeup.

How is OG doing, does anyone know. Havent heard from her in a long time.

You are not being silly, you are concerned. They say "Time Heals All Wounds", but that is not correct in itself. Time heals the wound but leaves a scar. Sometimes the scar starts to hurt again later. This is what is happening with you. The earlier diagnosis and improvements in medicine will definitely help your son and daughter in law. I would tell you not to worry, but I know that as a parent you will. It's good that you are all preparing for an early delivery. As for the shower, even if you have to do it after the baby has come it will still be a wonderful day. Odds are things will be ok in the end with a baby that is loved by all. Hugs to you my friend!

We've all had those days of wanting to curl up and never come out from under the covers. I'm sorry about your baby son and know the heartache. Enough of a heartache to hope that no one ever endures it, and opens the pain again when you worry about someone else having even a slight chance of going through it. Because of that, I can't tell you you're silly. But some facts might help ease your mind.

Pre eclampsia affects 5 to 8 percent of all births in the United States. Most of them deliver healthy babies.

Drs. can give blood pressure meds to the Mom, and steroids to help the maturation of the baby's lungs.

If she's 6 weeks from due date, she is about 32 weeks now? So the baby is probably approx. 17 inches long and weighing about 4 lbs.?

From now on, half the weight she gains will go directly to the baby. In 3 weeks the baby will probably be at least 5 lbs.

In 2005 .gov studies reported preliminary findings that vitamin E and C supplementation were encouraging and suggested larger clinical trials. Haven't kept up to date to know whether or not that happened, and you know I never suggest any herbs or any other treatment for a pregnant woman, but it would make sense to me that orange juice, for example, would provide the C without supplementing.

C is mostly in fruits, and E is in seeds, nuts, vegetables, fruit, fish, etc.

During pregnancy, women sometimes avoid orange juice because of the acid and nausea it can cause. The study makes sense from the perspective that the things listed aren't things that many pregnant women want.

It's more important than ever that she includes those healthy foods in her diet and drinks plenty of good fresh water..unless of course her Dr. has advised restricting water. Flavoring the water with a squeeze of lemon and crushed ice might encourage her to drink more and give a little flavor. Lemon has the added benefit of being a natural salt substitute, and her salt is probably being restricted. So, two birds with one stone. It's more important than ever that she has proper nutrition.

I read to him when pregnant. Dr. Seuss books and any rhyming books. To this day I can recite from memory Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb.

I'd read books while rubbing or patting my stomach, like you'd comfort a baby you were holding in your arms. After a while, I noticed that when that before I got the
"hand, hand fingers thumb, dum diddly dum diddly dum dum dum," spoken, he'd start moving and kicking and did it the entire time of the story.

Shortly after he was born, I cuddled him and started the book from memory. Wiggling, moving, the same as he did during pregnancy, and each time afterward.Nothing will convince me that he didn't hear and love the story, and probably even the comforting, even if there was some flab and water between us. 8)

Maybe it comforted me as much as it did him. It created a bond that will last forever. Maybe dil will want to follow up on my hypothesis and use her unborn child for a guinea pig. If she does, please share he results. In addition to comforting the baby, it will be good for her. She'll learn real early that she's soon going to be taking a back seat to having her needs met, and will do so cheerfully while she's looking into the eyes of love from her healthy little baby.

You all are the very best friends. I tried for quite awhile to answer you, while I was doing some laundry, but I couldn't find any words. I still don't have enough, but I truly love you all and I'm so blessed to have such good friends.

Well..... I got my eyelash line (where you would put eyeliner) tatoo'ed. Since I turned 50 my eyes just dont pop like they used to, so I gave them some pop.

I would call that preserving my youth

Update on dil and baby...dil's bp is down and so is her protein count. She had a non-stress test today and will keep having them twice a week. Our son thinks baby will come about March 5th. Idk. I keep telling him, the longer they can wait, the better for baby. Until it isn't. Dil's due date is Apr. 5th. If baby comes Mar. 5th-ish, she and her cousin will be sharing birthdays! Yikes! That will be fun...NOT. So, it looks like I have a little more time to get the crocheted blankets finished. I have some fleece ones to do, too. At least those won't take much time to do.

It is a mess here in the STL!!! They said freezing rain the rest of the afternoon, but the snowfall continues!

I knew we would get a good snow since the groundhog did not see his shadow! LOL

I was so thrilled today was a snow day and no school. Though I did not envision the little extra bodies in my house with wet snow clothes X 6!!!!

Corned Beef goes on sale tomorrow. I have 24 quart jars all ready and waiting to be stuffed with yummyness.
$1.69 a lb is the lowest price i have found so far.
Wish i could do more but i am on the hunt for new jars.

I am having fun today dehydrating kale and spinach in my dehydrator. I am trying to dehydrate a bunch of veggies, so I can store them to make soups/stews later. I also find it great to whip up into smoothies for the kids with out them knowing it! I find it much better this way, then trying to use my blender, since I don't have a decent one that purees greens very good.

Good luck with the dehydrating. I still have a bunch of stuff from 2 yrs ago that I put in canning jars. I made peppers, onions, celery and herbs and I use it as seasoning in my sauces and gravies. I have a jar and a half left and then I have to make another big batch

Has anyone heard from tinygreen, or know how to get hold of her??
