Anonymous Coward User ID: 961432 United States 08/29/2011 10:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Pentagon would rather pay $500/month in rent plus the late fees. Using borrowed money, of course. You are forgetting the army of bureaucrats that fill out all the logistical paperwork for the procurement of said boxes. In fact I would argue it's not the cost of the box that's important, it's the 6 paper pushers necessary to get the box, deliver it, keep it, use it, and then return it late and another to process the late fees. |

Or any number of other possibilities, including nothing more than government wasting money by not renewing a lease. |

GeekOfTheWeek User ID: 1383040 United States 08/29/2011 12:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From what I've learned about these, it IS cheaper to pay the fees for them or buy them, than it is to send them back to the country of origin... So they pay a LOT, but it's cheaper that way. I know some may not see this nor understand it, but it's a fact. It would cost about 6500.00 to send back an empty 5000.00 container. So that's why they do it. It IS cheaper to send them back if they are full, because the cost is spread out with the contents. But sending them empty is VERY expensive. I love physics. It bonds us eternally, it's what makes our computers work, it's what's in my morning cup of coffee, it's the thing that keeps the universe from vanishing due to lack of belief... |

ceawaves User ID: 789642 United States 08/29/2011 04:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | yep... that's a lot of late fee charges.. And why would the owners of the containers not auction the contents off? what they would do normally.. be interesting to find out who owns the storage containers..sounds like a money laundering scam.
