There is some legitimate but still unconfirmed speculation that during times when our solar system passes through such "fluff" our heliosphere is compressed to a radius of less than 1 AU that our planet is exposed to a much higher than normal concentration of cosmic rays, resulting in increased cloud formation and dramatic climate changes. The heliosphere is nowhere near being compressed to a 1 AU radius however, these changes take place over thousands of years and pose no threat to us, our children, or our children's children. In summation, it's nothing to worry about on a human timescale.
Quoting: Astromut I would love to read more about the "fluff" and compressed heliosphere. Can you please put some links to validate yours statements? Quoting: tmorais [ link to science.nasa.gov] Increased cosmic rays due to heliosphere compression to a radius much closer to the earth would not be good for us: [ link to www.universetoday.com] Fortunately, these are changes that take place over thousands of years, we're in no danger. Quoting: Astromut how do YOU know it hasn't already been happening for thousands of years? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1525382 This is a good argument. Care to elaborate?
