if it was at 80 mph at 11 pm...i thimk it should be down to like 73 now and heading to under 60 by the time it hits NY at best. Am i totally wrong about this?...I am thinking it would be closer to 50 sustained winds anyway nevermind gusts at the max.
 Quoting: fred 1524053

My WeatherBug on my desktop is showing gusts to only 21mph right now. The bad stuff hasn't gotten here yet. That's reserved for the early morning hours and late morning on Sunday.

There is however massive amounts of water falling now with massive flooding everywhere.

My WeatherBug just chirped a warning sound. Let me go read it...

Who stole my last brew?...anyway things are pretty much the same on long lisland as an hour ago. Kind of loooking forward to a s storm here actually. I know in the morning it will be the same old bs...the media talkes about one story all day long maybe for a week and gives no information on anything of real meanance in this world. Het snookie took a dump...oh did we forget to mention that we just slaughtered 100,000 innocent people..ok sorry about that.

Op, I am certain that the millions of people without power and those who suffered tornado and flooding damage would beg to differ with you. Simply because Irene’s winds will not be extreme does not mean that the damage will not be extreme and crippling.

Yes I agree, and did say that Irene was still a dangerous storm. Just not as bad as the powers that be would have everyone believe.
 Quoting: WatchmenOnTheWall

Predicting weather is an inexact science and if you look back to Hurricane Katrina, the weather reports clearly stated it would be a powerful hurricane yet few listened. When reality struck fingers pointed towards President Bush instead of the governor of Mississippi failure to take New Jersey Governor Chris Christie stance an exclaiming, “Get the hell off the Beach”.

Here in Staten Island where I live, mayor Bloomberg oredered mandatory evacuations on all flood zones. That's why everyone is hunkered down at my home. Better to be safe than sorry!
 Quoting: WatchmenOnTheWall

I remember how homes in Staten Island could be flooded by heavy rains many years ago, modest surges created problems, and if you stayed, hopefully you are well inland. I currently live in the Mid Hudson region of New York where rain and even slight winds will be problematic concerning flooding and power outages.

Prior to New York, we lived in New Mexico where high winds were a daily occurrence much of the year but heavy rains meant flash floods not to be trifled with. When I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath and we had heavy rains I watched water seep up from the floor, which was disconcerting working in a building filled with electronics and computers.

Each area has their own weather weaknesses and it is best to err on the side of caution instead ignoring what could happen. The worst has not hit New York yet and only time will tell how bad it will be and we will see what happens through the night and tomorrow morning.

i am going outside to enjoy the weather..in the morning i can listen to theem tell me on tv how they were looking after my best interests. Maybe they will thank me for buying batteries ...flashlight, milk and water..stopping by my local home repair box store to fasten my deck etc. A great stimulas to the econaomy. Now if they would only stop importing crap from china and put americans back to work things will be ok. But that wont happen in my lifetime. Its tv from now on. I know how i sound as i have had a few to many. But you know the media hyped this storm especially in my area...and its pretty much a diversion from what is going on in this world. Give me all the relevent information i need in a minute not 24 hours. Give me the rest as well. They dont do that. We have no news anymore in this country. Its a complete blackout in case anybody has not noticed. Its quite upsetting. i dont want to ruin this thread so lets just say that as of 12:15 i basically have nothing going on here on long island as far as weather is concerned.

Thats true actually. If you want to find out what is really happening in this world weather it be a storm or anything you are better off looking on the net. Unfortunately...you know you cant believe the news on tv and so u have to try to find the truth on the net. which is a big problem as well. But that said...atleast it is possible to find the truth on the net. You will never here the truth on tv or anything of real importance of all for that matter. That is the shame of this country. Its just not america anymore. Unfortunately ...but i think most people who have a brain realise that at this point.

I have my scanner radio on, and it's not too busy at the moment, but I'm sure it will be later.

I'm listening to local police, fire, and EMS. Also listening to citywide on all 3. Con edison as well. Power lines down in Staten Island. Some fire brodcasts, and sirens heard.

I also have all the bridges and tunnels, and the Staten island Ferry, but they're all shut down. Also all airports are down as well.

Police cars and vans up and down my street. Fire engines everywhere outside... non stop! WOW... Crazy shit. Winds really picking up now! Pretty scary!

Fire engines down my street now. I'm expecting power to go down sometime soon. You'll know if I stop posting because I'm gonna stay up all night. Already drinking massive amounts of coffee to stay awake.

Lmao at hype of hurricane Irene...
I'm a hurricane katrina survivor.I'm witness to what happen here after katrina hit .I seen the new Orleans police loot cars,Walmart, and pawn shops.
I seen the new orleans police shoot looters with roit bullets.
Sometimes they used real bullets to shoot looters.
President bush, fema, mayor and gov of louisiana dropped the ball here after katrina.
