Normally when hurricanes hit (ie shared common memory of hurricanes) they strike land and move inward and die. From a central planning perspective this is easy to deal with. So far its weak but has the capibility in my personal opinion to do extensive damage to the power grid of 2 regions, halt trucking due to thousands of miles of obstructed roads, and displacement of millions, causing breakdown of the just-in-time delivery systems of several regions. Ignorance of how fragile and overcomplexified these systems are is the basis for this arrogance and normalacy bias.

That is the real danger here. What will the inhabitants of the largest population centers this side of the mississippi do when its two weeks without power/water. What will the military/banking/terror industrial complex do to respond? So take your low wind speed ratings and outmoded thinking and watch your battery tv.

Regardless of the dud status,once all that salt water gets in the subway its history.Also all the power is under ground and once salt water invades those the power grid system is fried.So its going to be a long time before things can be repaired and back to halfway normal.No power means no anything

I think they already have contingency plans for that. They may have some problems, but most systems will be up and running within a day or two.

OP, it seems the reports are consistent with weakening and failed leadership in overreacting to computer models. However, those reporting seem like they are still very concerned yet the reports they read on the air give us the sense that it will be a weakened event. Can a hurricane stall over D.C.? Dutchsinse reported earlier today that there were distinctive HAARP signatures on radar in the D.C. area. I believe this storm is under artificial control. Everyone should pay very close attention to what it does. Hurricanes are unpredictable, regardless of computer tracks.

I'm curious, was there this much discussion and preparation prior to Katrina? The news we got on this side side of the world is that no one lifted a finger before, during AND after katrina so it's strange to see all this attention for a less devastating event. Is it because Katrina hit an area of low interest to the American public?
