Re: BREAKING: Yellowstone hiker was killed by bear
Wow-- i just got back from Yellowstone and the whole place smelled like SULPHUR....

.....we took a lot of walks there and may daughter thought I was stupid for worrying about bears while she hiked on a trail alone... I wasn't able to hike due to the altitude there-- 8,000 feet...

Re: BREAKING: Yellowstone hiker was killed by bear
This always works for me. Say in a firm voice "Bad bear, no biting". Works on rattlesnakes too.......don't say "bear" though, say "rattlesnake". Snakes may be deaf, but they appear well able to read lips, which is strange because they don't have any.

Re: BREAKING: Yellowstone hiker was killed by bear
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) -- A grizzly bear killed a Michigan man whose body was found by hikers last week in Yellowstone National Park, officials said Monday.

The victim was identified Monday as John Wallace of Chassell, Mich.

Wallace's body was discovered along a trail about five miles from the nearest trailhead. Results of an autopsy concluded that he died as a result of traumatic injuries from a bear attack.

It is the second time a visitor to the park has been killed by a bear this year.

Re: BREAKING: Yellowstone hiker was killed by bear
I just don't understand why this is news!

Bears eat people.

People go into areas where bears live.
Hmmmmmmmmm.

Won't be the last time it happens. But it will be like the first time it has happened, again, the next time.

Re: BREAKING: Yellowstone hiker was killed by bear
Never go hiking in bear, mountain lion, or coyote territory alone.

If you do. Don't venture far in to the woods.

I get nervous in bear country if I am not near a vehicle.

I was hiking in Utah. Saw some animal poop I couldn't identify.

I was like "That's it. I'm turning back"
