| Anonymous Coward User ID: 21661384  India08/10/2012 07:38 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | well happiness is just a term. our basic objective of life is to satisfy ourselves. happiness is the most convenient way of measuring our level of satisfaction. its not literal happiness that we want but the figurative one. the term literal is applied in satisfaction. the other day my friend said he just loves it when his body aches after working out, now its the pain that satisfies him. so the question "why do you want to be happy?" is incomplete, the question should be "why do you want to be satisfied?" the fact that satisfaction has many forms, proves that happiness is only the most accepted means of satisfaction. so the answer to the question "why do we want to be satisfied?" is simple, we live because we crave to satisfy ourselves. once this need of satisfying oneself is accomplished or vanished then the purpose of living is no longer necessary. |

I do not know why we seek happiness. It's like happiness was what we were programmed to seek, but why? Why did our creator make us seekers of pleasure, comfort, and satisfaction? Did he or she want us to be happy in preparation for what death has in store for us? Maybe we want to be happy because it's in our nature. And suppose someone does find a way for us to live over 2000 years. Then people wouldn't have to worry about getting old for a while. But some people would get tired of life long before they reach 200, and some people won't get bored, like the simpler, less thoughtful, more ignorant people...But maybe one day those people would realize that there's only so much enjoyment you can get out of life. People tend to believe that the purpose of life is to love. And because love brings us happiness, one might say that the purpose of life is to obtain happiness. Why though....? Obviously no one wants to be sad, depressed, and hateful. We're not inclined to be those things (at least I hope not). Maybe the truth is that life really is meaningless. But our creator would rather we not know that. Maybe our creator cares deeply about our happiness and knows that the truth about life would devastate us and make us not want to live. I want to know the truth about why we live, though. The whole truth. I keep feeling like our creator just dumped us here and invisibly watches us like we're some kind of experiment. |

Evidence is this thread. So to carry around all the crap is what some people really expect another person to do in the world, and if everyone did that, there would be no need to have any humans exist in this Universe. This is because I have been fed more crap probably because I am older than you, and humans like to remind others of how much crap they have received in their life already. |

We have been brainwashed into believing that we need "stuff" to attain those states. Nothing could be further from the truth. The more material things that one has, the more energy is required and wasted trying to hold onto these things. It's a vicious circle that cannot be won, yet we all long for it. Why? Brainwashing, plain and simple. It's no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. |

And living with heart means to care more for the happiness of others than that of yourself. Maybe I've gotten too used to living with lots of self-hate, but I'm sure that self-indulgence ins't the case, as some seem to help others just to feel better themselves, like donating to charity just to ease their own consciences. So in short, I think it's more about giving than taking, happiness seems more like a consumer commodity while it's more like a mentality even in the most darkest of times. But he talks about the word 'happy' and how we don't have many words in English expressing the varying degrees of it. It's like either all or nothing. Unlike feelings of sadness - there are many different words to describe that state of mind. Anyway . . . it's easier to achieve happiness if you don't have unrealistic expectations. :dontworry: |

Even GLP no longer does much for me and I'm not sure what I bother (habit I guess). I sometimes wish I was like other people who can still find simple pleasure such as who was picked in the NFL draft or what's on what reality tv show. I know a lot of you don't like being around other people, but I find that I'm most satisfied and happy when I'm doing work for others. |
