I was actually scared by it. It is actually upsetting, and depressing. One of the people monitoring the springs said that archaeological evidence suggests the springs have been flowing continually for 16,000 years, so if it dries up at this point, it is SERIOUS DOOM for the rapidly growing central Texas population. |

I only have a few weeks worth of food, I pick up extra cans when I get groceries, and have rice and beans, and several containers of water. I think if something like this happened and progressed to a shortage of water, I would flee back home to family in Michigan, with a well.. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1525961 United States 08/29/2011 06:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Tis true, and scary as hell. I live in Austin as well and have heard several times on the news on the radio that the drought is expected to last through the winter and into next summer. I don't know how they can know such a thing, but that is the prediction. Also, there are at least 12 Texas towns that are due to run out of water within the next 90 days (heard that on the news tonight). Some towns have already had to truck bottled water in for residents to drink. Obviously, that is not sustainable. And, if this drought keeps up, I could see a mass exodus from Texas. It's really scary - no joke. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 848576 United States 08/29/2011 07:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There's just way too many people here, dependent on the Edwards and Trinity Aquifer. It's tragic, because this is one of the few places in the country where the economy is still doing pretty good...and the water is very likely to dry up. Then water will be more precious than gasoline...(try telling that to the Chinese financed frackers of the newly discovered oil fields on the southwest edge of the aquifer.) Before they built all the dams, there were NO LAKES in Texas. Quoting: meanderer I tried growing a garden this year, and all I got was a handful of tomatoes, my tomato plants are pretty much cooked.
