You sold candy bars to neighbors? What were you told to say the funds were for, the Shiner's Hospital?

Re: Are Job's Daughter's considered Freemasons?
Hello,

Well you seem to have gotten a lot of vague answers - as a Majority member of Jobs Daughters, Rainbow and a current member of Eastern Star, and daughter of a Mason - let me set you straight a bit;

Jobs Daughters & Rainbow Girls are both youth orders for girls.
Demolay is a youth order for the boys.
Eastern Star is a women's group.
All are under the guiding umbrella of Freemasonry.

Shriners, Royal Arch and Scottish Rite are all men-only groups that are for Freemasons who have gone through all the degrees (think similar to boy scouts learning things - that's as close as I can think)and join these extra groups.

A Freemason, Demolay or Rainbow girl can join these orders without any Masonic relation.

A girl can only join Jobs and a woman can only join Eastern Star if she has some Masonic Relation - father, grandfather, uncle, brother, husband, etc.

The youth orders are all for youth ages 11-20/10-21.

Jobs Daughters focuses on lessons taught from the book for Job.
Rainbow Girls focuses on lessons taught from Gensis (Noahs Ark, Rainbow of promise, etc).
Eastern Star focuses on lessons taught from great women of the Bible (Ruth, Esther, etc).

I don't know much about what Demolay or Masons, etc focus on since I'm not a man - but it's similar. However, being a Jobs daughter does not make you a Mason - as a woman can never be a Mason - but you were in the Freemasonry "Family" so to speak. Also, since I doubt you aged out since you didn't seem to go, you are no longer in the order or considered a majority member, but you would still be eligible to join Eastern Star.

The lessons are not specific to any religion - the only requirement in the group is a belief in supreme creator and we have had members that are Christian, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, etc. The lessons instead focus more on themes of giving Charity, being a part of your community, treating your parents with respect, being a good friend, honoring your country, so on and so forth.

Jobs daughters are the only group that has a non-formal type of wear in that they wear Grecian robes.

Jobs, Rainbow and Demolay all basically teach youth leadership skills and have fun and charity events.

I hope this helps you understand a bit about the orders.

PS, your candy bar sales were likely either;

1) to help with the budget of your bethal (group).
2) to raise funds to donate to a charity

Most groups have a specific charity they sponsor for a year, chosen by the current "president" so to speak. Shriners always support the Shriners hospital, a hospital which gives free medical care to kids who cannot afford it.
